The Storm follows us: Brother B's White Scars

Well, I decided to make a small White Scars army. This is a great chapter, I'm surprised there's not more activity on the forums but I understand they are not one of the more popular or widely known chapters.

I'm preparing a 500 point army for an upcoming slow growth league our group will be playing. Here is one of my first, a White Scars Assault Intercessor. I'll likely go heavy infantry. I'll work through some units and then post my first list. The league will grow to 2000 points which means I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

All 10 of my first batch of assault intercessors. I'll have another 5 and with those I plan on spicing up the models a bit.

I'm going to use some of the upgrade options from the upgrade sprue, and probably make a couple of alternative sgt. builds with thunderhammer/power sword. I also like the power first option but don't have any of the bits for that.

Looking good, Thunder Hammers are DEFINITELY worthwhile on your Sergeants, I'd take them over Power Fists every time, especially with White Scars the bonus to AP and Damage once into Assault Doctrine is brilliant.

If you haven't already got the format laid out for your "slow grow campaign" then the Crusade format is great and you can get some really fun upgrades out of it. It also adds more of a "my guys" feel than just playing slightly bigger games each month.

Thanks Rik! We’re slow growing it from 500-1000. At 1000 we’ll start the crusade.

Those thunder hammers are amazing for sure. I wish I could take one on my primaris captain. That would make an undeniably powerful beat stick.

As it is my Sgt will hide in the pack ready to smash!

If you're going to do Crusade I'd suggest starting with it. Just halve the initial resources to 25 Power Level lists with 3 Requisition.

I've converted up my Marine Captain with Primaris bits among others. But he's still a Firstborn Captain with Jump Pack and Relic Blade.

Beautiful work!

I love the battle damage (mine are really dinged up). I agree the army is really undervalued, underloved. It's just so much fun to play and their background is written by some of the best authors in the 40K universe imo.

I would recommend assault bolters though... great fun runnin' and gunnin' with no penalties!

Can't wait to see more. Good start.

Question to the group:

How are bolter aggressors considered with white scars? They look fairly interesting as heavy infantry for taking and holding objectives while being much more mobile with white scars chapter abilities.

I think they're very good. 3 Damage fists in the assault doctrine, run and gun, and assault.

They do need protection though. They can't really efficiently hide unless you put them in a Repulsor. I used to Encircle my Repulsor with these guys in it, then Disembark with the strat and light stuff up, but I literally don't know if I could legally do that with Encirclement.

Your hammer sarge looks awesome. Very similar to my own gritty look.

Your list looks solid for 500 pts. I’m very curious how your Eliminators work! Please let us know! Good luck!

Thanks Prot.

Honestly  I just needed to fill out 75 points, I’m not sure how effective this single squad will be in higher point total games, but I sure want to try it out in the smaller games. I think if I really do run these I will need at least two units. I’m also going to have to put in the melta gun troopers, whatever they’re called, they are too good not to have. Eradicators?

Those are also heavy slots, so it might be a premium for those spots in higher point games.

Well I only had one game last night and let’s just say vs. a redemptor dreadnought at 500 points not much I could do.

I did like how my assault intercessors and Captain were able to get where they wanted and make good charges. Also, Astartes chainswords in turn 3 for assault doctrine are no joke.

My eliminators, sadly, got blown off the board turn one without doing a thing.

We all came to the same conclusion that some large line of sight blocking terrain was still a requirement (duh) even at only 500 points.

Also, Thousand Sons are super scary looking at this point level too.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was reading some of that blog. It's a little hard to follow but I get the gist of it. Nice build up and tracking for you guys to follow up your battles on. Looks great.

I see the Thousand Sons gave you trouble too... gotta have some LoS blocking for sure. It's completely against you if you don't since you have a non-shooting army without even the most basic of Psychics or heavy weapons.

The Eliminators look great too. Too bad about their performance though... I don't know if they have a place are not in most games, I haven't used them with my Scars in 9th.

Let us know how they do. The army is looking great.
