Watch Fortress Sentinel IX

This is a very impressive force you've built and painted! I love the effort that's been made to make each model unique and identifiable as being a part of its parent Chapter with more than just the shoulder pad. :thumbsup:

Thanks!

I worked a bit more on the Watch Master today:

Next up is the armor and gold, still a ways to go.

Here is the main base along with the mechanicus thralls:

Whole group of bases so far:

A short primer for my impending Watch Master's completion!

~~~
Beloved, you must take heed to avenge yourselves and give no place to wrath; for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, and I shall repay,” so saith the Emperor.
gallery_103048_17086_104595.jpg
Watch Masters are the foremost Alien Hunters in the galaxy. They are counted as heroes even amongst the highest echelons of the Adeptus Astartes, for these men have tested their mettle against a hundred species of aliens and emerged triumphant. Within the Deathwatch their word is law, but they do not win this authority and respect with rousing rhetoric nor generous gestures- they are typically curt of speech and fierce of temper, and do not suffer fools. Their mission is only to ensure the survival of the greater Human species, and it is a duty they do not take lightly.
On the strategic level, the Watch Masters work ceaselessly to outwit and outmaneuver the warlords of the alien races, to stymie invasions before they occur, to bring ascendant dynasties to their knees, and to wipe out parasitic species that would otherwise infest great swathes of imperial space. They have full knowledge of the terrible threats they guard against, knowledge that is often imparted only to those within the highest levels of the Inquisition who are held within great trust. They have the ear of the Inquisition and the Adeptus Astartes both, and on their authority entire sectors may burn. They and they alone hold the access codes to the sealed vaults at the heart of each Watch Fortress, and hold the power of Exterminatus itself in their hands.
A Watch Master acts with authority as he sees fit, according to his own counsel and judgement, answerable to no one except his fellow watch commanders, the Inquisition, and ultimately to the Emperor of Mankind Himself.
Death to the Alien.
The Emperor Protects!
Here he is, presenting Watch Master Chorazin Scapulial, previously of the Angels of Vengeance chapter:
gallery_103048_17086_183195.jpg
Watch Master Chorazin Scapulial is responsible for the death of trillions of xenos and simultaneously the death of untold billions of his own species. Entire sectors of space have been put to the sword by his orders to prevent them falling into the clutches of the alien. His only goal is the ultimate survival of humanity… at any cost.
gallery_103048_17086_26514.jpg
Formerly one of the highest ranking members of the Unforgiven, Chorazin has since been called upon and sworn his oath to the Deathwatch, to serve as the Master of Watch Fortress Sentinel IX. Since assuming his role he has carried out countless missions and xenocidal campaigns against the threats besetting the Imperium on all sides. At the behest of the Ordos Xenos and agents such as Inquisitor Kryptman, Chorazin’s orders of Exterminatus have been carried out on thousands of Imperium worlds to prevent them from falling into xenos hands or to eliminate the heretical alien taint. Over a myriad of worlds Chorazin has traversed to personally smite his enemies and lead the forces to the Deathwatch to victory against the Imperium’s most existential threats.
gallery_103048_17086_318970.jpg
Marine Name: Watch Master Chorazin Scapulial
Duty Position: Commander of Watch Fortress Sentinel IX
Chapter Name: Angels of Vengeance
Successor of: Dark Angels (2nd Founding)
Homeworld: Unknown, recruits from various feudal worlds such as Nachtwald
gallery_103048_17086_337350.jpg
I wanted the watch master in my force to be homage to my favorite chapter-master model conversion, the Chapter Master Chorazin made by Chris Borer of Full Borer Miniatures a few years back (2007, was it really that long ago!?).
gallery_103048_17086_200304.jpg
I assume that my own version could be a successor to the previously sculpted Chorozin, potentially a version who existed sometime in the far future after he retired from his duties as the Chapter Master of the Angels of Vengeance and pledged his service to the Long Vigil. Undoubtedly he would be a powerful addition to the Deathwatch, and likely a secret double-agent for the legion of the Unforgiven.
gallery_103048_17086_277775.jpg
Being privy to all the Dark Angel and successor secrets he likely would have the ear of the Dark Angel chapter-master on all things related to the Deathwatch and xenos extermination. He is the primary reason why I have planned one of my spectrus teams to be filled by solely Dark Angel successors. This kill team would normally operate just like any other kill team, until the discovery of some Fallen Angel on a far-away xenos world or hidden within an alien empire. Then they would be activated on the secret orders of the Watch Master himself to perform lethal assassination or extraction missions, and send back the reports and/or captured Fallen to the Unforgiven chapters.
gallery_103048_17086_134519.jpg
The model itself is based on the new Helbrecht model. I was originally thinking of using the Dark Angels Captain Lazarus model but felt it wasn’t imposing enough. I love the Black Templars, and since every new Space Marine release is a covert Deathwatch release at the same time, it was a great time for a conversion! Plus this gives me a great excuse to make multiple bases for the same model. He has the big base slaying the Orks with his servitors in tow, and a few more bases depicting him slaying a Necron, Tau, and Eldar just in case I ever come across any of those foes. Still gotta do a tyrannid base though...
