Welp, that settles whether I'll be buying this or not. I don't know why GW hates inquisition so much but it is tragic how they keep chipping away at them.

As GW moves away from the grim and dark I think the whole idea of an “Inquisition” force may be headed out the door never to return to 40K.

Also, in a developer interview a couple years ago I was pretty sure GW said the Inquisition would not be getting a codex.

Times have changed, they’re trying to market their product to a more diverse audience. That’s all good, mind you. Just the name “inquisition” may ruffle some feathers.

Finally, GW has moved away from supporting the kit bash hobby side of the game. The Inquisition was always the plaything of modelers and those that wanted to model individual operatives and henchmen. The current rules have done away with that, locking miniatures into mono  poses with specific model-based load outs. There are no specific models for “acolytes”. No models, no support.

I love the lore and models and idea of Inquisition henchmen and their leaders scouring the galaxy as they serve the Imperium. I just fear the support will not be there.

I think that interview was in the context of it being more suited to Kill Team than full on 40k. Though then that never materialised, so who knows.

True, but in the context of 40K it’s telling.

Im pretty sure the "woke mob" isnt coming for the single most diverse faction in the setting which nails down the Evil of the Imperium so nicely biggrin.png

The Second idea of not being conversion friendly is more on the nail, and i think the Inquisition is hamstrung by so many of its newer releases being promo or campaign book linked, meaning its hard to get up a good steam of new model releases to push for a new Codex. Even a fixed pose Acolyte sprue and maybe a fixed pose specialist sprue would probably be enough tbh, something like the Rogue trader releases (Who coincidentally suffer from exactly the same problems) perhaps even merging the two but nothing cools enthusiasm like a "misc others" codex Imperial agents, which definitely wont happen til the main codexes get done for 9th.

Alternatively maybe something big IS in the pipe so they are just reprinting to keep the rules in a 9th ed book and all the new ideas are in a book at the end (possibly perpetually) of the release cycle that they never get round to developing/releasing?

Ech, either way its a year or two off and my poor terminator inquisitor just got squatted, not even legend'ed :/

*EDIT* And ofc GW thinks if they just ignore a problem itll go away

Just because there is no Ordo Malleus Terminator Lord, in the Cadia Codex, dose not mean that the unit is phased out.  This to me is just a filler/ bridge to the next proper codex, maybe as part of some Agents of the Imperium.  its more a attemptto reach into the pockets of the =][= players.

I like your optimism but I've been let down too many times by GW to think anything other than this is all we'll get.

Sounds like a lot of nonsense purely coming from your head.

There's no evidence that GW have any intention of taking any 'Grimdark' out of 40k. Its just as unevenly applied as it always was.

Who's going to get offended by 'Inquisitors' in a fantasy setting, the Catholic Church? I think the S&M war nuns would be far more worrysome in that direction and those have new models. If Disney can put an Inquisitor in their Star Wars cartoon no one is going to care about them in a higher age group hobby. Online streaming services are way more wary of public backlash than a niche hobby company and yet we have an Eisenhorn series at least in pre-production (not expecting it to get made myself). They wouldn't pitch that if they were planning on ditching that archetype from the setting, it would be cross promotion insanity (though we did get Total Warhammer which is almost as bad).

Yeah they have a video game too, I get that. I don’t think this is nonsense though i could just see the name getting changed and the focus morphing into something else. Where I live (the US) I’ve seen outrage over seemingly innocuous things, so that paints my opinion. I try to leave politics out of my toy hobby so will do so.

It seems new Vigilus book might have an Inquisitor.

Fingers crossed for an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and some proper retinue rules.

Seems that GW treats an Inquisitor as a fire and forget model, but it's good to get something even if it doesn't do anything special. Hope is the first step... but fingers are still crossed!

Perhaps some Crusade content for the Inquisition? After all, they DID provide Crusade content for Rogue Traders.

It is amazing how easy it would be to improve the Inquisition. I am once again, cautiously optimistic.

Its super easy.

Use Tempestus as Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, with the Inquisition boon to board all vehicles like the inquisitor and boom you have half the issues sorted!

Hire me GW for more genious ideas, like bring back the Kasrkin.

You still have to actually add vehicles to the Inquisition army list. Using other people's rides locks them into a "must bring a non-Inquisition detachment" or "must attach as Imperial Agents" situation. But it could be done by simply changing the text of the Authority of the Inquisition rule.

The Tempestus solution would at least allow them to include Tempestus vehicles... But that's it.

Would still be an improvement though.

Safe bets would be Taurox, Chimeras, Valks rhinos and Land Raider if we are going for a full Inq detach.

In that case a Tempestus Inquisitorial Regiment would be nice.
