Sanguinary Guard armies?

Good afternoon fellow fans of the Blood Angels!  I loved them way back in 5th edition (I found some of my old posts here even!)

Is there any way to get Sanguinary Guard as troops again?  I've looked online and found nothing, but I thought I would ask.  If not, what is the closest you can do?

My old list was just Dante, 3 Dreadnoughts (one a Librarian), and I think 6 squads of sanguinary guard and some sanguinary priests.

Thanks in advance!

There are no longer any ways to force certain units into different slots i believe as that went away pretty much as soon as 8th came about. Generally speaking, you're only really getting discounts on existing force orgs but not actually any adjustments to what units belong to what slots.

Having said that, you may find that one of the existing force org charts will have the number of elite slots you need to field this, at a cost of some amount of points in your command point pool of course. However this does not automatically give them the Objective Secured ability that most troop units receive so it's not going to net you much other than elite slots.

Closest you could do would be

Dante

Sanguinor

3x10 sanguinary guard

Sanguinary ancient.

I would pay the 1 cp to give a warlord trait to the ancient and give him rights of war and for the relic give him wrath of Baal.

Might not be the most competitive but damn it would be fun to play!

Furioso still exists but is not particularly great in 9th. The Librarian Dread on the other handy is quite nifty as it is a Character meaning it cannot be targetted if it is near friendly units. Give him the "Wings of Sanguinius" psychic power and have him fly into melee alongside the Sanguinary Guard.

As others have said, you cannot run Sanguinary Guard as Troops. You have 2 options. Firstly, run a normal Battalion and pay a tax of 300-ish points for 3 Troop squads. Secondly pay 3CPs and run a Vanguard Detachment which means you can bring as many Elites as you want without need Troops.

Sanguinary Guard are awesome but are a bit of a glass hammer. I like running mine with a Sanguinary Priest and Jump Pack. Give him the Selfless Healer WLT and Chief Apothecary upgrade and he can heal 2 units per turn and revive fallen models. He helps give them SG some much-needed resilience.

Hate to be that guy, but aren't there supposed to be like 25 Sanguinary Guard total, in the lore? And considering the rigidity of the Space Marine chapter structure, we know at least a few of them must be filling in part-time as Stormraven pilots and such...

I don't think the Codex Astartes supports this action

I was thinking the same - then I figured a way - Sang Guard from various successors band together for a mission

Back in the old edition, I was using 5-man squads, so was at 30 sanguinary guard which is still above the 25 you mentioned ...

Thanks for all of the advice ... sounds like I should redirect both from fluff and strategy regardless (even though they are some of the models out there)

Chapter fluff went out the window when Guilliman came back.

You can still build whatever army you like - it's just that the esoteric armies are tactically less flexible, so start with fewer command points.

Dante+Librarian Dread + 3x10 Sanguinary Guard+2 dreads+sanguinary Ancient is still a fully legal army.

It fits into a Vanguard detachment, and starts with probably 9CP.