gallery_103048_17086_148536.jpg
Chapter Heraldry had to be repainted a bit, as the red on the transfer didnt' show up so well. That being said, I am happy the transfer was small enough to fit on the spot on the shoulder pad!
gallery_103048_17086_64065.jpg
Note on the Ork base, that despite the single dead ork there are a huge number of human skulls behind the Watch Master. This helps call to mind that rampant Exterminatus orders and human collateral deaths that Chorazin is responsible for, all in the name of defeating the xenos threat from the galaxy.
gallery_103048_17086_374191.jpg
Really happy with how the model itself turned out, he has a few bits from the Watch Master kit, specifically his right shoulder pad and his gauntlet which I couldn’t get in any other kit. I made a few alterations like getting rid of the straight up Templar heraldry (Emperor forgive me) like swapping the candles for some plasticard angel wings and giving a few skulls Angels of Vengeance hoods. I also swapped the cross on his belt chain with a more Dark-Angel-esque feather, harkening to Chorazin’s former service as a member and/or Captain of the Raptorwing, the Angels of Vengeance First Company.
The servo-thralls were fun to do as well, but I wanted to have them hooded instead of the servitor heads so swapped in some Mechanicus bits.
gallery_103048_17086_67928.jpg
“Betram, bring me my combi melta!”
gallery_103048_17086_42122.jpg
The alternate bases were also fun to make! I plan to purchase a cheap carnosaur off ebay (or a 3D printed look-alike) to use for a bit tyrannid base at some point too.
gallery_103048_17086_17838.jpg
I also included his campaign badges on the tiny shields on the model (two on front, one in back):
gallery_103048_17086_1498.png
Campaign badges: Armageddon, Tarsis Ultra/Leviathan Cordon, Octarius
All the bases!
gallery_103048_17086_233357.jpg
Hope you like him!
I love your watchmaster! Its a powerfull kitbash and a great result! When i see this model i believe he is the master of the watch!
Thanks!!!
I have the next phase of minis (mostly phobos models) fully assembled and slowly being painted.
gallery_103048_17086_259206.jpg
Very excited for my eliminator corps. Really like the feel of these models, so cast a few extra bodies and robes so I can make use of all the extra weapons in the kit. And made a few more with extra space marine arms and xenos weapons!
gallery_103048_17086_264708.jpg
Also experimenting with a few alternate heads, to include a few from statuesque miniatures.
gallery_103048_17086_88734.jpg
gallery_103048_17086_247411.jpg
My eliminator sergeants:
gallery_103048_17086_249360.jpg
Also having fun converting up my other phobos troops. Excited for this new phobos apothecary/infiltrator helix adept!
gallery_103048_17086_203729.jpg
gallery_103048_17086_192884.jpg
Some comms specialists:
gallery_103048_17086_95390.jpg
Two more helix adepts that I will probably need to clean up a bit more:
gallery_103048_17086_104778.jpg
gallery_103048_17086_223821.jpg
Also got a small squad of incursors. These two have their right arms magnetized so I can swap in the mines that come with the kit (though I forgot to take a picture of those):
gallery_103048_17086_225863.jpg
More phobos head experiments with these two incursors!
gallery_103048_17086_46937.jpg
Last but certainly not least is the final eliminator I put together after the rest of the batch was already primed: an eliminator kill marine!
gallery_103048_17086_136444.jpg
Super excited with my experiment to make space marine dreadlocks. He will be jumping up to the front of the paint queue for sure.
Finished my first two eliminators!
gallery_103048_17086_211519.jpg
First is Sergeant Tournuvial of the Disciples of Caliban:
gallery_103048_17086_144990.jpg
Ever since their unorthodox founding, the Disciples of Caliban have ben tasked to fulfill a specific purpose, rumored amongst the other Unforgiven to be for the single-minded pursuit and capture of the Renegade Fallen Angel known as Cypher. Their fleet-based nature allows for strikes with blistering speed, aiding in the rapidity with which they can traverse the Imperium.
It is whispered by some that the Disciples only ever allow its brethren to stand the Long Watch if and when it serves their purpose. Perhaps by sending Battle-Brothers to serve the Deathwatch, the Disciples of Caliban may uncover intelligence they would otherwise never have access too. What might happen should such a mission clash with the activities of the Deathwatch, and the loyalties of a Disciples of Caliban Battle-Brother be conflicted, remains yet to be seen…
gallery_103048_17086_163472.jpg
Marine Name: Sergeant Tournuvial
Duty Position: Phobos Eliminator Sergeant armed with bolt sniper rifle and camo cloak
Chapter Name: Disciples of Caliban
Successor of: Dark Angels (37th Millenium)
Homeworld: Fleet Based
gallery_103048_17086_5724.jpg
So unlike most of the marines I have done so far, most of the Eliminator is covered up with cloaks. I really wanted to try a digi-camo scheme, but I like how it looks in just plain brown! I may experiment with some future ones, but I am super happy with how these two turned out.
I still want to show each of these eliminators as originating from a specific chapter, so for those who have their right shoulderpad covered up I will likely make some of their heraldry present on their left kneepad. Had fun attempting to paint the Disciples of Caliban lion!
~~~

