New Flayed Ones and poses

I never got the Killteam boxed set so I have no idea, but how posable are the new Flayed Ones? The models look great but like the Skorpekh Destroyers models, they appear to be completely monopose. Since large units is generally the way to play, this is a problem for Flayed Ones.

Has anyone gotten these models and found they are a little more posable than they appear?

I've seen some cool conversions with Warriors covered in green stuff for skin which looks workable though the clawed hands would be the issue there. Really, I'd prefer the Flayed Ones box since it's easier to add new skin to then than from scratch.

I haven't got any yet but posing them does look a bit problematic. There don't seem to be any optional bits even, unlike stuff like the new zombie sprue for AoS.

From what I can see, it looks like some bits will be more swappable than others. For example, I can see that at least one of the arms connects to the head, so those two will kind of have to be used together. You might be able to cheat there by using a Warrior face instead though.

I think that you'll be able to do quite a bit if you're creative, but it would take time and possibly result in more fragile models, which is a real issue for melee units like these. I have bad memories of kroot getting caught on every piece of terrain (made worse because they were always in forests) and I think these could suffer the same issue, which is caused by being covered in hooks. That's very likely to result in arms coming off all the time if they're not really strong.

To be fair, these guys are replacing monopose finecast models. So in a way things aren't getting worse. I don't personally plan to get any right away as I'm not really convinced they're all that good for my list, but I expect I'll get some eventually. Can't say I'm really looking forward to converting them all.

GW have always had a problem with this unit, since making modular models is going to be difficult when they're covered in human skin! I like to think GW could have done it nowadays though.

I might have to see how the kits go and what I can do.

They're monopose, so not really designed to be altered. The limbs are pretty thin though, so it'd probably be easy enough to assemble it "correctly" then cut & repose some of it. But yeah, everything is "keyed" rather than ball joint type attachments. At least from memory, it's been a bit since I put them together. I haven't primed/ painted yet, since 5 is only 5.

I’m on the same train as Daimyo-Phaeron Lenoch. The dollar value of the kit does not match the point value of the unit/models.

Twice as many warriors for a little bit less, and I’m sure somebody out there has a a bit that would work for the claws.

That said, no fault to anyone who picks up the kit. Hopefully there’s some good conversion fodder in there.

$50 ****** dollars for 5 flayed ones?? I've swallowed the GW price hikes for well over a decade but this....this is the first time I'm going to have to draw a line in the sand for a gorgeous new model kit for one of my primary armies. I will gladly fish for my old pewter ones. $200 for a full squad...sheesh! Edited by Ahzek451

My thoughts exactly. :)

Great models and great idea.

I'd prefer Claws to weapons though. What realistic source of claws would someone suggest?

I’ve used (poorly) chopped up bits of plasticard for some wicked-looking cutting claws, which I would probably do again if I ever make some proper flayed ones (as opposed to my Flayer 6-limbed immortals). I can grab pictures later for you, Capt. Idaho

Also for your consideration, the new Flayed Ones cost on the order of 50 per 5 models. I would strongly recommend converting some instead.

I guess we'll find out in a couple days, but I haven't seen the price listed anywhere yet. They're certainly not worth $50 to me, but even if they're $40 that'll probably remove them from my interest. $50 for 10 would have been nice, and it's sort of irritating that they made them a 5 pack instead of 10 packs, but it is what it is.

I don't know how realistic this source could be, but I've always thought Sicarian Infiltrator claws would do the trick if you didn't want to fabricate something. There's only a few per box it seems so maybe a custom blade hand and this clawed grabby hand would be best. Know anyone who plays AdMech?

IDICBeer 40k does have quite a few (ok, more like quite a lot!) excellent Necron videos. I tend to watch his stuff in bursts, so I don't know exactly what his flayed one video may or may not look like, but his conversion videos are high quality.

Couldn't see a conversion piece on there for Flayed Ones (if someone can and links to correct myself that would be great!) but just watching now his tips on Skorpekh Destroyers conversions so they aren't all monopose. :)

Regarding Flayed Ones, I'll take a goosey at Sicaran claws I might be able to procure. They look quite good and a little horrific.
