Calling the banners of the Knights of the Order!

Brothers!

A new edition of Kill Team is upon us. One which promises to give us a chance for more customized and personalized bands of battle brothers.

I see this as the perfect opportunity to take up the call for the Knights of the Order!! To form a Kill Team from the very best, the most devoted, and the most loyal battle brothers from across the First Legion.

I ask for information. Please, could you share with me your custom Successor Chapters? I intend to pick up a brush and form my knights, first and foremost, from the chapters we, as a community, have created.

Thank you in advance for any and all information, brothers.

I haven't done a model of them (yet), but I have a few successors, based on some of my 30k Praetors. The only one I've fully got ideas for is the following:

Northern Lions: Majority blue (Kantor Blue with Drakenhof Nightshade would be a good idea) armour, with bone/cream thigh and arms, use gold trim. Chapter symbol is a golden lion head on a blue field (think the gold lion head from the FW Transfer sheet, or something like the Celestial Lions'). Their elite formation, the Livgardet, instead has entirely blue armour with silver trim. In general a Combined-Arms force, with the Livgardet being the premier melee force of the Chapter.

I'll probably make an example model later if needed

Mourning Angels

Black and bone armour

Chapter Symbol: a skull with two DA sword X crossed behind the skull

Red leather robes for veterans

Under the bone colored helmet they have black tatooed head with a tattoed white skull on the face

They come from a Deathworld of swamps inhabitated by savage head hunter tribes

The chapter got this culture so they usually behead their enemies and use their skulls to show ranks

Veterans have a ritual knife on the belt that is used to kill captured enemies and cut their heads

The leather red robes are rumored to be made with the skins of the killed enemies and are colored red with their blood

They never negated these rumors cause they think they contribute to the fearsome reputation of the chapter

They are remorseless cold blood killers that get pleasure torturing and executing in brutal way the enemies of the imperium

They are inducted into the Unforgiven and the skull of a fallen is for them the most valuable trophy to exibit on their panoply

[Coolness]

I like the fluff, just one question:

When you say "Under the bone colored helmet they have black tatooed head with a tattoed white skull on the face" do you mean their skin is black, or they're tattooed black? Because the way it's worded now it could go either way.

Additionally, the reveal of the Stormdrake Guard models for AoS just reminded me of a hilariously dumb idea I had for a Dark Angels successor:

What if "Arthurian Knights in Space, but with dragons?".

I'll get to work on that chapter now

Mourning Angels

I love the lore presented for this chapter. Thank you, Master Sheol. I shall see about finding a place for them in the ranks of this kill team.

I submit my Heralds of Devastation, for the Lion and the 1st

Another close combat successor that must be honored! I shall see if the rules for this new kill team edition allow for so many close combat specialist chapters, but one way or the other, I shall honor the chapter by including them in the kill team.

Boarding and planetary assault specialists?? Excellent! A fine addition to the Knights of the Order they shall make.

(funny thing, my Wings of Dawn share the same warcry with the Lightbringers! :O)

Can't wait for the edition to release, so i can start seeing about how the Knights shall be organized.

(funny thing, my Wings of Dawn share the same warcry with the Lightbringers! :ohmy.:)

"Inquisitor, you think our brave chapter-brothers were killing soldiers loyal to the Emperor?"

"The reports say there were Space Marines where yelling, 'fiat lux,' and shooting witnesses while dragging off another Space Marine!"

"Ohhhh, that must have been the [Lightbringers/Wings of Dawn]; they have the same battle cry as us and are totally shady. You should check them out, Inquisitor. They're on the other side of the galaxy"

And the inquisitor went to do so and disappeared somewhere along the way, and their insane ramblings about the Unforgiven was never to be heard again.

The shave their heads and they tattoo all head black leaving a withe skull motif on their face... like this was a ritual painting but tattoed to be permanent

"And he was never seen nor heard from again" is the most Dark Angel ending a story could ever have <3

I realized I've got the image showing the Northern Lions and their Livgardet force:

Normal brother:

Livgardet force:

Colour scheme reference:

  • Blue Armour: Kantor Blue base, recess shade with either Nuln Oil/Drakenhof Nightshake/Ultramarines Blue, highlights of Alaitoc Blue>Teclis Blue (modified "Royal Blue" paint swatch on the Citadel Colour section)
  • Cream Armour: Rakarth Flesh, shade with Seraphim Sepia, highlights of Pallid Wych Flesh>White Scar (Bone White paint swatch on the Citadel Colour section)
  • Standard for the Gold and Silvers
  • Gold: Retributor Armour, shade with Reikland Fleshshade, highlights of Auric Armour Gold>Stormhost Silver (Adeptus Custodes Armour paint swatch on the Citadel Colour section)
  • Silver: Leadbelcher, shade with Drakenhof Nightshade, highlights of Ironbreaker>Stormhost Silver (Grey Knights Armour swatch paint swatch on the Citadel Colour section)

