The Book of Fire Thread

Recommended Posts

I just picked up my copy of the Book of Fire, and I love it!

Caveat: I bought PA Faith and Fury in E-Book format, and since I only read E-Books on computers (because buying an E-Reader, a device which does exactly ONE job, is STOOPID in a world where most people have computers, which can do EVERYTHING), the thing was pretty much illegible. So this is the first time I've been able to actually READ the expanded Chaos rules.

Because they release a Crusade Mission Pack along with the BoF, it may have been a better place for Crusade specific content... But the content itself is great. I love the Tarsus fleet roster information; I like the fact that Morvenn is in charge of a multi-order force, as an Abbess/ Supreme Commander should be! I love that one of the relics in the OoOML supplement is a holler back to Saint Praxedes.

I can't wait to start Crusading here; heroic achievements and grudges are very cool.

And all of this, just from a quick skim!

So, is anyone planning on running a campaign with BoF? Did anyone else buy it? And what are your thoughts?

Interested to see a lore summary, the first book was pretty good.

I think ebook readers are really good at their one job, FWIW. Besides a few nice physical books I've bought, I'm fully transitioned into ebooks and after seeing my wife's kindle I want one. Hard to read a on my phone without constant distractions form said phone.

I may eventually cave in and get one, for all the whining I do. Sometimes, you've got to join them to beat them... I'm just an old dog... I believe the term gronard?

As for lore, came across a new gem today- just a tiny mention: SoB from the Tarsus fleet arrived in Piety Class Cruisers and deployed in Landing Cathedrums. No pics, and light on details, but it's got me thinking. I suspect it's going to highlight my frustration with the Indomitus Crusade Fleet rules in this month's Dwarf- there are rules for Marines, Admech and a couple of other Imperial factions in the Crusade Fleet, but it didn't sound like there were any for sisters. Odd, given that they've just confirmed again that Sisters were a part of the Fleet.

:laugh.::smile.: Personally, I prefer paper books but don't have the space for them, unfortunately. I have a Kobo e-reader, because I find the e-ink screen is easier on the eyes than the LCD of a tablet, and the battery lasts way longer. I'd say if you're able to get to a shop and try out an Amazon Kindle or Kobo device, it's worth trying one before buying to see if it's something you'd get on with. :smile.:

N.B. The e-book readers will only work with the novels, not the codexes, as they're the wrong type of e-book. Black Library provide both epub (standard format) and mobi (Kindle format) when you buy from them, Kobo only provide the epub format, and Amazon only provide the Kindle format. I'm pretty sure Calibre can do a decent job of converting between the epub and mobi formats, if needed.

I believe the word you're looking for is "grognard" :smile.:

The White Dwarf rules are for Torchbearer fleets rather than crusade fleets. They were the groups sent out ahead of the crusade fleets to reinforce the exsisting marine chapters, usually just composed of Custodes, Mechanicus specialists, and Primaris greyshields. Full Indomitus crusade rules for crusade would be brilliant though.

The snippet about Piety class cruisers is intresting. Possibly indicating that the Ecclesiarchy and/or the sisters have their own navy these days.

That’s not surprising, the 8th edition Sisters codex also indicated that the Ecclesiarchy maintains a fleet to ferry their assets around. I really hope we see a good explanation for this, as it’d really help those of us who like lore writing our force to flesh out our fleets.

Also, Sisters in future BFG? Yes!
