Any news on the painters guides from the codex?

They don't do that in 40k codices anymore. I don't know why, as it is a feature of AoS battletomes, but such is life.

Whaaaatt!! That’s crazy why wouldn’t they do that it’s one of the best parts for me. I hope they release proper guides to beast snaggas not the battle ready ones. I miss they days of ole with Duncan doing proper guides

For sure. My AoS Ossiarch Bonereapers are painted using the guides in that battletome, and I find it super helpful. A shame 40k doesn't get that.

If they do something in White Dwarf, I'll let you know.

ya I don’t get why the codexes don’t have an actual hobby section anymore. Even just 2 pages showing a 3 step paint job for a basic troop model and a transport like the days of old.

They aren’t as in-depth as before though. Mainly just battle ready and they never update their app either with new colours. I just get confused on what the official ways are

What are these "Specialist mobs" anyway? Are we talking Burnas and Kommandos or are they more niche stuff like Scarboyz? I heard there were limitations to them but I'd like to feature more Kommandos and Stormboyz in my army.

One unit per detachment can get a free upgrade at the cost of their clan rules.

Burnas can do a minimum of 3 hits with their D6 shots if you choose their upgrade, theres one for Meganobz and Deff dreds where they get +1 to hit in combat.

Are ardboyz and skarboyz gone? Real shame if so.

I’m guessing so as the new boys kit presumably has no parts for the extra armour and snaggas are effectovely skarboyz

Yes, ard' boys and scar boys in name only now from the look of things, a little sad. Would have been nice to at least have had an option for a better save at some costs for Boys.

I'm not sure how GW even sees Orks from a design point of view. There's so much variety from the fluff but they don't seem overly interested in making it playable on the table top.

Probably a symptom of the most recent editions.

I've just seen that Deff Dreads are base 85 points now!

Killa Kans base 40 as well!

And, a fortification detachment is only ? 1 cp? ,so deep striking Boss Bunkas!  WAAAGH!

Burna Bombas Bombs are effectively a 12" blast Marker now...(12" AoE.)

Yikes! That's amazing!

I like War Biker too right now I need to buy some bases and rebase the ones I have. 9 Biker is 90 shots up close... and they came down in points.

I see serval points drops in the Ork codex now so it might balance well against the higher troop points costs.

I feel a list coming together.

Having looked over a bunch of images in imgur, I'm super excited for my deff dreads.

- 4 Klaws + Goff + Big Krumpas + Waaagh turn (why not?) = profit

On the rerollable charge, 8 attacks hitting on 2s with 6s causing extra hits, S11, 3 damage. And you can have 3 of these running around!

Not quite. Looking at the leaks, if you give them Big Krumpas they would lose the Goff keyword. Still good though, and exactly what I’m planning to do with my 3 combat Dreads.

Overall I'm liking the changes I'm seeing. I roll crap 90% of the time so the old Dakka Dakka Dakka rule was never something I even worried about, the new Dakka weapons are going to be more reliable, and with the smaller board sizes I'm alot less worried about being able to advance and shoot with boyz.

Dreads and Kanz both got some nice boosts in survivability and damage output. And paired with the Goff trait I think a Dread Mob could be a very viable list this edition. Add some mechgunz and you have some decent long range damage until all the walkers get in close to start shreding things. I am curious what if anything is going to happen to the Mega/Meka Dread from the Forgeworld side though. Currently running a Meka with the Deffs can be useful since it can put out some more damage and provide them some repairs. Plus i own one of each so I'd like to keep fielding them.

Warbikers are much better, buggies are a mixed bag, but overall I think they are in a good place and could work really well wtih the Badmoons trait for extra range zooming around the board as a mobile shooty army. The changes to the Rukkatrukk Squigbuggy not needing LoS for its Squig Cannons is really nice. Plus alot of the buggies have mortal wound generating abilities on the charge and the Careen strategem could be useful for getting an exploding buggie where it needs to be for some strategic damage.

I also think Beast Snaggas with the Snakebite trait could be a really fun way to play orks as well, especially against any mechanized force or something like a nid list since alot of their stuff has the monster keyword.

I think the one type of list that may be in a bad way this list is probably the classic greentide. The boost to boyz toughness is great but the boosted range on flamers and the number of high output blast weapons alot of factions have plus the change to mob rule means morale is going to be an issue and its going to hurt large units alot more.

Maybe everyone else already realised this and I was just being thick but the wurrboy is the same model precisely as on the kill rig. Not just similar, exactly the same. So I suspect it is the same arrangement as with say the tzeentch chariot and Necron barge in that the character comes with the vehicle but can be used separately. Bad news for anyone who wanted to buy just the wurrboy, good news for anyone who wanted both who now doesn’t have to spend £20 for a character.

As a magnet fiend I also note that both models use exactly he same parts just in different positions except that the wurrboy tower (great throwback to epic) is unique to the kill rig with the front mounting platform being vacant on the Hunter rig.

For me, the only real question is, can you replace the head of a stompa by a Boss Bunka ?

A Stompa is the smallest of the Ork Gargants in the lore, but the biggest we've gotten a model of. The larger ones should be the same size as the Imperial Warlord Titan. Which is what the Boos Bunka is representing the head of. Doubt we will ever get a model that size, though would be cool if they eventually add them to the Titanicus game.

Having just finished a unit of them, I’m glad to see that Nobs haven’t lost the double-choppy option.

I am disappointed that nobz bikers aren’t in the codex anymore. Not keen on shelling out for the FW book for one unit :(

Nob bikers have always been a Forgeworld kit though, so it's not surprising. Hopefully they don't get shifted to full on legend status like the warboss. The improvements to Warbikers make them a lot more viable this edition though.

Does anyone have any ideas about the squigrider nob being a separate unit? It’s very unusual as the only single nob model in the book is the waaagh banner bearer and no other unit leaders come separately. The only reason I can think of is that the kit is 6 models (3 boys, the nob and 2 minions) and so this was how they allow you to have a unit of 6 boyz and not have a nob leftover.

Yeah, I think I'll be running Warbikers and Deff Koptas in a speed Waaagh!!! this edition at some point. I think Buggies are in an okay spot as well. They nerfed the Kustom Jobs, but the units themselves got a boost with the new Ramshackle Rule, and the Squiq Buggy overall got buffed with the change to the Squig Launchas, though the squig mine is still a little under whelming. Scrapjets and Dragstas both still look pretty good, and while not amazing, both of the other two buggies have a little more survivability this edition. I don't think its a competitive list, but I might run 1 of each so I can buff them with some kustom jobs, and see what they can do in a casual game.

The nob on smasha squig kit is integrated into the Squighog boys so will be NOT be a separate kit.

Consequently if you want a unit of 6 Squighogs you'd need two boxes. Buying two means two nobs on smasha squigs which don't take up any FoC slots. I think this is why you can take one unit of Squighogs that allows you to take two smashas.

I ran the squigbuggy yesterday in a game, and I can tell you that between the mine, the Waaagh!, and +1S for being Goffs it tore down a hellhound in melee. The mine is situational, sure, but it was clutch for pulling off a couple of wounds.
