Our gaming group has begun a crusade and have gotten the first couple of odd kinks out in the first two weeks, so now I'm comfortable starting to share the results and narrative were(I'm) attaching to it. We started at 500pts, but those are really too small for what we like so shifted to 1000pts. In august were going to 1500pt games, then September 2000pt games. We have a few players who cant make every week so we will also keep running smaller games too when we can. So here is the set up.

 

War has desecrated the once beautiful and proud city of Vesaria. The conflict in the sky started as a fiery and intense flickering of lights in the night as the Death Guards fleet smashed the small picket fleet of the planet. It looked as if stars were dying as they were swept away. Next an artificial rain came as debris mixed with drop pods blanketed the skies above Vesaria, overwhelming the surprised PDF air force sent to deal with it. And they began amassing on the outskirts of the city, readying rituals to bring forth demons and other foul things to desecrate the entirety of Vilka and in a centuries' old plots. 

While debris rained around it the massive forge-tower that was at the center of Vesaria erupted into violence. Waves of skitari protected shrouded priests who led their charges into the maze of tunnels beneath the city. As a last act of spite, they disabled the sacred forge itself, stealing away its core and releasing its massive energy reserves. The spire itself was toppled in this petty strike, waking the entire planet to the dire situation in the north. They have since retreated into the depths again, leaving the mark of the dark mechanicum once again. 

In the hills and forests to the east of the usually disparate bands of orks had already begun to gather together around a new warboss. He shouted his boys awake, taking those closest to him on battered trukks revving the engines in the night air. The rest of his boys would come soon, after the weird boys finished Gork and Morks rituals, but he needed to get stuck in now! 

The newly founded VIlkan 9th and 10th infantry regiments have been dispatched north to deal with the invading forces in the north. Task force “Swarming Thunder” has been dispatched to investigate the enemy presence in Vesaria and to bring it under control. His newly founded infantry is backed by the veteran forces of the disbanded 2nd armored sent to assist as a final act before the regiment will be decommissioned. 

On planet for a resupply the blood angels have sent a force to investigate the rumors of dark astartes presence on the planet. While an entire company is on planet, only a few were sent to investigate the reports. They have orders to prevent the spread of any contagions, and purge the entire area if necessary to save the planet. 

Skirmishes have broken out between these forces already, with some outright battles beginning to take shape in the outskirts of the city. Most civilians have evacuated and shelling has left much of its rubble, but the forces of chaos have nefarious plans for Vesaria and imperial forces shall attempt to deny them. Rumors of further escalation abound as well. Dark Eldar and Tau craft have been seen in system, observing the conflict for their own purposes. The hospitaller order of sororitas is debating taking arms. A hail has been sent to a nearby white scars patrol. The conflict over Vilka is only in its beginning phases.

 

So right now the main armies who have played are Astra militarum(Me), Deathguard/nurgle daemons (B ), Dark Mechanicum(L), Orks(S). We have a blood angels(JS) player who is sick and only got one game in but is coming back and another player starting tomorrow who will be orks(JK) too. We may have a dark eldar (A) player join or Sisters of Battle (S) but not sure. We also have a tau player trying to join but the gods of schedule have been cruel.

 

The rest of us have 4 games a peace under our belts so have a few cool tricks up our sleeves. L has worked to make the superweapon in his crusade options, while B and S have created murder machine characters. I spent alot of my early RP filling my list with spam so am just starting to add in more relics.

Going to play another pair of game tomorrow so should be fun. The ork codex dropping will update things, but we figure it'll be grandfathered in whatever points they were for the total list and adjusted for the games. if other stuff comes up so be it, its a game well figure it out.

 

So we have between 4 and 9 players for our crusade and I'm looking forward to playing and updating you all on it. Ill take some pictures of either glorious victory or valiant defeat for a proper battle report tomorrow. We may also do a big 2v2 game as well have 2 ork players and the 2 chaos players, and if we do Ill sit on the sidelines and do the battle report for that one.

So game day didn't go as planned. We were waiting for people and played a pickup game before that ran way to long and didn't get to any crusade games played that day, but we rescheduled for the next day so no harm done yet. Played a quick game against admech adding a vindicare and raising points before. I won the game, but forgot to take any pictures. It was a recon game and I won by keeping him pinned in his table quarter and stopping him from getting any points there. His flyer proved to be a problem flying around bombing stuff, but dropped the ball at the 1 yard line, failing to do any bomb wounds to stop a recon and 0 stubber wounds to kill the quad mortar. The vindicare came in clutch as it got a recon and popped both his manipulators and warlord.

 

Game two was going to be a 2v1 choas v imperial. I raised points to 2k and added 2 hellhounds (woe to me) to bring myself to a total force of 2k. We set up on a narrow board plague zombies and marines in front and rangers and vangiard posted on a tower overlooking the null zone that was the objective. I set up a defense in depth with the hellounds and sentinels up front and tanks hiding to pop out if i didn't get first turn and all my indirect stuff back in a corner. He was able to zip the bomber around and decimated a squad of infantry before lighting up the quad mortar and killing it. All the skitari then proceeded to kill every tank in the army visable, blowing up both hellhounds shredding the center of my army. All told between shooting, explosions, and rout checks I lost nearly 600 points in the first turn. My return fire killed a 15 zombies and the flyer in return. turn two started and they were at 40 something points to my 5 and it was over as he outnumbered me already and all his troops were in the objective area.

B; Death guard and nurgle daemons. Highlights are the plague marine squad that has leveled up twice (ignore cover at half and +1 to hit) and his axe wielding warlord who loves to run up on tanks and can opener them.

 

L;Dark Ad mech Masses of skitari backed by a bomber and onager has worked well for him. Everything pulls its weight but nothing stands out. Last game he finished his crusade creation so worried to see how that plays next game.

 

S;Orks his keys are the two huge mobs of boys and stormboys he pins armies between. Da jump shoves the whole stack of boys turn one and then the warboss hunts any melee threat.

 

Js:Blood Angels The dreadnuaght holds it down with the captain, but the assault intercessors and outriders have mostly died.

 

Im going to rework a bit. The earthshaker has disappointment every time its been brought and the hellhounds were actively harmful. The quad has been amazing but is a super hard focus now, so probably going to replace the earthshaker with another quad. Going to get another throw away sentinel too to make the brigade work if needed and take another tank commander or russ in their place. going to have to be over a couple games as I only have two RP right now. Or I could get a tank hunting sentinel squad. 3 armored ones with lascannons, have people had luck with that?
