Fixing Veteran Intercessors

As much as I'd like them to be ObSec and master-crafted, I agree that does start a slippery slope. I do like the ability to mix and match Assault and Standard Intercessors with the ability to choose their Doctrine and use the associated Stratagems.

 

I'm still not sure I'd choose them over my Bladeguard or Aggressors but I'd definitely do some trial runs to see if the versatility was equally useful as the other choices.

 

My feeling is it would need another "nudge" to make them really worth it.

id allow 1 model to take one of the hellblasters' guns and 1 model to take one of the eradicators' guns, or something similar.

Sarge w/ special melee weapon and 1 or 2 models with true special weapons, and 1 with an AGL (if a unit of 10) unit of 5 1 model with a true special weapon, and 1 AGL.

how exactly is having options wasteful?

Basically they need to be obsec. It's a unit I could vaguely consider using as I play Crimson Fists and Kantor's trait would make them obsec, while his aura gave them 4 attacks each. Even then, I can't honestly imagine taking a unit of these guys when things like bladeguard exist.

 

I do like the idea of giving them some variety. Unfortunately, GW have decided that Primaris units have to be built from a single box, so that's not going to happen.

 

In all honesty I skip past these guys. They don't work but it's not really a problem. In my mind veteran intercessors become bladeguard, sergeants, or maybe some other fun stuff in future.

i actually kind of disagree with Ishagu here.

Primaris seem broadly modelled after HH specialist squad setups. In HH, veterans are the ones that have all the more varied options. Would be good to see that here too.

Imagine if veteran intercessors could:
- take chainswords in addition to their rifles at a cost (whole squad)

- replace their bolt rifles with chainswords for free (whole squad)
- replace bolt rifles with auto or stalker bolt rifles (same as now, whole squad)

- always had heavy bolt pistols (whole squad)
- could take multiple grenade launchers (maybe 2 per squad + sergeant)

- could take multiple plasma pistols (maybe 2 per squad + sergeant)

- could take multiple melee weapons (maybe 2 per squad + sergeant)

Then on top of the above, give them a veteran special rule like "Adaptive tactics" and let them essentially get the "count as different doctrine" strat once per game at no CP cost.

They'd FEEL like veterans then, and be pretty in keeping with how the 30k vets work.

I meant ALL those options. I.e. You could run them essentially as intercessors, assault intercessors or pay a bit more and have them be both in terms of loadout.

The issue is, if those weapons are trash, redundant or over costed, the unit is worthless. Hellblasters are a pretty good example, of this.

The issue is, if those weapons are trash, redundant or over costed, the unit is worthless. Hellblasters are a pretty good example, of this.

Hellblasters are good right now, especially the assault Plasma variant.
