Black Templars FAQ thread (1st post updated 10/20/21)

In an effort to get GW to answer some question I felt it was a good idea for us to collectively pool them so everyone submitting questions to 40kfaq@gwplc.com can hit the same points so we can hopefully see some of them answered. My intent is to collect questions through the week and send them in when the codex officially releases next weekend.

I put off actually sending this in due to a lot of people not having full access to the rules, so I feel continuing to collect FAQs for a mass submission by multiple people is still the correct action, though we definitely have longer thanks to the codex's wider release not coming for around a month.

WARHAMMER 40,000
Q: Does the Emperor's Champion Holy Wargear rule prevent him from gaining Crusade Relics?

Q: If I use the Shock and Awe stratagem from Codex: Space Marines does it prevent me from using the Shock and Awe stratagem in Codex Supplement Black Templars and vice versa?

Q: Paragon of Fury reads that the character who completes a charge gains +1 strength. Is this correct? If so, is the strength increase from the warlord trait Paragon of Fury permanent for the rest of the battle?

Q: Is strength increase from the warlord trait Paragon of Fury cumulative?

Q: Do Grimaldus' Cenobyte Servitors count as Character models for the purposes of rules such as Look Out, Sir! or secondary objectives such as Assassinate?

Q: When selecting a combi-weapon that has two profiles or a weapon such as a Flamestorm Gauntlet that has both a melee and ranged component for the Master-crafted relic do both profiles get the benefit?

Q: Do Relic Bearers upgrades count as relics for the purposes of the Master-crafted Relic rule, or the ability to take relics or special-issue wargear on the same model? For example: is a single model able to be a Relic Bearer carrying something like Holy Grenade and still be equipped with a Relic such as Pyrebeast?

Q: Does the wargear granted by "Relic Bearers" count as a relic for the purposes of warlord traits, stratagems, and other relics that may affect an enemy unit's relics?

Q: Can a unit embark on a transport at the end of the normal move granted by Devout Push?

Q: When a unit is under the effects of the Litany Fervent Acclamation, are they under the effects of both the Passion and the Vow, or just the vow?

KILL TEAM
Q: Are there plans to include a Crusader Squad or Sword Brethren Squad in Kill Team to reflect the updated models?

Was about to ask if the Emperor's Champion could have two Warlord Trait through heir of Sigismund, Hopefully answered swiftly.

GW isn't likely to response in under 4 weeks, so I figured we could take a week to collect questions on the book and get them sent in on the official launch so we can make sure they're "frequently" asked and possibly answered when the initial FAQ drops.

This is a great idea, the more people send the same questions the more GW may notice them and answer them.

Thanks! I sincerely hope that it'll get GW to go "wow, a lot of people are asking about this, guess we better answer them".

we should ask them why the bonus attack from AAC does not work with shock assault. It would not be too strong. Blood angels get +1 attack and +1 to wound for free

But only in assault doctrine.

but thats what is represting in its best. BA alsways have a war insight against black rage and red thirst which they try to resistant. So they hold back in early rounds - but as longer the fight is the more bloodlust they get - and if a unit decide to "give up the fight against BR and RT" then put them into Assault docrine via CP !!!

Extremely fluffy i would say.

But fluff wasn't the issue...?

Your issue was power and balancing.

BT have a chapter tactic (reroll charges and 5+++ against Mortals) and then get additional effects that last all game instead of just during one doctrine, much better in some cases!

Not to be rude, but for the penultimate question, I would suggest an alternative wording:

- For the Primaris Crusader Squad, would it be possible to grant the Sword Brother access to the equipment available to his kin in the Sword Brethren squad?

I propose this because I think the request has a greater chance of being granted if its scope is limited to the SB in command of a crusader squad, rather than all Primaris sergeants.

Good job Fulkes.

Good point I'll split that up tonight when I update the lists after work.

Sword brethren kill team. Or is that too elite?

One of the things that didn't carry over from the 4th edition era was that Sword brethren could be tooled up in many ways. Including giving them infiltrate. Since we didn't have access to regular scout squads, that meant that sword brethren were our only infiltrators.

Added a question about Devout Push since some people are talking about it being "jank" so thought it'd be good to just ask.

think so too. A friend who just started in mid 8th edition has only Primaris units but bought some Devastor Marines just because of devout push

Fulkes thanks for all this. We all stand to benefit.

I'm happy to help! My hope is that with the FAQs being consolidated into a list like this that people can copy and paste we'll hopefully hit whatever metric GW uses to determine if things are FAQ worthy. If nothing else it'd be nice to have assumptions confirmed to prevent feel bads for people later/
