They always send out US preorders on or after release day, I've never seen them do otherwise.

Not true at all. Most recent example - they shipped me the Sigmar Dominion box Tuesday before release, I got it Thursday. Two days BEFORE the official release. And this was just a bit ago. They could have done better here.

I've never had that happen before. Maybe it's just they ship later to the Southeast.

I'll have to side with GW on this one, distribution is far from their fault alone. It could be any number of reasons why something is late. It could be GW, could be the supplier to their warehouse being late, could be the final transport company delivering to you.

You cannot believe anything when it comes to tracking from a transport company, from personal experience it is almost always not accurate at all. Maybe it tells you it was dropped off on Monday but it may have been handed to the transport company Friday and it was locked in a truck over the weekend because they had too much going on at their delivery hub and only scanned in the Monday morning.

I had something from Amazon last week that had a hold label on it to stop it arriving too early, it was supposed to be kept at the hub for two days more than it was. Transport is like the Warp, fickle and magical.

The UK has a seriously understaffed(Drivers) transport problem right now. When they are saying you can't get enough drivers to get bread to supermarkets then something is up.

This is very much the case - there have been shortages in shops for ages (and have been short haulage drivers for a few years - the current pandemic has just highlighted it). I also haven't had any post arrive for the last 5 days (I've got stuff that was posted end of last week that I'm still waiting for, so it's not like it's because I'm not due any msn-wink.gif) sad.png

As I said it maybe GWs fault but it could be as simple as store orders coming on a different service than the out of store deliveries(Probably a thing as its bulk). You have to remember GW do not have much if any sway with the delivery companies, they can't demand anything when it comes to delivery dates, they get told when it may turn up. UPS recently dropped the ball with regards to delivering the UKs contingent of the Nemesis board game(Hundreds of customers with hundreds of parcels), most parcels turned up 2-4 weeks late and the company Awaken Realms who sent the parcels, had absolutely no way to contact a human at UPS to sort out the problems. That's one of the board game industries big hitters and they didn't even have someone to say, "hey what's going on?". Unless you're Amazon, delivery companies don't really care if you take your business elsewhere, there's just too much demand right now and not enough supply.

GW could try to drop off their deliveries a few days earlier but UPS wouldn't accept them until the delivery window, UPS isn't going to store that stuff till the right day unless you are going to pay them a lot of money to do so. Not to mention the fact that anything could cause a delay along the whole chain that could last weeks.  Everything right now is showing how the transport industry is literally holding on by its finger tips.

About 15 years ago it took about a week to receive anything from even Amazon but now its two days at worst and over night is normal, the system that Amazon has pushed and created which the rest of retail has chased is a monumental undertaking and amazing but it is not completely solid when it comes to its foundations and its showing just a tad of weakness right now. Don't expect redundancy for "Just in time" delivery in the future, to stop this happening regularly, there is no profit in it.

The UK has a seriously understaffed(Drivers) transport problem right now. Your local deliveries might be on time but the big bulky stuff from warehouse to warehouse is delayed and will only get worse as we get closer to Christmas.

When they are saying you can't get enough drivers to get bread to supermarkets then something is up.

Mine hasn't even dispatched yet according to the GW website.. I'm a bit miffed that I could have gone to the store and bought it today, but instead I pre-ordered and now have to wait?!? seems a bit back asswards tbh.

Yeah mine is pending. I have never learned. I still order from GW and it always arrives late. I guess I had FOMO for the metal gauge or something.

This goes to a basic risk/gain analysis.

If you don't pre-order, you risk the store not having enough stock and then either missing out (if the run is limited) or having to wait longer to get it in a subsequent run.

If you do pre-order, your challenge is time. Sometimes you'll get the pre-ordered product on the first day (I've always received pre-ordered items on release day), but sometimes it takes longer. You're guaranteed to get the product eventually, though, which can be the primary benefit when a run is limited and in-store stocks run out.

I have such a backlog of unpainted plastic that getting a new product later than release day isn't an issue if I really want the product. So I'll pre-order a product if I really want it. If I don't want it bad enough (i.e., if I want it, but I don't think that I "need" it) and if the run isn't limited, I won't preorder it - I can decide to buy it when/if I see it in the store. The current world situation and challenges to logistics mean that we can't rely on more predictable historical patterns, so delays will remain likely until things settle down. All of this factors into my decision making, including the drawbacks of each decision.

My FLGS had copies on the shelf and in storage, but I didn't want either the DKoK or Ork models and I have plenty of terrain, so I passed on the box and just bought the books and essentials; and I could have done without the compendium, but they had one. I'm banking on replacement rules for factions further down the road, not including the bespoke faction rules that we're likely to be getting.

For those that actually purchased the box, either through GW pre-order or through their local game store (GW or non-GW), how do you feel about the contents?

For those that actually purchased the box, either through GW pre-order or through their local game store (GW or non-GW), how do you feel about the contents?

A friend of mine got his box a few days ago (preordered the first day). Kommandos and Kriegs are awesome kits full of character, but Krieg really needs a second box to reach his potential within the KT rules (Typical GW's sales tactics).

The terrain is the best ever released for KT. I am indifferent to the ork theme, but the structures are really flexible and well designed to make fair battle scenarios, with plenty of cover, inside areas, barricades, top firing points, etc. Good mix of solid first floor walls and see-throught. I already have plenty of terrain, but for an ork fan or somebody who hasn't any, this is a must have for KT/40k.

We played today a test game to learn the rules and our impressions are very positive. Fast and easy gameplay, with a lot of nuanced tactical decisions. We used to need to check the old rulebook and FAQ many times, but the new one was surprisingly smooth. A better sense of "fairness" with much less dice rolling and frustrating steps to solve situations.

