Battlesector

I can't see a thread, but feel free to point me in the direction of one if there is!

1st impressions are pretty good. Not keen on the marine voice acting, but the female narrator at the start of the campaign was spot on.

I've only done the first two missions so we'll see how it goes, but the skirmishes seem set up to be able to play a 3000 point battle between BA and the nids so I'll have a go at that over the weekend.

We'll see how it goes I guess!

I'm pumped for this game. Played the demo on PC and was quiet pleased with it, but my PC is to old to run this with a good framerate. So now I'm sitting here and wait for the console release. Unfortunately they only said that the console release will follow soon. Knowing the video game branch soon can mean a lot of things :(

Gameplay is okay, voice acting a bit...unfamiliar if one is used to how marines sound in DOW. Graphics are serviceable, while the models basically look like the real models.

What I find very lackluster is the presentation of the story. There are no cinematics of any kind. Not pre-rendered, not done with game graphics, none. Everything is presented via static images and some voice acting.

I'd understand that if the game was geared towards multi-player with more than 2 factions, but as a story-based game I have come to expect some sort of cinematography to illustrate what's happening.

Battlesector is exceeding my expectations in general. I was expecting the story campaign to go quickly with only 20 missions, but after the first couple and the points cap goes over 1100, the missions are nice and long, and the unit variety and numbers make for really fun and rewarding tactical play.

Most fun so far: hand flamer + krak grenade assault marines

Least fun: when Exocrines obliterate five marines in a single shot

Honourable mention: Libby dread.

Dishonourable mention: frag cannon doesn't work like that in fluff. I want my space shotgun mech ; )

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

The campaign only feels long because they unnecessarily padded out the missions with endless enemies until the objective is reached. Then it's always kill all enemies, which also takes ages, because most weapons don't do a lot of damage and you can't do very much about it. While the core game loop itself is kinda fun, if very repetitive, it feels like the skeleton of a game. It lacks so much in the mood/atmosphere department. Very sterile.

I've not completed it yet, maybe half way through, but so far mission variety is very disappointing.

It is also completely 'opaque' for ppl not familiar with the setting. You don't know who you are, who the enemy is, what has happend previously. Somebody who has read the 'Devastation of Baal' can fill in the blanks, but everyone else is left hanging.
