I have spilled more contrast paint then any other kind of paint. I wish the bottles were wider instead of taller. There has to be a better way to use GW paints.

 

Edit. I think the first thing I'mma 3D print when I get my printer in a couple weeks is unspillable pots. If they don't exist already it shouldn't be hard to design. #FamousLastWords

I've seen a few Kickstarters for little wide footed sockets to click paints into before opening, shouldn't be hard to find a print pattern for something like that.

 

I'm lucky, so far I've only lost a third of a pot of Levidon blue...

Buy some dropper bottles. Contrast is thin enough you can just pour them straight in.

I use bluetac. But the pot holder definitely solves OPs problem!

Yup, solution A is cheap 20ml dropper bottles. Decant with a mini funnel (you often get some with a set of bottles) and peel off label to apply to new squeezy bottle, done. Just preferably get ones with the wider nozzles for paint, rather than the ones for vape ecig liquids; they do kinda work with thin paint ala contrast, but you get a bit of a vacuum seal going on, and they're useless for decanting normal layer paints.

Downside is you then can't use the brush straight into the pot. Ironically, Contrast dries quickly enough on a dry palette (and can lose its properties somewhat on a wet pallette) that I actually prefer using it GW classic style, about the only paint I do!

 

so option B is definitely a paint puck.

 

 

I like this garfy one, because it has a wide anti-tilt base all round - it has literally survived my cat using my desk as the parkour highway to the top of the cupboard while I had a 24ml bottle of nuln oil open, not a drop spilled. (my leg, that was the first jump point and took the full weight of cat and back claws - not so much). Works just as well for Contrast, and isn't tall/bulky so doesn't take up much room on my painting tray. There are any number of designs out there though, including GW's own pot holder, ones that you hook over the lid to hold it open, and ones you can 3d print yourself. (you can also print custom funnels so you can leave a base/layer paint pot to drip drain)

OOH the paint puck looks good, if i didn't already have half a dozen of the GW holders i'd get some...   plus orange is a nice colour... stands out.

GW's solution. I'm lucky not to have spilled any contrast, but I've lost plenty of Nuln and Agrax to the painting table over the years.

First contact paint... knock, tip, spill, followed by that moment of panic where I have to choose between saving the miniature and stopping any from dripping onto the carpet*

 

* - The latter of which requires leaving the house right there and then, going into hiding, gaining a new identity, and starting a new life hoping my wife never finds me.

I lost half a pot of black templar in the early days of contrast which was also out of stock everywhere for ages just to make things worse. On the plus side, quick application of paper towels followed by a wet cloth and it was as if it never happened.. on the kitchen table I shouldnt have been painting at in the first place   

 

The main issue for me - forgetting to use the pot holder myself. I make sure my kids have it every time - they haven't split a drop!

I didn’t spill contrast paint, but I did spill a brand new pot of Iron Hands Steel today. I was painting and decided to close the pot to give it a shake before putting some more on my palette. The closing and shaking went as normal, but when I opened the lid and went to put the pot down I proceeded to live out my childhood dream of being a magician and flipped the pot over with a flourish. It flipped 3 times and spilled 70% of my brand new pot of silvery goodness. I believe I heard Ferrus Manus screaming in the warp somewhere.

 

It looked like bits of the T-1000 got splattered onto my palette pad.

 

So, yeah, nothing much those paint stands could do for me and my brick hands today. Sometimes you just gotta take the L.