Second test eliminator is Brother Zumaridi of the Sons of Medusa!

gallery_103048_17086_306508.jpg

In M42, the Sons of Medusa conducted a joint operation with members of the Mordian Iron Guard to clear the shrine world of Damhal from a Hrud infestation. Few of the Sons and none of the Iron Guard were able to make it off the planet alive, having been rapidly aged and destroyed by the Hrud’s natural entropic powers. After this devastating loss, it took a combined insertion of two full Deathwatch companies of Keep Extremis Watch Fortress, led by a compliment of eight Deathwatch Dreadnoughts, to finally infiltrate the Hrud’s warren.

gallery_103048_17086_80569.jpg

The ancients were able to endure the xenos’ parasite’s aura long enough to slaughter their leaders and collapse their tunnels, but at a cost of rendering themselves inoperable by the accumulation of deterioration and rust on their now unbelievable ancient sarcophagi. When the operation was concluded and the sarcophagi were finally opened, the heroes within had been turned to dust by the Hrud’s horrific entropic powers.

gallery_103048_17086_14862.jpg

Marine Name: Brother Zumaridi, often shortened to Brother Zumar

Duty Position: Phobos Eliminator armed with instigator bolt carbine and camo cloak

Chapter Name: Sons of Medusa, Atropos War Clan

Successor of: Iron Hands (Moriae Schism)

