++Scythed Hierodule++

LvLnMIE.jpg

We have a new unit of the week! Having already discussed all units in the standard codex, we're moving on to Forge World datasheets. This week it's the massive point beast the Scythed Hierodule.

What are you thoughts, and how best would you use it?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the beta rules affect your list(s)?
  • What size unit? Will you be running multiple units?
  • What Hive Fleet Traits, Adaptative Physiologies and Stratagems do you prefer and how much does it depend on the above choices?
  • Are you buffing this unit? If so, how?
  • Uses in Matched, Narrative and Open Play

Over to you.

Before the Dimachareon points increase, I used to run 3x Scythed Hierodules as Kraken. They are fun but difficult to maneuver around heavy terrain boards. They aren’t the powerhouses that they used to be, but they do their job. however they do compete with other better Heavy Support choices in our arsenal as a lot of others have pointed out.

Malanthropes, Venotheopes, and Maleceptors help keep these boys alive since they are 18 wound models that don’t benefit from cover, but since they are no longer titanic lords of war malanthrope can play a role if you like em.

Dermic Symbiosis help keep them alive. Voracious ammunition is kinda nice, but I feel the others are a wash for them.

Leviathan is nice as a Hivefleet, but I like Kraken the most. There are strats that help you like fight again and the one that re rolls wounds, but those can be spent elsewhere.

All in al for the point cost they are worth like 2 1/2 Carnifex brood with less wounds but better punch tbh. That’s my two cents.

I'm working on kitbashing a Hierodule (of the scythed variety)- I'm very glad they've been made Heavy Support now and reckon they could be seriously scary with the right support. My Fleet uses Metamorphic Regrowth, which combined with maybe Dermic Symbiosis would make for a seriously tough customer.
