I’m sure threads like these come along every so often. In preference order her is my top 10 wishlist for revamped / new 40k armies. I’m confident we will see at least some of these in time to come and will be amazing. (Templars were on my list but they’re coming soon now we know)

1. Eldar exodites

2. Adeptus arbites

3. Squats

4. World eaters

5. Eldar corsairs

6. Traitor guard

7. Emperors children

8. Dark mechanicum

9. Ynaari

10. Tau auxiliaries

What would others like to see?

World Eaters

Revamped Guard infantry

Traitor Guard

Dark Mechanicum (provided it’s not just daemon engines)

Possibly a non-imperium independent human faction

A new/old Xenos threat that’s never been fleshed out like cypher fiends or similar

Speaking of Cypher I think GW missed the opportunity to do something really unique and exciting with the Fallen so I wish they’d revisit that.

I think the game’s got a glut of codexes now, but I’d like to see World Eaters and Emperor’s Children. I’d buy a dark mechanicum army if the models look good. I don’t like half the current mechanicum models.

1. Kroot

2. Kroot

3. Kroot

4. Kroot

5. Kroot

6. Kroot

7. Kroot

8. Kroot

9. Kroot

10. Kroot

Hold on, I got this. I speak Kroot.

A brave choice with Squat Eldar Hybrid at number 2, though fairly reasonable 5 however I don't think Drukari are cool with necrons for that and number 7 certainly got me.

1. World Eaters and Emperor's Children (you can't leave one of the four out in the cold)

2. T'au auxiliaries, including Kroot, Vespid and Demiurg

3. Da Great Grot Revolushun!

4. Some kind of Necron ally (like GSC are for Nids)

5. Lost and Damned (including Dark Mech and Tyrant's Legion style CSM-led traitor guard)

6. Ynnari with a few Corsair and Exodites options

Imperial guard

Eldar

Imperial guard

Tau aux

Imperial guard

Tyranids

Imperial guard

Imperial Guard Eldar is quite amusing, as is the Imperial Guard Tau. However I am a bit bemused by the Imperial Guard Tyranids...how would you lore that?

Also, seems you didn't complete your post, Imperial Guard what? Let me guess, Imperial Guard Custodes?

Sorry. Had to.

My top ten:

1 &2) World Eaters and Emperor's Children are tied first place to round out and complete the Pantheon (plus that should mean a 40k Angron & Fulgrim, right?)

3) Craftworld Aeldari need to be next, with a full revamp of their ANCIENT aspect warrior kits.

4) I'd like to see Tau and their auxiliaries (gue've'sa were cool!) - including Kroot of all varieties.

5) Tyranids need a new codex - and with that most of the major factions will have been covered (as we know that Orks, GK and TS are on their way).

Then we get some actual new/restored old stuff back:

6) with the advent of plastic Kriegers (never thought I'd see those!), the rest of the metal/resin-only guard need some love too. Vostroyans, Valhallans, Tallarns, Mordians, Elysians (maybe with greater overlap with Scions?), Attilans (Rough Riders with Tallarn get-up would work well with the whole "Lawrence of Arabia IN SPAAAAACE vibe), the Steel Legion... (Praetorians? :P). Moar variety in the guard is better. Which actually plays nicely into...

7) Lost and the Damned - would would need to be a super flexible list or even several possible lists. You should be able to work like GSC do (cultists with the addition of traitor guard) or more of a Tyrant's Legion style (more of an auxilia to Chaos Space Marines, with the possibility of being relatively well-equipped) or an out-and-out baying mob of heretics and mutants, maybe also beastmen? Some Chaos Marine factions should synergise with these (looking at you Alpha Legion and Word Bearers, maybe Abaddon's Black legion being able to just churn turn them out, and Iron Warriors using them as cheap labour and meatshields, and of course the Death guard and their poxwalkers). If Chaos Space Marines still have access to cultists then these can form something of an overlap with the factions. More varied plastic guard would synergise nicely with these as kits (MIX AND MATCH GALORE!)

8) Dark Mechanicum - Chaos AdMech with daemon engines, overlap with Chaos Knights, and maybe some scrapcode shenanigans?

9) Squats. Give me Space Dwarfs again. Not just a one-off necromunda model and the odd hidden reference in a rulebook but also... yes. I just want them represented in universe properly.

10) Agents of the Imperium - including the (re?) introduction of Adeptus Arbites, who I SWEAR once had a ruleset. Put them back in (again, could synergise with some new guard plastic kits) - and with that the Custodes 9th Edition Codex also in tow (maybe fold them in together? Or not?).

Hmmm, let's see.

1. Imperial Guard

2. Imperial Guard

3. Imperial Guard

4. Imperial Guard

5. Imperial Guard

6. Imperial Guard

7. Imperial Guard

8. Imperial Guard

9. Imperial Guard

10. Imperial Guard

Yep, I'm fully confident that's what I want. Nothing else comes to mind.

If I had an 11th option, I'd say Imperial Guard.

What about Astra Militarum?

Astra miliwhat?

I think for growth, we won't see the kind of curveballs that AoS gets; 40k is well established, and you can see from everyone's lists they include a lot of similar factions.

