Contekar Terminators - what is this?

On the sergeant model there are what appears to be two cheese slices nailed to his leg. Several other models have them on their weapons (5th photo). 

It's not painted like the other skin, and it's not bone so....any ideas?

Crusade has a Night Raptor colour plate where they’re identified as “Nostraman gang signs etched on parchment and affixed directly to the battleplate, each likely noting some ongoing feud within the Legion”. Just bloodstained bits of parchment with Nostraman runes in red.

 

Unoffically, there’s a reference somewhere to Curze being into divination with the Imperial Tarot. I think they’d look awesome painted up/transferred as tarot cards.

Old cards, worn and fraying, discoloured and liver-spotted with time. One by one, Malcador laid them out.

It’s really hard to make a sandwich while wearing Terminator armor. Stuff gets dropped.

Twisted idea: paint them as if they're tattoos on skin that has been flayed from a victim. The real challenge here is that they appear to have regular shapes rather than looking irregular such as flayed skin would look.
