Best GW source for Combat Shields

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

With me making a good start into creating a Deathwatch army, I've read in several sources that Veterans could do with having combat shields.  Unfortunately I don't seem to have any left in my bits box, beyond a single shield from the Space Wolf sprue.

I was wondering what kit is the best source for several combat shields?  I'd prefer to keep it GW, as my nearest stores are Warhammer stores, and I'm more likely to get a game there.

Is there a single kit that does several shields?  Or am I likely to have to buy several?

Thanks All in advance!

I am not 100% familiar with the Deathwatch codex but I think only the sergeant can take Combat Shields while the rest of the squad can take Storm Shields. If I am right (no promises), the best sources of Storm Shields is the Vanguard Vetern sprue which comes with 4 shield each.

You may be better off on eBay as there are several sellers who will sell individual components. Storm Shields seem to sell for about £2 each + P&P. If you are willing to try 3D printed, you can get them for a bit cheaper and in a wider variety of styles.

Other options include using tilt shields or otherwise turning suitably sized bits into "shields" and converting your own. Neither storm shields nor combat shields have fixed shapes, allowing you to use any bit that is suitably sized as a buckler type of shield.

The Grey Knights Terminators kit come with multiple tilt shields, though you'll have to contend with the overt Grey Knights iconography on those bits.

You might also look at the Age of Sigmar and Lord of the Rings ranges. There are a number of units, especially within the Grand Alliance Order (AoS) and Good (LotR), that include 10 (or more) shields in a kit.

Converting your own using plasticard is always an option, too. You might use press-molded details to spruce them up a bit, or you might paint decorations upon the shield faces.

if you know anyone who has assault terminators they may have a few spare storm shields or could get some from a bits site.

BA and DA have their own versions too for variety

edit: (via their own terminator sets)
