I don’t think that most of the KT stuff ported over to squads of Orks or IG for the standard 40K game though, did it?

I could see the great majority of this kit doing nothing in a 40K game except looking more interesting than the same old squads (unless you’ve been converting them for a while).  Good stuff for KT though, glad there’s interest by GW in making all the rest of the units look the part of the specialists as well.

I don’t know, this particular KT box doesn’t excite me near as much as it should given it has terrain I’ve wanted with the bonus Pathfinder stuff, but it just isn’t grabbing me.

The Ork Kommandos got their own 40k rules (replacing the old ones) but the Veteran Guardsman did not.

The Ork Kommandos got their own 40k rules (replacing the old ones) but the Veteran Guardsman did not.

What I meant was all the specialists and special equipment having a rule in the game, etc. - I’m not familiar with the new Kommando rules though - did those specialists each get their own rules in 40K to where there’s a Breacha Boy in the squad with rules, there’s a Slasha Boy with rules, Comms Boy with rules, etc.?  Also, did the different types of equipment each get reflected in rules for the Kommando Squad, like the Harpoon, Dynamite, and Climbing Rope?

The Veteran Guardsmen didn’t necessarily need new squad rules - I don’t think they have specialists like the Medic, Zealot, etc., within those squads though - they use a standard set up, and then have their special weapons from my understanding.

There loadouts carried over to 40k.
But most of the specialist equipment/it options did not.

They did indeed port over the weapon options, the Shokka Pistol is R: 6" Pistol D3 S 6, AP-1, D1, Blast, D3 damage vs vehicles and the Breacha Ram is Melee S+2, AP-2, D2, Ignores cover. Though the Bomb Squig and Distraction grot are "wargear" rather than their own models, 5 and 10 pts respectively. The bomb squig is used when firing overwatch, you remove it to deal D3 MW on a 3+ to the charging unit (or 2+ if against a vehicle.) The grot you can remove to treat the unit as being in cover for the fight phase. (They get +2 to their sv  and +1 to wound when in cover.)

The Guardsman basically already exist for the most part between the Command and Veteran squads. There are a few that don't quite fit, but I'm hoping that the new Codex will slot them in a bit better.

Nice!  Sounds like there’s a much better chance than I thought to have things more broadly represented by the Pathfinder stuff in a Tau 40K army then - that would be cool.

"On the T’au side, the snazzy upgraded Pathfinders can be used as a normal unit in your T’au army. Their kit won’t remain ornamental for long, though – brand new options for Pathfinders will be arriving in an upcoming codex. In fact, Fire Caste commanders among you will be excited to discover that it’s one of the first new codexes coming in 2022. "

Will be interesting to see what they get. Though I dare say if they stay as squishy at the current point costs it won't really matter since they die turn 1 anyway. :D

Will the current vanilla pathfinder kit go away when the new kit becomes wider release?

Yeah, I imagine we'll see the kit disappear.

To the point I'm considering do I pick up a couple of squads now or will I want the upgrade sprue for each of them (seeing as at least some of it is going to apply to 40K as well)?

Because I like Pathfinders, they're probably my favourite T'au unit.
