The Sigilite's Spear Blackshields List

I'm beginning to put together two ZM lists based around the idea that Malcador created a roughshod unit designed to accompany the Knight Errants on missions where they need to rip apart targets of high priority, including demonic incursions towards the latter half of the Heresy. As a Grey Knights player, I wanted explore the origins of the Inquisition and that Chapter during the Heresy and I think these lists give me that chance.

 

The first list revolves around a Nullifactor Primus and uses the Gene Bulked or Berserkers Chymeriae Attributes:

Definitely an interesting theme for your blackshields, it's not every day you see someone doing a proto GK/INQ force. As for the lists the first one is certainly solid considering the theme, strictly speaking standard terminators are better than nulificators but they'll be fine just watch out for enemy terminator squads as you'll usually come off second best. With the contemptor-cortus I'd highly recommend swapping the heavy flamer for a second graviton gun, being almost guaranteed to strip 2 hull points off of any vehicle your going to want to kill is immensely invaluable coupled with the tight corridors of ZM and how blast weapons interact its almost always guaranteed to be on target, plus the template it leaves behind can really slow down your opponents movement. When it comes to the Maurauder squads considering you really want to get them stuck into combat the choice of pariah power armour doesn't make a ton of sense. The only benefit to pariah power armour is the ability to snapshoot weapons after running which would prevent you from charging and the draw back of a diminished save vs s6+ weapons is rather large so I'd be taking just standard power armour on them. One last consideration for the squad is try experimenting with just a normal flamer in ZM if you normally run the cold void rules as always having rending on the flamer is nice, where as the pariah flamer has to overcharge, which is both riskier and can't be done in overwatch, on the other hand torrent is a very useful rule in ZM with the tight corridors, and allows you to position them a bit deeper into squad so they aren't as exposed.

The second list follows the same advice for the Cortus and Marauders squads. For black shields the choice of the delegatus consul doesn't make a ton of sense as you can't run Rites of war, I mean the free master craft on a weapon is nice but maybe look into a chaplain for supporting the terminators, champion as a pure beatstick or a forge lord for some rad-grenades instead, though again from a thematic point of view a delegatus also does work, just some food for thought. As much as I love twin lightning claws from a rule of cool perspective, a volkite charger (or combi volkite) with a single lightning claw does about the same amount of damage (vs marines) but you don't give up your shooting and does come in a few points cheaper. Though being honest I find Lightning claws on terminators a bit underwhelming in general particularly as I tend to target other terminators with them where lightning claws tend to just bounce off of them. I'd recomend either chain/power fists or if you want to save some points power axes. 

Definitely an interesting concept and I'd love to see them done up.

Thanks for the feedback, this is helpful. A few quick responses and questions:

 

1) The suggestions for two Grav Guns on the Contemptor and going with normal power armor and flamers for the Marauders works.

 

2) Would it make sense to drop one of the flamers in each of the Marauder units to make room for a Power Fist in the Nullifactors in list one and upgrading the Delegatus to a Legion Champion with a Paragon Blade in list two? The initial version of these lists used this set up but I dropped the Fist in list one and went with a Delegatus in list two to give those units more flamers.

 

3) Good thoughts on the assault load out for the Terminators in list two. I normally do Chainfist, two Power Fists, and two Power Axes on a Terminator squad to go after TEQ, so I may just use this for the Tartaros unit and spend those 30 points on upgrading the Delegatus to a Champion.

Flamers are definitely nice to have in ZM but its not like you'll get more than 1 maybe 2 turns of shooting with them in a zm as you want to be in combat more often than not.

So with the first list I'd actually swap the flamer for a thunder hammer on the Primus nulificator as it comes in at 10 points and also ensures he won't be swinging a wet noodle vs other marine characters. Power fists on nulificators are usually a bad idea due to the power fists being 10 points to many making an already expensive and slightly over priced terminator into a very expensive and over priced terminator. 

For the second list I'd definitely make that swap, the legion champion with the paragon blade makes a massive difference in terminator face offs with ap2 at initiative.

Done. I dropped the Power Fist in the Nullifactor unit and gave the Primus a Thunder Hammer, which leaves me with 9 points to spend elsewhere. And I have the limited edition Cataphractii Praetor and Praetor Tribune, so that’ll be perfect for both HQs. Edited by Cris R