Homeworld: Fleet Based, monastery in fortified asteroids of Taelus

gallery_103048_17086_178800.jpg

So much fun assembling and painting this guy. After I put together the dreadlocks I attempted to use Indris Elba as Heimdall (MCU) as inspiration for his skin tone.

gallery_103048_17086_1836.jpg

Sons of Medusa were an obvious choice for me as they are one of my favorite chapters, and though I have already made a few of these guys I think the hair really harkened back to a medusa too! Also gives a great Predator vibe.

gallery_103048_17086_191425.jpg

Hope you like how he turned out!

gallery_103048_17086_80127.jpg

Zumaridi is Swahili for 'emerald.'

Considering that is the color of the armor of the Sons of Medusa I felt the name was appropriate :smile.:

Completed my next phobos-armored addition to my Deathwatch that also serves as a homage to a model created by the mighty Kurgan.

Brother-Apothecary Abatur of the Vultures chapter:

gallery_103048_17086_72200.jpg

Of all the oaths of secrecy sworn by members of the Deathwatch, few are considered as sacred and carry with them the harshest of penalties as the oaths of the Apothecaries.

Space Marine Chapters do not lightly share the details of their gene-seed, with its associated traits, variations, and other manner of mutations, some even heretical. A Deathwatch Apothecary must master not only the secrets of their own genetic inheritance, but be able to monitor and maintain the implants of a myriad of other chapters drawn from the ranks of the Space Marine brotherhood.

gallery_103048_17086_85831.jpg

The greatest duty of a Deathwatch Apothecary must perform is the recovery of the gene-seed of a fellow battle-brother, so that it may be returned to his parent Chapter. It has been known for many a chapter to withhold their honor-bound service to the Deathwatch should too many of their brethren fall in service to the Ordos Xenos and their gene-seed irretrievably lost. Thus the survival of the Space Marine’s parent chapter and the reputation of the Deathwatch itself relies on the steadfast action of the Apothecarium.

gallery_103048_17086_90710.jpg

Marine Name: Brother Abatur

Duty Position: Phobos Infiltrator Apothecary, armed with bolt carbine and helix gauntlet

Chapter Name: Vultures (5th Company)

Successor of: Unknown 14th Founding Chapter, reports of Salamanders lineage are unconfirmed

Homeworld: Volturinus

gallery_103048_17086_58216.jpg

This mini is inspired by Kurgan the Lurker’s apothecary and wounded marine model/diorama from around 4th edition. That diorama is synonymous in my mind with “marine apothecary,” and I had a lot of fun putting my own version together!

The fact that the chapter is called the "Vultures" is also awesome due to the mental image of apothecaries scouring the dead bodies of their comrades across the battlefield to recover (see: scavenge) their geneseed!

gallery_103048_17086_189713.jpg

I didn’t have a way to make a vulture mask but felt the phobos-suppressor helm worked best for it. Had fun splicing together pieces from the phobos, eliminator, and reiver kits along with some cast bits to make him work.

gallery_103048_17086_192710.jpg

The "V" on his leg can call back to the chapter name, or alternatively his chapter company of origin (Vultures 5th Company).

Abatur is an angelic being of the Mandaeism religion, who is responsible for weighing the souls of the dead to determine their fate in the afterlife. Seemed a fitting name for an apothecary charged with extracting and safely transporting the gene-seed of departed brothers, ultimately returning their remains to their parent chapters.

Here he is next to my previous Apothecary from the Sons of Medusa chapter:

gallery_103048_17086_263933.jpg

Looking at the two of them together I realize that I forgot to do some dirt-drybrushing on the models feet and the dead marine on the base... will need to go back and fix that later!

Thank you Raziel!

Painting progress has stalled, but I converted up two phobos characters this week.

My phobos captain (from the phobos librarian) is inspired by Samurai Jack! Considering adding a sashimono for him:

Nice.

What Chapters did you plan to have them as?

