Brother Orphiel

Chapter of Origin: [REDACTED]

Specialism: Tactical Marine

Character Sheet: TBC

Appearance:

Young for an Astartes with his experience, Orphiel carries only a few scars, notably the ones imparted by the Fiend of Bela'Kadron, which left its mark across his right eye, his lips and chin, and his left ear.  The cut to his mouth pulls at the left corner, giving him a mocking look that evaporates with a smile - which occasionally hovers about his face.  Of average height for an Astartes, out of plate, he is a little on the lean side.  Clean shaven, his blond hair is cropped short.

He wears a thick, hooded robe of almost black-green ballistic cloth, the hem embroidered with the repeating motif of a pair of simple, crossed keys.  Whilst offering no real protection other than from abrasion to his armour, it affords him the luxury of going about with cowl raised, hiding his steel blue eyes in the depths of shadow.  Whilst it is no challenge for other Astartes to penetrate this thin veneer of anonymity, it has proven very effective in the intimidation of mortals finding themselves on the receiving end of his interrogation methods.

Personality:

Orphiel appears to accept positions and duties he is given, obeying orders from his superiors, but always armed with a remark to offset the nature of the tasks.  Not afraid to get his hands dirty, he will see things through, with professionalism and a twist of gallows humour.  Patient and incisive, when not about his business, or maintaining his equipment, he takes the opportunity to read through his worn and well-thumbed tomes.

Free of any insidious notion of ‘conscript syndrome’, he is a firm believer that even though he pulls the trigger, it is the one who sent him that bears the greater burden of sin, or that the perpetrator merely brought it on themselves.  Before an action, he ritually cleanses his hands, so that he may go forth unburdened by guilt or doubt.

"Who is the real killer?  The one who places the knife on the table?  Or the one who stabs the victim?  Perhaps, in truth, it is the one who sends the victim to the appointment."

-Orphiel 'The Seeker'.

Deployments:

Operation Ganymede:

During 899.M41, during the Uprising of [REDACTED], Orphiel distinguished himself when he prevented the Cogitator Tenebrus from falling into the hands of monstrously deluded heretics from the warband of [REDACTED].  Grievously wounded in combat with the brutish leader [REDACTED], his Mk VII warplate destroyed by a [REDACTED], he held the Library of Probity for several hours against wave after wave of the shadow-haunted recreants determined to capture it.

For his bravery and dedication to the Chapter and his genetic lineage, he was gifted with a replacement suit of Mk IV warplate from the vaults of [REDACTED].

The Prison Colonies of Iridion Cygnus:

Five different orbital habitats above an agri-world, each installation is given over to penal facilities ranging in security from Redempta to Ultima Perfidio.  Orphiel spent time in each facility interviewing and interrogating prisoners of all kinds, studying moral crime.  He was given leave to implement experimental techniques during these visits.

Rendezvous with a Renegade – Parley on the Crag, home fortress of the Iron Gods:

Orphiel was selected as a bodyguard for Captain Admiel in his dialogue with Talek Varn, commander of the Renegade Iron Gods Space Marines aboard their asteroid base, The Crag.  Equipped with a storm bolter, he was chosen for his work with criminals on Iridion Cygnus.  His embellished veteran’s armour was destroyed in Operation Ganymede.

These happenstances made him the perfect choice to be stationed with the Iron Gods as part of an agreement serving a higher cause, his new armour masking his original appearance to those on the Crag, and his nature allowing him to survive there.

Weapons and Equipment:

Orphiel's preferred weapon is his Storm Bolter Argo, which has been modified with the addition of a front grip to better control recoil.

Brother Odysseus

L J Koh labinus crop librarian

Odysseus'

Chapter of Origin: [REDACTED]

Specialism: Librarian

Character Sheet: TBD

Appearance:

Gaunt, with long hair and a short unkept beard. Dark black eyes peering from beneath a heavy brow.

Personality:

The ends justify the means, and no end is more greatly justified than survival. Odysseus does not consider himself the villain of this story seeing fair justification in every action and righteous anger and the betrayal of those would would claim to have been once allies. He is confident that the course he has taken will ultimately validate his decisions and that all steps along that path serve only to demonstrate why he must be the one to walk it.

Notes:

No marine nor Chapter may not endure alone, attrition and entropy are constant and conflict is eternal. No opportunity must be left wanting. It is the highest duty to preserve the lifeblood of war, blessed armaments and technology, voidfaring vessels and the stars themselves, or else to deny them to the enemy that they might one day be recovered. To do otherwise is a dereliction, to do less than all which is possible an unforgivable failing.

