Fending off a 4k Tyranid Swarm with DA + Fortifications

Hey everyone!

Sunday morning I am having a killpoints match against a tyranid friend from my local game group. It is going to be a 4k match, of up top 4 detachments on each side, but it will be fought on waves and on a regular Strike Force board.

My Successors will be 2750 points of Firstborn Marines, set up along with three detachments of up to 1250 points of fortifications, spaced over pretty much 3/4ths of the board; and they will be facing off against three waves of Tyranids. One starting on the board at 2k, then two additional reinforcement waves of 1k each, on turns 2 and 3.

We are playing this to finish up a narrative Urban Conquest campaign my local group has been playing for the past year. The scenario will be just kill points, though. The forces of the Wings of Dawn have to stop the Tyranid swarm no matter the cost. The Tyranids, in turn, seek to breach through the fortifications to reach a point of high strategic value on the other side.

No idea what the swarm will bring, but I am bringing the following:

Wings of Dawn Defense Force

2750 Points - Battalion Detachment - 10 CP

I don't know what my opponent will bring, but I know he has, in his collection, over 40 genestealers, over 200 gants of both breeds, 2 flying hive tyrants, about 20 gargoyles, lots of venomthropes, biovores, and carnifexes, a lot of neurothropes, and a Hierophant. Among other nasty things.

It will be a hammer and anvil deployment, with my zone a bit extended towards the halfway point of the board. On a board with mostly craters. Ill have LoS advantage.

My mission is only to try and outlast him. So, what I guess I'll do is set up all my tacticals in combat squads. Use them and the devastators to man the buildings, spreading over as many firepoints as I can. Use the rest and the defense points to to set up two lines, around a middle ground of Deathwing Knights, veterans, and characters, to spread out and lock down his forces.

Ill focus my fortifications on his fliers. Then use the rest to try and pick out his Venomthropes first, before moving on to the bigger beasts. Perhaps he might get stuck inside his own units, due to the volume of light infantry he will be packing.

In the end, my opponent had a big life crisis he had to attend to, so we had to postpone this game for another weekend. Ill post a report on it, whenever it does take place
