Inquisition in Kill Team?

The Woodsman

Hey all, looking at getting into Kill Team as an excuse to convert and paint up an Inquisitorial warband. So I was wondering if it is possible at all to play an Inquisitor and his or henchmen in Kill Team? Cheers!

There are things you can do if you use a "counts as" approach - the Astra Militarum work well for this (commissar/officer to represent an Inquisitor and Astra Militarum/Tempestus Scions to represent the entourage).

In my opinion, the best way to represent an Inquisitor and his/her retinue is to use the Elucidian Starstriders. You might also mix in some of the models from Blackstone Fortress/Combat Arena. The rules for all of these models can be found in the Kill Team Annual 2019 (you'll need the Rogue Trader expansion for Kill Team to get the Elucidian Starstrider minis, the Blackstone Fortress main box to get other models, and one of the Blackstone Fortress expansions or Combat Arena to get the Combat Arena minis).

The main drawback with trying to use Inquisitors/Rogue Traders is that they are COMMANDERs, so you'll also need the Commanders expansion if you want to use those character models.

If you and your group are open to homegrown rules, there are rules for both the Inquisition and Rogue Traders in our Downloads section. There are two versions of each. The first version is relatively mild, probably close to what GW might give us if they ever give us official rules for these factions. There are also "unchained" versions of each faction's rules, and these are much more divergent, allowing considerable customization options and models that probably won't be included in hypothetical official rules (but firmly based on previous games and official lore).

Inquisition: Standard/Unchained

Rogue Traders: Standard/Unchained

These rules are currently under revision, bringing the Adeptus Astartes in line with the changes in Pariah Nexus (e.g., Astartes chainswords, assault intercessors). If you're not including the ADEPTUS ASTARTES as your CHAMBER MILITANT choices, though, you'll be fine.

Inquisitor Eisenhorn is also a pretty good Commander?

Of the teams he can join, I'd consider AdMech for building a counts-as Retinue because of the variety of troop types they have available?

You can find his rules here.

The good thing about most of the INQUISITOR and ROGUE TRADER options (Eisenhorn, Neyam Shai Murad, and Janus Draik) is that they have multiple Faction Keywords, including ADEPTA SORORITAS, ADEPTUS ASTARTES, ASTRA MILITARUM, and ADEPTUS MECHANICUS. This allows them to be taken in a kill team/command roster built using any of those factions. The only exception is Elucia Vhane, who only has the ELUCIDIAN STARSTRIDERS keyword, limiting her use. Realistically, all three of the ROGUE TRADERs are very similar.

The main drawback with both the INQUISITOR and ROGUE TRADER characters, however, is that they are COMMANDERS so you're not likely to be using them in every game.