Good question, I am planning to do the Librarian as a Rainbow Warrior, and felt the Lizardmen spear was a nice touch. Might paint the robe on his chest armor in rainbow colors too.

For the samurai I was thinking of a throwback fan-made chapter, the Jade Tigers. No lore on them sadly, just a solitary Golden Daemon entry from 2006, right about when I was entering the hobby. I remember really liking the color scheme of that chapter, and think his shoulder-icon will look good on this captain. Might also paint his robes a samurai-white instead of my usual brown?

More assembly, here is my second contemptor dreadnought:

gallery_103048_17086_152801.jpg

Can't say I am impressed with forgeworld's resin quality for this guy, but considering how many deathguard dreadnoughts I have seen out there I am guessing the casting mold has been used a lot!

gallery_103048_17086_183727.jpg

Had fun adding a few purity seals to the back, still need to add more details to the front like xenos skulls. The banner was fun too!

Here he is with the previous dreadnought:

Edit: also apparently this is my 500th post?!! :biggrin.:

Really love the work on the dread and congrats on reaching 500 posts. ;)

A slight suggestion for the Dreadnought trophy, add a collar or some sort of add mech tech to the necron.

Necrons teleport back to their tomb world when sufficiently damaged so the only way they could be stupid in lore was to keep their bodies in stasis fields.

You could likely diagnose a collar/hood or something and claim add mech innovation from Cawl , don’t have to of course but I though I would mention it as every necron player will mention it. Lol