EDIT: Also have another successor, this one's inspiration should be obvious, the Lion's Hussars (name is an early draft):

Their whole shtick is that they're a Second Founding successor (much like the Northern Lions), but were derived solely from a Ravenwing formation, so they kept to the original manner of the Ravenwing, not just "all bikes, all the time". So they're mounted cavalry (bikes, speeders and aircraft) but also reconnaissance and orbital drop assaults*. So in a Kill-Team experience, this chapter would be best as an Infiltrator/Incursor/Eliminator because I doubt the Outriders will be available

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/sm/bpe=991115&bpj=991115&bp=991115&bpc=991115&hdt=B5B5BD&hdm=B5B5BD&hdl=B5B5BD&ey=63B521&er=B5B5BD&pi=393939&nk=B5B5BD&ch=B5B5BD&eg=E7BD42&sk=E7BD42&abs=B5B5BD&bt=B5B5BD&cod=991115&ull=991115&lk=991115&lll=991115&lft=991115&url=991115&rk=991115&lrl=991115&rft=991115&slt=E7BD42&sli=FFFFFF&srt=E7BD42&sri=FFFFFF&ula=991115&lel=991115&lla=991115&lw=991115&lh=991115&ura=991115&rel=991115&rla=991115&rw=991115&rh=991115&bg=FFFFFF&rb=393939&gr=393939&wg=true&mk6=true&aq=true&mk6kn=true&bpr=E7BD42&cs=E7BD42&/spacemarine.jpg

Symbol would be like this:

710x528_32017238_16949050_1593805945_102

But Red on a white field

Colour scheme reference:

  • Red Armour: Mephiston Red base, recess shade Agrax Earthshade/Flesh Tearers Red, highlights of Evil Sunz Scarlet>Wild Rider Red
  • Gold: Retributor Armour, shade with Reikland Fleshshade, highlights of Auric Armour Gold>Stormhost Silver (Adeptus Custodes Armour paint swatch on the Citadel Colour section)
  • Silver: Leadbelcher, shade with Drakenhof Nightshade, highlights of Ironbreaker>Stormhost Silver (Grey Knights Armour swatch paint swatch on the Citadel Colour section)

In case this chapter's inspiration wasn't obvious:

* TL;DR: Ravenwing with Raven Guard

Also, this gives me an idea. I liked what I saw with the new Emperor's Champion on Monday. But I don't want to do two primarily black-armoured Space Marine armies for 40k (my Firstborn in my Dark Angels are primarily 30k, and I painted my Primaris to match).

I'm thinking I'm going to pull a Valrak, strip all my Dark Angels Primaris that are painted currently (or a majority of them) and repaint them in the successor chapters' schemes, including the homegrown chapters from Bolter & Chainsword and my 40k Dark Angels will be the First Legion reborn. Possibly the right shoulder could be the OG Dark Angels symbol and scheme.

Should any other chapter choose to answer the call, I will update my roster here and pick up the task of inducting one of their battle brothers into the Knights of the Order.

For now, this will give me a good few days of work, which is a good start.

I would like to but any joy I had for DA was pretty much destroyed...

It might change but not sure.

If you play a custom successor share it anyway!

Also, since this idea of the Knights of the Order first came to me from jbaeza94, I'll try and honor him with two brothers, one from each cohort of his Legion of the Iron Lions.

Thank you, brother!

I hope I can do right by these chapters, and make a good kill team with them. I'll try to get into it soon after the book becomes available.

Wow, so, my gaming group shared this video with me and it seems that, at least for now, Kill Team is really just meant for the two factions in the boxed set that they are releasing. All other factions just get generic fire teams, with generic units, that have no specialisms, no battle field roles, no abilities or special rules. Marines, also, must all be taken from the same type of unit at the same time, so no mixing intercessors with tacticals with scouts, for instance.

THis is just a "here is five marines of <insert type here> that are all armed the same, and do nothing but move, shoot and attack" type of deal.

Since the game does not allow to make any specialists like snipers, comms operatives, veterans, close combat specialists, or anything like the old Kill Team or like the specialists you get for the Krieg Veterans or the Ork Komandos of the Octarius Box, the whole idea of making a new Kill Team loses its purpose. After all, what would be the point of making just 5 generic intercessors, or reivers, or tactical marines, or whatever, and with no personality. Without anything making any one of them stand out, or even being able to mix and match types of marines inside the same fire team.

I'm sorry to say, but I think this kinda tanked my desire for bringing together this chapters.

I believe I'll have to place this entire idea on hold, until such a time when marines get rules that make give entire effort purpose again.
