Ghost Thousand Sons Test Scheme

Following on from a recent ghostly discussion I thought I'd give it a go using blue rather than green so I'm now fishing for opinions (thanks to Lord Marshal for his pic advice!)

 

I'm not sure that it looks ghostly as much as just pale blue so I should paint the gun and metal areas as though they were metal.

It looks like a good start. :) Have you considered lightening the eyes up a bit? The dark red works as a good contrast, but it might benefit from being a bit lighter? (also, I don't know if it's worth using a Contrast paint if you haven't as these can allow you to get a bit of detail into the eye, instead of it being a flat tone)

 

I do think that it will look quite different once the base has been done. :)

I agree that making the gun match the rest would be good. Making the red less dark would help. I'd also make the runes in the bolter red. For both eyes and runes, you can use a red shade to make the area around them "glow" and I think you could tease the "glow" upward to make it look more like flickering ghostlight flames.

I like it!

I agree with the comments that a lighter red would be even better.

 

How did you paint it?

 

White spray undercoat, aethermantic blue straight from the pot then a heavy drybrush of corax white.

 

I've tried a venomstalker today but it doesn't work well on that so I doubt it would work well on forgefiends. Heldrake might be okay as it's flatter, but I don't think it would work on organic models like possessed/obliterators either. 

A Lord of Change could look pretty good.

I think the venom crawler looks ace and the thousand son reads as a ‘ghost’ - I’d even be tempted to keep the red just to eyes and drop the jewels. You can try sponging instead of dry brushing onto the large flat surfaces.

 

This will look amazing once based and as an army together. And is also a beautiful way of tying together the astartes and the daemons. More please!

I think they're looking really good.

 

I agree with the others about a brighter red for the eyes, and maybe go for a green on the gems instead of red, it'll make the eyes stand out more.

 

Biggest step next is to choose how to base them, that'll really determine the impact. I'd recommend either a deep desert ochre or a reddish brown mud.

 

Do either with a little bit of greenery on each base and then a light drybrush of black on the side(s) nearest the the miniature to show that the evil ghostiness is killing the plants.

Awesome, consider a brighter red, maybe even an orange (complimentary to the blue) for the eyes, if you want them firey - otherwise the normal ghostly glowy green would work to keep them cold looking.

Do you mind if I add this scheme to my index of alternative (easier to paint) Thousand sons schemes?

Hey this is so nice!

 

I've decided to run a quick and dirty test model and im impressed how nice it looks and how easy it is to do, I have still to tweak it to look more like the one you did but I think im in the right path!

 

Im tempted now to do a full ghostly Thousand Sons force leaving the sorcerers full painted and the dusty brothers ghostly

 

I've used the same paints as you except for the drybrush, that is white scar instead of corax white
