New to deamons

Just saying hello to fellow chaos Deamon fans.

I've had about 1000 - 1500 points of nurgle deamons laying around for a year or two and have finally started to put them together.

I'm picking up my GUO tomorrow and will be attempting to convert my glotkin model into rotigus.

But now...I really fancy getting some Khorne on the go also.

So that's where I am currently. No doubt I will end up with about 2k of both lol.

Thanks,

I purchased a couple of start collecting boxes to play with my DG, but due to COVID I haven't had any real games.

Now I think I will expand my deamons into khorne as the models look awesome (I'm more of a collector than gamer) and perhaps some WE stuff to run with Abby and some black legion / undivided. I also really like the new Belakor model, so will try and save up some cash to buy these things (cause as we know this hobby isn't cheap lol).

Welcome to the gang :D As Rumi says you're off to a good start, post up some pictures too don't forget! :tu:

The new Be'lakor model is fantastic, if you're quick you might be able to find a decent discount on him through a regional reseller :) They discounts tend to be better in first release (usually pre-order). Looking forward to seeing your daemons come along :)

Cheers,

I buy from my local GW and an independent (I try to give a little to both).

My local independent was promised 25 belakor models and then had an email from GW stating his allocation had changed to 1!

I will post some picture, but I am not a great painter (about average).

I will also be using my plague toads (purchased from fleabay ages ago) as Nurgle beasts as I do not like the new models and think the price per model outrageous.

These look great, plenty good enough for any table top :tu: If you want to make improvements building up the base slime a bit would make a difference so it covers better, but I'm not sure the best way to do this.

GW disappoints shall we say with releases of late, hopefully you can get Be'lakor soon - you have plenty to keep busy with in the meantime at least ;)

I base coated them yesterday, he looks cool now as you can't see all the GS lol. I picked the glotkin model up ages ago from fleabay for £37. I then sold the two models that come with him and made nearly all of the cost back. The sorcerer dude that came with him went for nearly £20. Must have been a popular AOS model I guess. Appreciate that mate.

I am okay at painting, like I said nothing overly special.

I only have brushes, no space for air paints and things.  I see some of the work / images others post on here and I often sit and think, wow, I wish I could paint that well lol.

I try and follow stuff on youtube for ideas and things.

I have base coated everything now, so i can slowly start painting my way through it.

On a positive my wife loves me and purchased me a start collecting Khorne Deamons box and Khârn model - so I guess I will add some WE to my list of projects, but will hold fire on these as I want to see if GW release any new models.  I have Abaddon painted, but nothing else WE / black legion as its all DG.  Space for all these toys is also limited, so may be a small Black Legion Patrol and a small WE patrol for example.  We shall see.

There's a lot of different skill levels around if you look beyond the threads with lots of replies. They're also worth paying attention to.

Daemons don't really benefit that much from airbrushes, not that I have any experiance there. Washes, contrast paints and drybrushing works very well on them.

Indeed, Daemons do well with the wash type paint approach particularly Nurgle - all painting methods are tools to be used as needed. The rest is good old fashioned elbow grease; if you're always trying to do better then you're hobbying right :smile.: Conversion and magnetisation work isn't run of the mill hobby don't forget so don't only focus on the painting side :tu:

Once you've got some Daemons together for a group shot I think you'll be pleased with the result, as that's when a paint scheme really comes together (we paint armies not single models after all) :)

GW has plenty of good tutorials yeah, I based my Thousand Sons scheme on Duncan's - not as good as his but still nicer for it :P I make extensive use of washes on my Chaos armies, they're more than liquid talent slap and done. Tools are what you make of them like most things :) We can't all put in extra effort on the rank and file especially for more horde armies, that's best saved for larger and more special models.

Less talk more painting though. You're being smart starting on the troops, it's always good to get the basics ready first so you're getting a working army sooner. The larger models make for good breaks between the numberless hordes, I'm looking forward to when you get round to your Greater Daemons :tu:

It will be a while till I post again now as I will take ages painting the GUO and Glotikus.  I will be following Duncan's GW video for the GUO and Authentic Studios 7 part video on painting the Glotkin (that's gonna push my abilities).

So that's it for a few months more than likely :-)
