Plasma Burner rules 40k - feedback and thoughts

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to devise rules for 40k 9th for the HH Plasma Burner for use in my next Red Hunters chapter Fandex. Instead of just making them a class of plasma flamers (i.e. auto-hits) I've tried to interpret the HH rules in the 40k setting. I've also changed the name of 'Plasma Incinerator' to 'Plasma Liquidator' to avoid confusion with the new Primaris weapons. Thoughts and feedback are appreciated!

Plasma Burner and Plasma Liquidator Weapons

The Red Hunters Chapter is rare amongst the many chapters of the Astartes in that they house a large repository of ancient Great Crusade Era weapons within their Chapter Armorium on Fortress Montsegnur. This includes specialized plasma ‘Burner’ and ‘Liquidator’ weapons, a dangerous offshoot of more common plasma technologies. These weapons vent plasma gas through a magnetic bottle in high-speed jets. Any enemy caught in the path of such a jet is quickly reduced to liquified molten slag, the pressurized torrents of raw plasma flame steadily leaving no trace of the targets presence. However, the magnetic fields that keep the super-heated gas contained are fragile and emit a low-intensity field of radiation which can affect a marines’ long-term survivability. Worst still when the energized raw gas is overcharged the containment can rupture, incinerating the bearer of the weapon in a localised firestorm of raging plasma flame.

The rules for PLASMA BURNER and PLASMA LIQUIDATOR weapons are repeated below for ease of reference:

Weapon                                            Range        Type              S       AP      D
Plasma Burner                                  12"              Assault D3     6       -2        1
Plasma Burner (Overcharged)             12"              Assault D3     7       -2        2
Plasma Liquidator                             18"              Heavy D6       7       -2        2
Plasma Liquidator (Overcharged)        18"              Heavy D6       8       -2        3

In addition, all PLASMA BURNER and PLASMA LIQUIDATOR weapons have the same PLASMA FLAME ability which is described below.

PLASMA FLAME: Each time an attack is made with this weapon the user may re-roll any failed hit rolls. When hit rolls are made using the ‘Overcharged’ profile an unmodified to hit roll of 1 results in the attacking model being destroyed after that attack has been resolved.

An aid to translation would be to post their Age of Darkness (~WH40K 7th edition) rules here, along with the rules for other plasma weapons from that era that are still used in the current era. With those, members can more easily convert 9th edition rules for these weapons (by comparing patterns for those that already appear in 9th edition and applying similar methodologies to those that don't otherwise appear).

In addition, the Red Hunters have a couple of Stratagems and Crusade options for increasing the effectiveness for such DAOT weaponry. These rules will be in the Fandex but for now here is an example of one such Stratagem for them which pairs with the new weapon:

Hi Brother Tyler, is this information ok for more feedback and help with informing my ideas on 40k Plasma Burners, and with the accompanying Stratagem? My thought on the Stratagem was to also make it <INFANTRY> only to emphasize the use by small trained squads rather than wide use with vehicles or bikers.

Cheers

MF
