Model Updates?

A good deal of the Necron model line is now plastic for the most part.

I don't really understand why they updated the warrior kit other than I guess they were tired of the green plastic rods. I was never a fan so I can't really complain. I also think the new scarabs look better so I suppose that is a plus. I also haven't built any of the new warriors yet. I hear from people that they are good except on how monopose they tend to be.

As I am currently building some immortals I have to say that I dislike the cord from the back to the gun. I have them on my current models but I think going forward I am just going to clip these off. In some aspects they help line up the gun, in others they are a bit too fiddley and annoying.

What is not plastic currently?

What models do you think should be or will be updated? I know it's not likely we'll see too many new Necron models too soon considering where we are at in 9th Edition but I'd love to hear what people think of the current line and where it should still see some improvements.

New Destroyers?

New C'tan?

Those are the two biggest off the top of my head but please let me know what you guys out there think.

I am still building out my army and force so some of the feedback I'll use to delay some of the models that I do buy and build. For example. There isn't really anything wrong with the C'tan models of the Deceiver / Reaper - But I also think they are due for an update eventually. I also think the destroyer models are likely to see some updated version at some point. Since I am not in dire need of either of these I think I'll wait on them.

What are some other models that might fall into those categories like I listed above?

GW needs to release either a modular Flayed One kit or 15 more unique models for them. It's astonishing how they don't seem to care about monopose models in their releases, though is suspect that's to do with control of the 3rd party market. Or rather to spite them, since it actually doesn't change GW at all if they release a kit and we buy it then a 3rd party upgrade sprue.

Same goes for Skorpekh Destroyers. Units of 6 yet only 3 new models? Get out of it!

Destroyers need a revamp and it is weird they didn't get one when Heavy Destroyers did.

What else...? Most of the rest of the range seems pretty done. I can't think of anything.

Honestly, I seriously doubt we'll see anything for Necrons for an edition now, likely more. I could be wrong but if feels like GW are done with Necrons.

The only unit really in need of an update is the regular Destroyers- they are the only model still made with the 3rd-edition green rods and should have been updated with the heavy destroyers. Honorable mention is indeed the two named C'Tan, as they are fairly small compared to the new Void Dragon model and the Transcendent C'Tan does not have a separate model (you have to by a Vault to get one). Larger bases/models would make them more of a vibrant part of the army.

Other than that, really the whole Necron line is up to date and out of Failcast hell. Not going to lie, having to pay 50 bucks for five Flayed Ones is a bit of a kick in the balls, but the models are at least no longer resin.

Nooooooo, but you are probably right. :)

I think Idaho's right.

If there was anything you were holding off on in  hopes of a new sculpt, I don't think it's happening.  Even that event Lord was a little... blah.

I would assume the way GW operates so heavily for profit margin now, they seem to prefer to do something brand new, usually a character. So I think the hope of getting an actual new 'squad' now is almost nothing.

That may come off as negative, but I still love my 'crons. I have put in a ton of work on them and miss playing them a lot when I do veer away for a while (in this case Thousand Sons)

I personally look to the chapter approved for future improvements in units... probably mostly through cost adjustments?

Night Bringer and the Deceiver need to be updated. Both are midgets compared to the Void Dragon although I am not too upset since it makes them easier to hide behind terrain out of LOS. Destroyers are actually some of my favorite models from the line up and hold up well to the current aesthetic.  Necrons model wise are right up there with Marines and Dark Eldar in being a fairly complete line of models and the old ones outside the Ctan really dont show their age.

Honestly, our entire range is in better shape age wise than almost any other army out there. I don't have a real desire to see more new Cron units when parts of CSM and most of the main Eldar line are so out of date. We had our time and frankly GW did right by us as far as new models and range refreshes go. I would expect at most to see a new character in this edition or next.

What we need far far more than new models is significant points reduction via chapter approved as a the absolute minimum. The next step up would be a rules patch/expansion via a warzone book. Or, what we really need but will never happen, is a brand new 2.0 dex. Necrons are only meta relevant running skew lists relying on Eternal Expansionist (every single ranking Necron list uses this). Without this one chapter tactic our book would have a win rating comparable to the worst non-updated codex's.

Flayed Ones and Skorpekh Destroyers being monopose models is particularly aggravating to me. They're the big new model releases we've received to be excited about and theirs at least 15 missing from the former and 3 from the latter.

And that's if we don't want to take multiple units.

I don't feel like GW have done right by Necrons. I feel they've done half a job.

The minimal amount of possibility is pretty much a part of how GW makes kits anymore rather than some failure for the Necron army. If you buy ten Intercessors or Hellblasters, it's basically two kits of five. Eradicators are 3 models for 6 man squads. Outriders are the same. The new models fit nicer and look better than the old multi pose kits ever did, but they come with limited possibility as a side effect. Yes, Skorpeth and Flayed Ones are basically ETB kits but anymore the option seems to be that or nothing.

I'm not saying it's right or great, but there are other armies still waiting for the sun so I'm not going to be bitter about GW not going hard enough for a faction that isn't their main cash cow.

Maybe you're just spoiled as a space marine player?

Deathshroud Terminators and Obliterators were also monopose. AoS seems pretty full of monopose kits.

It used to be that plastic kits were more posable than metal/finecast. With everything being plastic that difference is long gone.

At least half of those flayed ones look pretty easy to convert with only one looking a real pain.

How am I spoiled? I'm not an 8 year old boy. I'm a customer who is unhappy with a product.

I don't like monopose kits, especially for models there will be multiple of in an army.

So we finally got the maiden game of KT done. My necrons vs admech. Didnt win because of vp but almost completely destroyed his force. So i kinda see a little victory.

My force was warrior fire team and immortal fire team with immortal leader. He had a tesla others had blasters. Warriors all had reapers. His was 2 vsnguard fire teams with the max specials.

I really liked the game play. Streamlined and fun to play. Some rules as always had us raising our brows but thats pretty normal for gw games.

The main take away is fun was had. Thats the main point.

Next game i am unleashing my webway walkers. Should be interesting.

New opportunities would include:

New plastic updates to all the finecast heroes.
New lokhust lord
New Ohydian lord
Updates to nightbringer and deceiver.
Regular lokhust destroyers update
A 4th new C'tan
A new lord that is not locked behind a special release and has more weapon options.

An arguement could be made that we have a divide in an asthetic now. All the new models have this slightly beat up look to them and everything else looks fresh and clean. I don't think it's necessary but any of the new 5th edition models could get an update in this way.

And of course, a touch nitpicky IMHO but totally valid, but a kit for things that are monopose.