Weapons and Equipment:

Two Naval Boltguns - the "Dioscuri"

Force Sword - "Hectors Gift"

Combat Knife

3 x Frag Grenades

3 x Krak Grenades

1 x Repair Cement

Svelk

20210419 133423

Chapter of Origin: [REDACTED]

Specialism: Assault Marine

Character Sheet: TBC

Appearance:

When clad in his Power Armour, Svelk is rarely seen without his helmet, only taking it off to consume food, tend to an injury or conduct maintenance. Even then it is never far. He's seems to rarely remove his Power Armour either. On those occasions where his face is visible, it reveals a daunt and ghostly pale visage, with hair shaven close to the skin.

His suit of Power Armour is barely recognisable as Mark VII, looking as if it was blown apart and then put back together again. Numerous fractures and penetration points in the plating can be seen to have been welded shut, then layered over with ceramite sheets and reinforced with bonding studs and adamantium bracing. This presents a patchwork appearance. Despite this, the hand that made these repairs must have been at least somewhat apt, since the plating seems functional and in some regions is even reinforced beyond standard capacity.

Personality:

If one were to focus on Svelk's face, when it's visible that is, they would find little to betray the Astartes' disposition. It seems perpetually frozen in an expression of cold regard. When he does express himself, it often seems to be through body language. Posture, tilting of the head and hand gestures all exaggerated to be just about noticeable even within the bulk of Astartes Power Armour. Since coming to the Iron Gods, his nature in battle has yet to be tested. He has remained quiet, watching those around him, often seeming tense or cautious. He spends at least some of the time patrolling the asteroid station's surface, and practicing jump-pack manoeuvres on the edge of the void.

Notes:

(Elements of this will be updated as the rest of the squad learns more about him.)

Brother-Apothecary Vesalius

Chapter of Origin: [REDACTED]

Specialism: Apothecary

Character Sheet: TBC

Appearance:

Vesalius3

Apothecary Vesalius
Vesalius's suit of Mk VI armor is ancient and shows evidence of having been destroyed and rebuilt at some point in its past. His compatriots will have noted a scarred, corpse-like complexion and all-black eyes; his head is kept shaven save for a swept, black mohican. He has kept his Corvus-pattern helm painted white, and it sports a built-in blister of diagnostor sensors and a helm picter.

Personality:

Vesalius is an efficient and talented apothecary, but driven by great hubris and boundless ambition. Calculating, ruthless and cruel, he keeps these aspects of his personality hidden behind a generally pleasant bedside manner. He takes great pride in his medical abilities, and is a highly skilled chirurgeon. Exactly what drove him into the open arms of Talek Varn has stayed between Vesalius and his new master, but dark rumors abound of gene seed experiments, torture and worse.

History:

Once considered a promising and valued asset to his parent chapter, Vesalius was cast out for what he saw as his brilliance, but his brothers regarded as reckless experimentation. Having no interest in drawing the ire of the inquisition, the chapter leadership exiled him to the Deathwatch so he might learn to temper his worst impulses or otherwise carry out the remainder of his time amongst the living in penitent servitude.

He spent many months traveling on a series of transport ships from system to system, trading his skills for safe passage while trying to maintain a low profile. However, he eventually came to the attention of the master of the Iron Gods, and was recruited when the grey-clad Astartes boarded his latest vessel. Believing the Iron Gods would be more appreciative of his medical prowess and technical genius, he accepted the invitation to meet with Talek Varn and threw in his lot with the pirates.

Brethren Brahmanda

Chapter of Origin: [REDACTED]
Specialism: Devastator
Character Sheet: TBD

Appearance:
Dark Greyish Skin tone, Sunken Dark Emerald Green Eyes.

Personality:
Brahmanda has learned to be paranoid over his long life. Never one to advance very far in his chapter he has sat on the side lines most of his career. A careful observer of his surroundings, he learned well the ways of siege warfare. But further than that his cold intelligence learned how to pilot and operate most equipment in the inventory. There is steel in his spine for dealing with the horrors and imbalance the galaxy has to offer but more he has become a harbinger of things to come.

Notes:
Abandoned as part of an independent Garrison of his Chapter, Brahmanda had enough, he decided to follow his fore-bearers into figuring out his own path. With the extensive training he had, he knew it was just the matter of time to find a group he would find comfortable working with.

Brother Kai

Cognomen: Stormshroud, The Traveller, The Ghost who Stalks the Stars

Chapter of Origin: [REDACTED]
Specialism: Tactical
Character Sheet: TBD

Appearance:
Few have looked upon the face of the astartes  called Kai and lived to tell of it. Those that have speak of a warrior whose face bears the scars of years of unending conflict. His skin, once the bronze, now faded from years shrouded in war plate. They also speak of a scar covering half his face, the ruined flesh the work of cruel flame.

