Blightlords Dilemma.

Hi,

I'm in a bit of dilemma as i strive to build a 1000pts Vanguard list going off the Ferryman plague company.

The list is this:

LoC - Ferryman Scythe, The Droning

2 x Blightlord Units (5 in each) - c/m, c/f, c/p, reaper and spewer in both + 1 squad champion has explosive outbreak

2 x Deathshroud (3 in each) - 1 has the reaper of glorious entropy + 2 Plaguespurt Gauntlets on the champion the other has acidic malady and also 2 PG's on the champion

Finally a Foul Blightspawn with Stench Vats

This comes to 1000pts bang on (i think) and i'm pretty happy with it.

I think it's pretty characterful but..........

....If i drop all the add ons in the 2 BL units i get to fit in a Tallyman who seems a fairly decent addition to the force,

Basically, is the payoff a step up? There is no give in any other part of the force as i like it's build so the BL's are what would be downgraded. So are they still a great fit just kitted out in Combi-Bolters, Axes and swords, compared to the lists previous incarnation of them?

Would love to hear peoples views, ideas etc.

At the end of the day i have to feel the force is characterful, which i think it is, but i also don't want to be kicked around the board for around an hour and a half every game so if the Tallyman is a better choice without affecting the feel of the force then great.

I don't think combi-weapons are worth bothering with on Blightlords. Spewers are good for the points, but if you're not deep striking, they don't gel well with the effective range of the unit's other weapons. Flails are essential. Reapers and blight launchers are both solid. I prefer reapers.

Blightlords are absolutely fantastic stock though, if you want to go that way. They can get the job done with virtually no investment. I'm not sure the Tallyman will significantly affect the way this force plays, although the extra CP makes him an auto-include in every game I play at 1500/2000. You have very few models on the board so I'd probably lean towards his inclusion.

The tallyman gives a unit +1 to hit and extra CP, to me that is more valuable then anything you would be giving up. Adding +1 to hit to on the Deathshroud when they use the -1 profile on their weapon, worth it. Hitting on 2+ with the-rolls on that profile is such a good advantage. Even to use it on Blightlords to hit with Combi-Bolters plus the extra 2CP to have +1 to wound, he’s worth it.

Thanks for all the great tips guys.

Taking on board whats been said, i've dropped all the combi-weapons and stuck a flail & Blight Launcher in both the BL squads. This would have put me 20pts over for getting the Tallyman but i've decided to not take the Acidic Malady in the Deathdshroud squad.

I think the list still retains the feel of the Ferrymen but also allows the Blightlords to be a little more interesting in their build, thus modelling them.

Only downside was having to go into battle with no Pathogens in play which would have been fun but the Tallyman seemed too much of an upgrade.

Like i said, i'm not out to win a GT or anything but it's no fun getting rolled over every game. Talking of which my first one is this week, could be interesting.

Once again, cheers for the pointers.

Dont bother with the blight launchers...they are pointless

1000pts is not the game designing balanced at.

Don't consider much "competitive facts" when purchasing models for your 1000pts collection. You love the model? Just buy it!

If really thirst for a win at 1000pts, just bring Morty.

Blight launchers are good, considering you can even advance and shoot them at -1 penalty. And for 5pts, I would say it doesn't really hurt.

Combi melta can be good too, because sometimes, you'll meet a Redemptor Dread that could ruin the day of your Terminator squad... (and they are assault weapons too, so can shoot after advancing). Finally, the flail is an auto-include at 5pts.

The Ferrymen are a fun company but you need to bring some Virions characters (to take profit of their company strat) ; I'd go for 1 Plague surgeon to make sure your Termis last even longer, a Blightspawn with Relic Vats to ruin ennemy charges, and a Tallyman for the obvious buff to hit and the CP.

I would start there and see how many Termis you can fit in the list after that !

Whatever ; enjoy your games !

Had my first game the other day which i thoroughly enjoyed against a Salamanders force. Everything i took had it's moment in the sun, the BL's with the Flails & launchers were a good shout and fun to play (i did notice that i was using the 'Vermid Whispers' strategem often), so thanks for that.

Lost the game 12pts to 4pts as i didn't really get to the tokens to score the points early on as my force was far to condensed in trying to keep within aura ranges (plus i probably wasn't aggressive enough).

I've been given 30 poxwalkers so i will be dropping one squad of Deathshrouds to be able to take 2 squads of 15 of these so they can get in point scoring positions earlier in the game and leave me less to do in the later turns.