I'd recommend everybody who likes 40k to test it, to me it really fullfils the promise of a skirmish game with 40k minis much better than the old edition.

We just picked ours up yesterday. It is the heaviest box I’ve ever bought from GW.

Ork and Krieg sprues are the most densely populated I’ve seen too. Since most of them have 2 build options, I’m really not sure what price the individual kits will be. I’m trying to encourage my son to sell on the Krieg and terrain because he’s blown all his money on this, but he really wants to keep that terrain. It does have a lot of character, lots of fun details. I just think we should be building our own!

At the FLGS other customers had cancelled their pre-orders leaving the shop carrying a lot of stock. Has this become a victim of its own hype in some way? It would be good if they push this in white dwarf and give us a kill team rules for some existing models - don’t really care which, just give us a bit more value.

I managed to get mine last Thursday, 2 days before official release date. It was from a third party retailer, but I'm surprised to hear people haven't gotten their pre-orders in time for the release date. That's a real shame.

I'm really happy with the contents. The box weighed a ton, which I suppose isn't a surprise given the amount of terrain in it, plus the models, books and other stuff.

I've built the orks so far. Main reason is that I think those are the most impressive models from the set; they are absolutely fantastic. But they're also the kill-team with the least decisions to be made. The only real choices to be made are what to arm the nob with and whether to build all the specialists or have extra standard boyz. Most of the models have two options; a specialist (e.g. dakka boy, burna boy etc.) or basic kommando with slugga/choppa. Two of the boyz have to just be basic kommando boyz, even if you build every specialist (I'm not sure why you wouldn't). You'll end up with 12 models at the end, including the grot and bomb squig.

I do have a couple of minor complaints. Firstly, the sprues for Orks are all over the place. This is likely in order to fit everything on the sprues, but it made building the first 4-5 models a bit of a pain because the parts for them were nowhere near each other. It obviously got easier as the models were built because there was less to search through. The second is that the instructions for the nob miss out a part when building the big choppa option; the wire that connects the axe to the backpack. The same part is shown used for the power claw, but the axe clearly has the connection for it too. The instructions also seem to suggest that arms will only fit specific bodies, but I was able to fit several different arms so there's quite a bit more interchangeability that the instructions suggest. As I said, only minor complaints though.

The Krieg kill-team is similar in terms of each model having options, but in many cases each model has three builds. There's just one that the instructions show only building a standard trooper. The Veteran Guardsmen fire-team has more specialist options and unlike the Kommandos you can't simultaneously build all of them from the box contents. For me this means a bit more planning to decide what I want most and work out if this is viable. I'm fairly sure the arms are interchangeable; probably more so than the Orks due to flat connection points between the arms and torso. Nevertheless there's choices to be made before starting to build the Krieg team. You also don't get enough models to use the full rules, because you can add an extra 4 troopers to the krieg fire-team but you can only build 10 models total. There is another support option though (basically various types of fire support) so it's not the end of the world.

Anyway, all in all I'm really happy with the contents.

Received mine on release day in the UK , no issues whatsoever via 3rd party supplier (elementgames) . Can assure you there’s no delivery issues or driver shortage lol. It’s just a lottery as to when you get it. (Ordered it with in seconds of preorder going live)

And remember preorders are first come first serve in the uk.it’s made to order and GW said you get it when you get it , even if it takes months but you will get it.

That terrain is very good for both KT and 40k. I'm seeing people selling it secon hand for around 50€ and is a total bargain compared to usual GW prices.

Today it's been announced that there's a new, smaller starter set (the same, minus most of the terrain) with the same DKoK and Kommandos inside. They're also releasing the kill teams themselves separately.

https://www.warhamme...tent=&utm_term=

I'm glad (though not exactly surprised, as it was always going to happen) that the DKoK are getting a separate release. You really need between 14-20 guys to make a roster for them, with all the options you have - especially since one of those is to bring 14 dudes!

I agonised about how to build my own 10 guys - and about which ones to not build. I haven't got a fanatic, demolition, bionic or melta in this team, yet. I'll definitely want some or all of those if playing them properly though.

51484006559_f0bdb66bb8_h.jpg

One slightly odd thing is that I have 0 guys whose job is to shoot people with lasguns. Only 4/10 of them even have lasguns and they're all likely to spend their time spotting, healing people or bashing things with a club (which is somehow better than a gun).

I swapped around a few of the bodies and sets of arms. You can get away with that on a few of these guys but not all of them. There's also only one of the right arm that fits the bolter, melta and plasma gun, which is kind of stupid - especially as there are three suitable left arms. I was able to cut up a lasgun arm for my plasma guy though.

The vague plan is to paint these up as Steel Legion. I've recently painted an 8th army force for Bolt Action, mostly using contrast paint, and I think this could work well. I might use the Caunter Scheme for the vehicles if this ever became an army.

Oh and I have sprues with no less than 11 lasguns on now. Pew pew!

From my experience so far, your spotter is not going to do that much spotting, and your demolition guy is not going to do that much demolition. So since they will mostly shoot lasguns I’m thinking of dropping them for the GA2 troopers. I haven’t tried a medic, zealot or bionic guy yet. You may want the melta - he puts the fear of the Emperor into those greenskins.

The price of this box will be interesting to see. It’s reasonable one might want another box of Guardsmen to fill out some extra choices for a 20-strong team. The Orks a little less so, maybe. I’m wondering if the starter box will be cheaper than buying both of those boxes individually.