Most however only ever see his true face, the cold visage of his Mark VI plate. It’s pockmarked surface a testament to a brutal way of life. Never far from his hand is his most trusted companion, an ancient Umbra pattern Bolter. About his person are various ammo pouches, packs, and grenades. At his hip sits a power blade of unknown, though obviously xenos origin.

He wears a shroud of stormcloth, the rugged material though tattered and stained, offers some protection from the elements. His most striking feature maybe the collection of beads and trinkets that hang from his belt. The broken and burned amulets taken as trophies from his eternal prey, those who fight in the name of the Ecclesiarchy.

Personality:
Gruff and taciturn, Kai is not one for frivolity or swagger. When he speaks his voice conveys his years of experience. Though blunt at times, he is not rude. He does not suffer fools lightly, especially when on mission.

His demeanor however changes when he has his hated foe in his sights, Gone is the quiet warrior and in his place is a dark hunter whose eyes burn with hatred and vengeance.

Brother Decimus

Chapter of Origin: [REDACTED]
Specialism: Devastator
Character Sheet: TBC

Appearance:
A relatively small Astartes, Decimus has faint scars across significant portions of his swarthy skin.  He keeps his hair closely cropped, and has light blue eyes.  Like all but the youngest and oldest Astartes, his age is impossible to determine.

Personality:
Decimus seems distant much of the time, as if he is deep in thought or recalling ancient battles.  Combat seems to focus him to the present, along with any discussion or planning of actions that could take him into conflict with elements of the Inquisition.  He seems relatively generous with the non-astartes that serve the Iron Gods.

Notes:
Decimus arrived at the gates of the Iron Gods Fortress in a suit of modified Mk VII power armour that all paint had been stripped from.  He has never spoken to any, save perhaps Talek Varn, of his past prior to joining the Iron Gods.  It is suspected that Decimus is a new name he has taken, as sometimes takes him a moment longer than it should to acknowledge when called.

Heavy Bolter with backpack feed

Bolt Pistol

3 x Krak Grenades

Brynjarr the Forlorn

Chapter of Origin:  ---

Tactical Marine – Void warfare and boarding specialist

Appearance:

Brynjarr is small for a marine, and out of armour could almost pass as an average human. His skin has a dark grey huge to it. He has short black hair and an equally dark beard that he keeps neatly trimmed so as to ensure that his helmet always fits and no stray hair can compromise the integrity of the seal.

His armour, is hardened and adapted for extended time in vacuum. In Brynjarr’s case the core components are from a MkVIII suit. Whether it is a homage by the chapter artificers to an earlier age, or just a practicality of a shared design, but the adaptation share some visual similarities to the Power Armour from the time that the Emperor walked amongst his sons in less troubled times.

Personality:

As the younger son of fleet Officers , Brynjarr strove hard to live up to the achievements of his siblings. When Brynjarr was selected for initiation into the chapter he felt vindicated and that he had now surpassed his siblings. However during the long hard years that followed the same self doubt and sense of inferiority crept back in for while he survived by force of will alone and graduated to full marine it was by the barest of scraps and the lowest of marks.

In the years since his death he has become a dour individual, prone to solitude. Hope of rejoining his kin has died of starvation long ago, and with it any will or interest in company of others. He is still a competed Marine, but any temporary comradeship with battle brothers dose not survive once the battle has been lost or won.

History:

The Death of Brynjarr

While the chapter forces were on a joint patrol with Imperial Navy fleets they caught traces of an Ork armada. The combined flee gave chase and the resultant running battle took several months, as the humans could never quite catch the main Ork fleet, only ever outliers and vanguard.

Eventually a full fleet on fleet battle in the Phainon system saw the majority of the Ork defeated and scattered. However not before a flanking Ork force that had used the systems gas giant to sneak up on the combined human fleet and launched bordering parties. The Marines and larger Imperial Navy ships managed to beat back any boards without significant damage the same cannot be said for several of the Navy Escort vessels hardest hit. In an attempt to save these the marines launched counter borders to those ships.

The Escort that Brynjarr’s squad was dispatch to was however beyond saving despite the bitter and hard fought attempt to reclaim it. During the extraction of the marines as the ship was falling into the gas giant Brynjarr was separated from his brothers by a mob of Ork. His brother held on as long as they could but eventually had to cast of from the doomed ship and Brynjarr was recorded as having gone down with the ship.