What I would offer instead is a list of probabilities;

Likely Factions

- World Eaters

- Emperor's Children

- Traitor Guard/Lost and the Damned

WE and EC are the other half of the pantheon which has already seen some love, and nothing sells like Space Marines - I consider them a matter of when not if. Traitor Guard have some scattered model support already, and have waffled in-and-out of existence via GW and FW rules since 3rd edition. Sooner or later they'll get packaged up into a faction like GSC with some infantry kits and upgrades for Guard units, with a handful of their "own thing" on top of.

Possible Factions

- T'au Auxiliaries. GW is big into subfactions right now, and T'au are the grandaddies of distinct sub factions. Vespid, Kroot, Guevesa, Demiurg, etc - there's a lot of room for GW to be creative and build the T'au into a bigger, more diverse faction, and there already is some model/rules support. This could be as small as an upgrade kit for Cadians and a WD article, or using Kill Team to build out the Kroot/Vespid/others into fulsome factions.

- Alternate Guard Regiments. Prior to plastic DKoK I'd say this is a longshot, but the Guard regiment diversity was a staple of older editions, and we've got plastic shovelbois on the way. With plastic model production clearly more economical than ever before, revisiting old regiments or adding new ones could very well be on the table.

- Eldar Exodites/Corsairs. Eldar are comically overdue for a model refresh, and building a new subfaction would be an ideal time to slide in a few updated aspect warriors alongside (like what Orks are getting alongside the Snaggas). There's an in-universe precedent, and Exodites in particular could allow for some really funky models with their fluff appearances involving dinosaur analogues with Eldar guns strapped to them.

Maybe Some Day

- Dark Mechanicum. They've got a big lore presence, but Chaos is already pending some pretty likely expansions over the next few years, so I wouldn't put any money on the least developed aspect of Chaos getting TLC anytime soon. If FW hadn't imploded, 30k moving along and producing some proper Dark Mechanicum models might have spurred something, but said dream is quite dead.

- Squats. It's not happening guys. GW has gone to great lengths to move past "fantasy, but in space" and war-trike riding space dwarves just ain't coming back. Might see the odd model, like how Necromunda got 2, especially if Kill Team takes off and follows the model of Warcry, but I just don't see another Imperial faction somewhere between Guard and Marines coming out.

- Rogue Traders/Other Minor Imperial Factions. Kill Team will likely give us a number of new smaller Imperial groups suited for that format, but 40k proper has moved away from weird representations of factions which really don't do company-style warfare. Hell, FW lists "Rogue Trader Militant" as a faction in their first 30k book, but there's been something like 3 US Presidential Elections, several wars and whole new countries come into existence since then and not a peep.

- New Xeno Race. GW hasn't added a new mainline faction since the T'au when I was still in elementary school - my take is GW is treating 40k as something to build upon what is already there, and AoS is where they're really throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. Every release since GW revamped its marketing and game structure beginning in 7th edition has been on expanding or better representing well known and loved factions. The real "growth" of the universe is coming from board games, novels, video games and so on - so at best we'll maybe see some more one-offs like the Spindle Drones, the Zoat and so on as more products like those they were a part of roll out.

Imperium?

Imperial Agents Codex (not just Assassins, but add in):

- Adeptus Arbites units: I doubt there's enough for an entire army of them. Maybe a handful of characters, and a few actual units.

- Astra Telepathica units

- Navis Nobilite

- Rogue Traders units

Basically any specific characters or units from organisations that could be expected to be seen in nearly any Imperial force. Adepta Sororitas, Adeptus Mechanicus, etc would all use Astropaths for example they shouldn't be limited to just the Imperial Guard.

Inquisition Codex (could be combined with the Imperial Agents Codex):

- Inquisition units: Yes, let's just combine them all into a single codex.

- Inquisitorial henchmen units: Bring them all back from the old Daemon Hunter and Witchhunter codex (except for the Adepta Sororitas and Grey Knights) . So let all Imperial factions choose between Arco-flagellants, Crusaders, Death Cult Assassins, Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, Ministorum Priests, Missionaries, Preachers, Tech-priest Enginseers, etc. The Tech-priest Enginseer would be the same as the Guard one rather than the Ad-Mech one and they'll be able to repair any <Imperium> vehicle.

Ab-Human Codex:

- Beastmen

- Bullgryns

- Ogryn Heavy Weapon Squad: Has heavy stubbers, can take autocannons. Maybe even something like the Orks new thudd gun.

- Ogryn Infantry Squad: Typical Ogryns with ripper guns.

- Ratling Infantry Squad: With lasguns instead of sniper rifles.

- Ratling Snipers

- Ratling Special Weapon Squad: The same as the Guard unit type but with Ratlings.

- Squats: A glorious return with many returning units redone with modern plastic sculps.

There's tons of room for additional Ab-human races as well.

1. Eldar Exodites (but I want really good dinosaur designs based on modern reconstructions)

2. Emperor's Children

3. Inquisition

4. Interex (I'm not as clued into Heresy lore but I don't think they've been wiped out)

5. Kroot Mercenaries

6. Legion of the Damned

7. Traitor Guard

8. Imperial Agents/Rouge Traders

9. Farsight Enclaves (as a faction distinct from Tau with some their own, unique units)

10. Ynnari (as something more distinct than eldar soup. Unique units etc)
