Converting rubrics and SoT

Recommended Posts

Not as far as I'm aware, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone out there has. The newer CSM sculpts will fit better to the Sons aesthetic but would still be missing bits - the ancient Egyptian theme is a strong one. That said, some kit bashing/conversion work to add this is likely all you really need. As with most Marines a lot comes from the helmets and shoulder pads, if you could add a Sons look here I'm sure they'd work. Easier on power armour, but as it would mostly be additions to the model shouldn't be much extra work for the Terminators? At least outside of weapon swaps (e.g. power fist to sword)?

only Rubrics and Sorcerers so far.....mostly to give the Rubrics a bit of variety.

Aspiring sorcerer is one of the "new" Chaos:

Sorcerer and Soulreaper are "new" Chaos:

most of the new Chaos stuff I've made into sorcerers of some sort:

Haven't tried the Scarab Occult yet, the Rubrics are already pretty compatible with the modern Chaos marines (although the new ones tend to have more "trinkets") and the Tartaros based Scarab occult are great sculpts as it is.

Has any one tried converting rubrics or SoT from the newer chaos marines and terminator sculpts?

How do you mean, adding Thousand Sons bits to the CSM unit, or do you have a CSM unit and you want to make them into Thousand Sons without buying a box of Rubrics for parts?

Kinda like what Tich showed off Xenith, I already have 25 rubrics and some SoT and while I do like the models I also love kitbashing and converting and adding my own touch to them.

I also ended up picking up the chaos start collecting and the chaos Xmas box the decimator warband so I though about making use of the models to add to my tSons

There are also various 3rd party sources from which you can get egyptian style heads, so you could likely buy some of those if you didn't want to get a box of rubrics - provided your local gaming environment is open to such things.

Those kitbashes are super sweat, Tichinde.

Whoa, nice kitbashes Tichinde!

Thanks! Most are just careful cutting and head/shoulder/backpack swaps. Abandon took a bit more effort. I kinda want to do a whole rubric squad using the new Chaos Marines but I still have a lot to get through first.

Man those look good! Talking about both the kitbashing and the painting.

If you ever like the look of some of the CSM heads without horns and want to use them with Sons, I'd suggest getting some Exalted Sorcerer bits and using the neck collars to give the same vertical decoration, just not mounted ON the head. MkIII helmets look pretty good that way if you're going for an "Order of Ruin" feel or want to visually tie in to the Prospero HH box. I occasionally design Rubric Marines in different marks of armor because they can't ALL be IV/V, right?

For terminators, it's fairly easy to put Scarab Occult torsos together with regular Chaos Terminator limbs and heads if you want to do a little cutting. You could also get regular Space Marine Terminators and do the same thing with probably less cutting since they're an older kit.....then maybe put some blank Indomitus shoulder pads on over the Tartaros weapon arms that the Scarabs have.

Man, this thread makes me want our old "heavy hitter" Indomitus Termies back from 3.0.

That is the origional art piece we used to try and convert rubric terminators back in the day when cult terminators were introduced in chapter approved.  I remember chopping headdress off and glueing them on top of the old pewter terminators. I'm sure a google search will find many of those modeled off that pic as nothing was available at the time except to convert.