Void-hardened Armour

Naval Boltgun
Defiance-Pattern Boarding Shield
Power Axe

The Traveller (conversion by @anvils_of_konor)
The Traveller
Chapter of Origin: Unknown
Specialism: Tactical

"There is no glory here. Fight for this day, and the next."

I've tried to accommodate the information that Sobek provided, along with some slight alterations to better fit the character as I understood him...

The warrior known as the Traveller has gone by many names throughout his life. Some have called him Stormshroud; others know him as the Ghost-who-stalks-the-stars. There are those who believe his name to be Kai, though this may be truth or merely speculation. The Traveller cares nought; names mean little. Ultimately, his deeds will speak for him.

Most who see the Traveller will remark upon the cold visage of his beaked Mark VI plate, the pock-marked ceramite a testament to his brutal way of life and his many years journeying alone. About his person are various ammo pouches, packs and grenades. He wears a shroud of stormcloth, a rugged material that - though tattered and stained - offers some protection from the elements. From his belt hangs a collection of broken and burned amulets taken as trophies from his eternal prey: those who fight in the name of the Ecclesiarchy.

Those who have seen the Traveller's face speak of a warrior whose face bears the scars of years of unending conflict. His skin, once bronze, is now faded from years clad in warplate. They also speak of a scar covering half his face, the ruined flesh the work of cruel flame.

Gruff and taciturn, Kai is not one for frivolity or swagger. When he speaks his voice conveys his years of experience. Though blunt at times, he is not rude. He does not suffer fools lightly, especially when on mission. His demeanour however changes when he has his hated foe in his sights, Gone is the quiet warrior and in his place is a dark hunter whose eyes burn with hatred and vengeance.

History:

The Traveller has encountered the Iron Gods before; although Talek Varn has desired his service, he has never yet been able to claim such a champion for his band of renegades. Now, though, he has returned to the Solios Nebula in search of vengeance. A vendetta consumes him, and Varn has knowledge of where his target might be.

Serving alongside the Iron Gods is an unwelcome detour, and the Traveller has little time for pirates and renegades. But if he is to gain the knowledge he seeks from Varn, this is yet another trial to endure.

Service with the Iron Gods:
...

Weapons and Equipment:
- Umbra-Pattern Bolter "Spitfire"
This ancient bolter is the Traveller's most constant companion.

- Power Sword
The blade carried by the Traveller has a slight, sinuous curve that betrays its non-Imperial origins. It glistens with the rainbow sheen of oil on water, a spectrum that makes those who gaze upon it queasy. Carrying a blade of xenos manufacture will draw the ire and hatred of some; the Traveller cares not.

- Bolt Pistol
Silenced

- Combat Knife

- 3x Frag Grenades

- 3x Krak Grenades

- Mk VI Astartes Power Armour

Brother Draak

Chapter of Origin: [REDACTED]
Specialism: Devastator
Character Sheet: TBC

Appearance:
Draak is broad and tall for a Space Marine measuring eight feet in height, just a little bit shorter than Talek Varn. He has Light Blue skin, he has white hair that he wears in a short mohican and his eyeballs glow with an intense white light, Draak also has affixed to his left brow three golden Century Service Studs.

He wears an angry suit of Mk III 'Iron Armour' with a defaced Crux Terminatus on his left pauldron.

Personality:
Draak has a temper and he is scornful, but he has a sense of humour. Combat seems to focus him to the present, along with any opportunities to acquire and study xenotech.

Notes:
Amongst the Iron Gods these are some of the rumours you will hear about Brother Draak:

'Beware the Accursed One for his touch is death!'
'He comes from a Space Marine Chapter of Xenos and he was cast out!'
'Laugh at his jokes and ye may gain his trust, but also his doom!'

Ra‘skik‘kjia

Brother Ithan Khor  - otherwise known as “Redcloak”

Chapter of Origin: REDACTED

Specialisation: Techmarine

Character Sheet: TBA

As a rather recent arrival to the Solius  Nebula, Ithan Khor sought out the Iron Gods

Claiming to have served in the entourage  of  serveral rogue traders, Ithan Khor  before he had found himself involuntary  cast adrift into the region of the Solius Nebula  after being stranded during  a boarding action on  the space hulk “Boundless Despair”.

He then recently sought out the Iron Gods after falling out with the  Jo’tuun ice raider syndicates, offering his skills as a Techmarine in exchange for the opportunity to fight in the company of fellow Astartes again.

Appearance

Clad in a battered suit of Mk VII plate, smeared with meandering lines of soot  and ash, and wrapped in in a hooded cloak made of  wide swathes  of red  and orange cloth, often quite obviously taken from practitioners of the cults of Mars, there is little imagination required to understand how the hulking Astartes Warrior gained the moniker of “Ra‘skik‘kjia”, literally “ the   red cloak “ among the void farmers of the Jot’uun clans.

