Ink's Crons

INKS

Recommended Posts

Wanted to share some of the first mini's that I've painted in YEARS! Since 3rd ed.

I am not keeping them but I think they turned out fairly well. Some things need more work like the weapons but I don't have the proper paints. I was never good at edge highlighting but I tried.

Painting is hard for me. Necrons are kinda easy for me to paint to a decent standard. I am overly critical of myself. On top of that right now they are in a bad place meta wise. And while that isn't the end of the world it's also not a ton of fun. Lets hope for some updates. The few lists that do well right now aren't really my play style. So I was going to give them up, but because of the painting I decided to keep them. I tend to flip flop on what armies I want to play and collect far to often for someone with a limited budget.

I have some Immortals that I am painting right now and it's mostly just dry brush. While that doesn't produce the most amazing results they look fairly good for what little work was put into them. I should not that I don't like building models a whole lot and the few necrons I have built are a little annoying. It's also really hard for me to decide on a color scheme. But black and metal more or less works. Some of the units will have gold mixed in. Red orbs, (although the effect did not come out like I had hoped) and green bladed weapons.

I have 2 more pictures of these immortals. I'll try to upload them later, the site was giving me an error right now.

Mostly just dry brushing here and I like how it turned out. Little bit of line highlighting which I am still working on. base is different because they might belong to a different detachment. But the theme is the same.

So this is sort of an odd thing for me. All power-ish type weapons and the guns will have the green glow. It's classic, it's iconic. I like it, even If I struggle to paint it.

All the direct Orbs will be red. Eye's. Scarabs orbs, gemstone orbs, etc.

Pads are black.

metal is metal / dark metal

For characters I am going to the trouble of paneling out and painting good portions of them black with a dawnstone highlight. But for warrior and immortals and so on just metal.

For characters / immortals + I am adding in gold. gold stripes, or face plates, crowns, cowls, hip plates on some of them. etc.

staff or weapon handles tend to be gold.

I like wet blending acrylic inks over white for mine, I'm using liquitex vivid lime green and pthalocyanine green blue tone to get a similar tone to the box art.

Edit: this makes it seem like I know what I'm doing, I don't, I just place a colour at each end and pull them until they touch, and the magic of inks does the rest for me.

I'll have to look into this then perhaps.

Thanks. I am pretty happy with the overall look of the models so far. The red eyes / orbs could be brighter but I am scared of messing it up. At some point I might go back and add a little orange to them but we'll see.

Excellent works. The black-and-brass colors on Cryptothralls' barrel-like bodies, make them look like old steam locomotives.

I'd suggest adding pink instead of orange, I think it'd look better. Orange would add a new color not seen elsewhere, whereas pink would just look like bright red and resonate with the base. Edited by Miek