Great point, I went back and added a few bits for a "control" device. Still waiting on the close combat arm from forgeworld, pretty sure it was forgotten. Going to wait another week as I got an email it was delivered yesterday, but has yet to arrive.

~~~
Finished up my next Captain, this one wearing gravis armor and with all the magnetized options.
gallery_103048_17086_9474.jpg
Watch Captain Zaid Nur’din earned his sobriquet of “the Butcher of Betolgeuse” during the massive hrud migration that swept through the Segmentum Obscurus in 101.M41, the same migration that saw the death of the Star Phantoms’ Chapter homeworld.
The temporal warp-rift that ravaged the Sakkara Sector and spilled through the worlds of Betol caused widespread devastation to the human populations in the region.
When Captain Zaid translated into the capitol system with his small contingent of Deathwatch marines and support craft, a glimmer of hope was reignited in the populace. Assuming command of the deteriorating situation, Zaid pragmatically ordered defenses mounted and regiments redeployed to key systems to stem the tide of the encroaching Hrud.
With a defensive diversion by the mortal soldiers of the planetary defense forces, Zaid along with his terminator and gravis-armored cohort conducted a coordinated assaulted on the hrud positions in the planet’s underhives, with the inferred intent of exterminating the infestation before it grew to critical mass.
gallery_103048_17086_167492.jpg
However unbeknownst to the mortal population of the sector, the Deathwatch and the greater Imperium had already written off Betolgeuse as a loss. Huge numbers of hrud had been detected in the warrens and tunnel networks between the capitol and member worlds as soon as the Deathwatch had arrived in the system, already nearing critical mass. Those numbers continued to swell by the day, attacks became more frequent against the human defenders, and it was only a matter of time before the entire sector imploded in temporal energies.
Captain Zaid’s true mission was simply to delay the inevitable, to postpone the imminent devastation of the sector long enough to conduct a raid deep into the hrud warrens. Several artifacts of stolen technology held by the xenos were recovered, as well as a huge amount of information and records liberated from the vast hrud data archives. The cost was only the sacrifice of an entire subsector’s human population, destroyed in the fires of Exterminatus as the temporal energies engulfed the planet, and just before the inquisitorial fleet translated out of the system. Though the abandonment of the Betol Sector was condemned by less radical members of the Ordos Xenos, ultimately the mission as undertaken was considered highly successful.
gallery_103048_17086_5556.jpg
Marine Name: Watch Captain Zaid Nur’din
Duty Position: Captain of Watch Company Primus (1st Company), Watch Fortress Sentinel IX
Chapter Name: Black Dragons
Successor of: Unknown (alleged to be Salamanders), 21st Cursed Founding
Homeworld: Fleet-based chapter
gallery_103048_17086_23009.jpg
So this guy was a real slog. I was super looking forward to putting him together, loved the assembly, but now that he is painted he is good enough but doesn't excite me as much as the other captains. I think it comes down to his pose, or rather lack thereof. Compared to the new gravis captain model (which came out after I originally built this guy) he is not very inspiring... but he is finished though!
gallery_103048_17086_245470.jpg
gallery_103048_17086_174881.jpg
He comes with all the gravis captain options: power sword, chainsword, heavy bolt rifle, and both arms can be swapped for full-blown aggressor mode, which is where the model comes from of course.
gallery_103048_17086_21936.jpg
The chainsword is a Space Wolf weapon:
gallery_103048_17086_13197.jpg
gallery_103048_17086_58141.jpg
Glad he is finished! Originally I was going to make this captain a member of the Crimson Fists, but ultimately decided on the Black Dragons instead. I still wanted the option for a Crimson Fist commander, so the heavy bolt rifle arm option kept that heraldry too.
gallery_103048_17086_176919.jpg
Hope you like how he turned out, when I finished my last captain (the samurai-jack conversion) I will have all four captains and the Watch Master complete!
Progress is slow but here are a few phobos armored marines (a phew fobos armored marines?).
gallery_103048_17086_263223.jpg
I am going to give the commo specialists orange arms to help them stand out. Likewise the helix adepts are getting some white armor, which is a complete pain to paint! Got a lot of smoothing out to do.
gallery_103048_17086_181383.jpg
In other news, I got a box of sword brethren for conversions and with extra bits I put together a new judiciar and a bladeguard veteran out of the last stormcast I had lying around.
gallery_103048_17086_207533.jpg
With the sword brethren box I was also able to assemble and paint something I had been thinking about for a long time...
gallery_103048_17086_175731.jpg
Brother Baldric of the Space Wolves is finally rocking dual lightning claws just like his Wolverine inspiration :biggrin.:
Pictures are fuzzy but glad I can check something off my bucket list :biggrin.:
Batch of nine eliminators is complete!
gallery_103048_17086_588292.jpg
Many individual pics to follow, starting with the new squad leader, Sergeant Maulgrian of the Blood Ravens:
gallery_103048_17086_154608.jpg