In fact, he has taken to stretch  a wedge of vermillion cloth over his left shoulder guard, pinning the rictus grin of a broken servo skull on it to display  the heraldry of the Iron Gods.

On his right, the Opus Machina leers between similar swathes of cloth,  shot through with ribbons made from augmented iron.

Arching over his back and adding to his already substantial bulk rises the mass of the Gravimetric Shear-Hook like the angry love child of a graviton cannon with a breaching augur from the  more arachnoid side of mechanical evolution as an uneven, roughly cylindrical mix  of grav lenses, stabilizing legs power cables, targeting arrays and cooling tubes.

Spread out over the armour and cloak are a generous helping of length of chain and barbed wire, something that looks uncomfortably like patches of skin tattooed with binary psalms as well as a generous helping of various pouches and small bags, along with an assortment of tools, a collection of cogs and other paraphernalia of the Martian cults  as well as a collection of metallic bones.

The most prominent of these are a collection of several augmented skull trophies, some of which are obviously former  servo skulls, though at least two seem to have come from rather more sentient  donors, as one who bears an obvious row of service starts of a veteran space marine while on the other, a uneven trio of dull sensory lenses stare from beneath the hood of a priest of the Mechanicum.

Of further  note, even if mostly hidden beneath the strips of cloth and chain wrapped around them, is that the warplate ‘s gauntlets which  seem to hail from another, far older suit of armour and have retained some of the features even now.  Here, the twinned lightning of the Terran  Legions form form a spearhead aimed towards the front of gauntlets’ backs. From the

these stream thin lines of stars, cast by inlayed dust made from  industrial diamonds. In between these lie microscopic lines and dots which along inter spaced sets of several numericals  may remind the initiated of Astro-navigational data. None of these  make sense to those present in the Nebula,  though if the traces of dust are anything to go on, this view  must be have been taken  quite far on the edges of the galactic disc indeed.

As if to prove this point, the sharp senses of an Astartes can still  make out the faded etchings along the trails  of the lightning bolts. It proclaims, in high gothic “Lux finiat” on one gauntlet and “Irat nit” on the other.

Helmet strapped to his belt, the ragged hood thrown back, Ithan Khor faces the world around him head on.

An unruly mane the colour of dirty sand u rolls from his head, some of which has been braided by strings of leather, electrical wiring and, in on in one place, what appears to be the ring sockets of a bionic eye.

Stitches, reconstructive nails and scars are sprayed  over his face, the right hand side of which has been extensively reconstructed, apparently along with more parts of his body damaged by severe injuries.

One eye glares from the skull shaped metal half skull, while his remaining left natural eye remains the colour of the winter sea.

The sneer of the metal part-skull seems only to enforce the loop of his grin and an easy smile never seems to leave his face. A  permanent shadow of beard stubbles steadfastly remains on his chin.

In ages past, this would have been the face of a conqueror dynast. In this day and age, Ithan Khor stands ready to stake his claim along the Iron Gods.

Radago S’ynek

Chapter of Origin: [REDACTED]
Specialism: Assault
Character Sheet: TBC

Appearance:
S’ynek is an unsettling visage. Gaunt and pale he never removes the rebreather that covers his face. He wears a dark green hood that keeps his features in shadow. From the darkness you can just make out a tattoo of a hooded snake, it’s jaws framing his left eye as its body coils across the side of his hairless head and down his neck.

It is his eyes that are the most unnerving. Twin orbs of burnished gold. Their soulless gaze is eerily hypnotic. Whether they are some artifact of his chapter’s gene seed, or some unknown form of bionics he never says.

He is clad in Mark VII armor that is functional and well maintained despite having seen better days. Harnessed about his person are a variety of blades. The largest is a serrated gladius with a hooked end and there is a smaller blade of similar make he wields in his off hand.

His armor is a dull bare metal, all trace of his former life scoured away. The only distinguishing mark is an image etched on the inner side of his left vambrace, two hooded snakes facing a rising black sun. Below this are the word“Rursus Difficile, Rursus Celeriter, Nulla Misercordia”

Personality:
S’ynek does not easily make comrades, he seems to be constantly measuring each interaction and calculating its benefit or danger to him.

Notes:
Radago is a drifter moving from place to place, offering his services to those with the coin or supplies he needs. He has no grand plan beyond survival.

Weapons and Equipment:

A variety of hooked and serrated blades

Bolt Pistol

Combat Blade

3 x Frag Grenades
3 x Krak Grenades