The temperament and proclivities of the Blood Ravens make Sergeant Maulgrian uniquely suited to service within the ranks of the Deathwatch. As much as the Ravens are known for bravery and combat efficiency, they are also renowned for their obsession with recovering lost information and technology. These Battle-Brothers have repeatedly shown a willingness to accept non-traditional techniques and extreme approaches so that some lost relic or tome could be recovered and secured within their vaults. Naturally, this means any Deathwatch Spectrus Kill Team can count a Blood Raven within its ranks as a valuable asset on any mission to recover xenos artifacts.
gallery_103048_17086_21805.jpg
Marine Name: Sergeant Maulgrian
Duty Position: Phobos Eliminator Sergeant armed with bolt sniper rifle and camo cloak
Chapter Name: Blood Ravens
Successor of: Unknown, theories abound of traitor Thousand Sons gene-seed origins
Homeworld: Formerly Aurelia, now fleet-based near the Aurelia Sub-Sector
gallery_103048_17086_172474.jpg
I had fun experimenting with the binoculars, and am happy they turned out good. I was inspired in the design by another painter whose name escapes me sadly.
gallery_103048_17086_181494.jpg
Since many of the eliminators have their shoulderpad and chapter heraldry covered up by their cloaks, I went ahead and added chapter heraldry on their kneepads instead. They are a mix of transfers for the really hard-to-paint symbols like this one, and some freehand for easier ones.
gallery_103048_17086_110680.jpg
Brother Oniwaban of the Koi Chapter:
gallery_103048_17086_104094.jpg
During the height of their chapter civil war, the warring clans within the Koi were known to regularly employ secretive cohorts of snipers to engage in what would be considered dishonorable, covert operations against enemy leaders. The downfall of the Utsurimono clan can be linked to one such successful operation, as marine agents from the Bekko Clan were able to strike downed the famed Utsurimono Shigen at the height of his power. Regardless of the hatred and loathing such despicable tactics engendered within the chapter, it is hard to argue their effectiveness, as they were crucial in bringing about an end to the centuries-long conflict. To this day the chapter deploys very few covert-trained operatives, but undoubtedly they remain a cornerstone to their behind-the-scenes strategies.
gallery_103048_17086_122803.jpg
Marine Name: Brother Oniwaban
Duty Position: Phobos Eliminator armed with bolt sniper rifle and camo cloak
Chapter Name: The Koi
Successor of: Unknown (secretly Emperor’s Children successors)
Homeworld: Edo, urbanized archipelago world
gallery_103048_17086_40888.jpg
Another marine from my homebrew chapter. Had fun painting the fish!
gallery_103048_17086_66200.jpg
Brother Dorgon Ru of the Azure Dragons:
As ordained by Nurhaci (first Chapter Master), the Azure Dragons maintain a battle force of eight banner-companies: four primary battle-companies and four reserve companies, all lead by “Iron Captains.” The chapter is further augmented by numerous formations of mortal Soldiers drawn from their homeworld population, eager to serve as auxiliaries in support of their demigod-masters.
Despite the large amount of manpower used in the Azure Dragons’ warmachine drawn from their homeworld, in recent days the undercurrents of rebellion have surreptitiously raised their heads from the bowels of the planet’s sprawling underhives. Whether this speaks to general discontent amongst the populace or some deep-seeded corruption at work remains yet to be seen…
The history of the rise of the Qing dynasty (and its later downfall) was one of the topics in history classes I really enjoyed, and after seeing this chapter I decided to throw one into my kill team. The chapter design is not mine of course (and I completely didn't realize I should have painted gold instead of yellow), and I made up some lore to go along with the design for this marine!
Brother Hadrian of the Sons of Orar:
gallery_103048_17086_140427.jpg
Orar is a mythical figure in the histories of the Space Marines, an Ultramarines Captain who won great renown in the wake of the Horus Heresy. Orar was known for striving to secure the Eastern Fringe against alien threats, ultimately falling in battle and entombed on Commranth, where a monument to him stands ever since as a reminder of his sacrifice and victory. He was initially entombed with many relics from his campaigns, one such relic known as the Sceptre of Galaxian later led to an Aeldari raid to recapture the xenos device. The incident known as the Battle for Orar’s Sepulchre led to the relic being recaptured by the marines and relocated to Macragge, to be defended within the heavily fortified court of Ultramar.
Thanks in part to their spiritual patriarchs’ glorioius history of defense and campaigns against the xenos threats of the galaxy, to this day the Sons of Orar consider it an honor to serve within the ranks of the Deathwatch.
It was nice to repurpose an Ultramarine transfer for this one, made the kneepad really easy to do.
Lastly for this squad is Brother Plissken of the Black Vipers:
gallery_103048_17086_107359.jpg
If the rumors are true, then it would not be the first time the Mechanicus have illegally created a Space Marine Chapter for their own use. What else explains the secrecy surrounding their creation? They only ever seem to deploy in concert with Mechanicus operations, and only then under the direct supervision of agents of Belisarius Cawl. Their primogenitors [the Salamanders] didn’t even find out about the Black Vipers until decades after the Indomitus Crusade had drawn to a close, and even them only by accident.
A little bit of tech-heresy on this guy, but he is modelled after Dave the Wargamer's conversion of a Black Viper. Biggest difference is I kept the las-fusil bits for my actual las-fusil eliminators (not finished yet).
The entirety of Squad Maulgrian:
