Hello everyone

This is a call to arms for all those creators of nautical themed chapters

Over the years there have been many (The Leviathans being one of my favourite stuck in my head but unfortunately cannot find a link to), and now we have some canon ones we can play with too (Atlantian Spears & Dark Kraken)

If you are reading this and are interested in collaborating on writing something (E.g Dark Atlantis themed Campaign) please feel free to reach out

Colour me intrigued. The nautical themed ones caught my attention of all the new Primaris chapters. The fact that both, Dark Krakens and and Atlantean Spears have been featured in recent WDs got me hoping for a related Index Astartes for one of them.

I'd like to add the Void Tridents as a canon, nautical themed chapter.

Got two in development and a finished one, myself:

- Star Lords, a British empire/ Kul Tiras (Warcraft) themed Imperial Fists successors, which was tasked by Guiliman to stabilise the imperial logistic and trade routes
- Cerberan Blades, a rather standard Viking themed Wolves successor without the wolfy mc'wolf theme, created by Cawl for his own means
- Storm Riders, a Hawaiian, especially Koa inspired, White Scars successor (the finished one I've mentioned)

Possible nautical themes:

- Greek/ Atlantean
- Golden Age of Piracy
- Master and Commander and the related historical background
- Medieval Knights during the Crusades (as they conquered the Mediterranean Sea and used island like Cyprus
- Vikings
- Pacific endogenous tribes like the Maori or Hawaiian

@Inquisitor_Lensoven:
It's funny that GW is coming up with rather similar ideas to chapters created on this board (spies everywhere).
The canon Covenant of Fire is quite close to my Ashen Blades chapter, as well: http://www.bolterand...p/#entry5384702

My idea at the moment is some sort of large campaign that results in the sinking of "Atlantis" and the chapters involved becoming "Guardians of Atlantis", with each chapter sparing 10 men to protect it. There was an attempt at something similar a few years ago with the 'Grail Wardens' inspired by the Holy Grail (And all being BA successors)

I'd like to add the Void Tridents as a canon, nautical themed chapter.

There are a few around, newer chapter being more established. My list at the moment is:

  • Dark Kraken
  • Atlantian Spears
  • Void Tridents
  • Sons of the Kraken

Got two in development and a finished one, myself:

- Star Lords, a British empire/ Kul Tiras (Warcraft) themed Imperial Fists successors, which was tasked by Guiliman to stabilise the imperial logistic and trade routes

That's cool. I had an idea that sounds similiar inspired by this picture of Popeye

Don't get me started on that, a very old (and cringe worthy) chapter of mine, the Night Vipers have a very similar chapter badge and name as the Black Vipers

Mine didn’t go public early enough for GW to steal it…at least I don’t think so…then again all they needed to do was give them new colors and a ‘didn’t go to Dante’s aid story’ to complete their chapter

I have toyed with the idea of some more nautical themed heretic Astartes over the years, so colour me interested!

The whole space pirate set up is there from the get go and you just can‘t avoid going after all these Dagon / Deep One vibes

Then there is the whole look of deep sea creatures in general.

And it offers a ton of Variation how the Gods manifest in such an environment.

The most obvious one is an offshoot of the Space Sharks, whose nomad fleet comes in contact with..something… in the Deep of the void. Then go wild with more tentacle / deep sea creature stuff on exile markings!

Haven‘t felt brave enough to actually paint that yet :):

I have recruited a few other people from different sources, so we may need to work on it on Discord and then provide updates here.

I currently envisage something like this for the campaign, but please remember that nothing is set in stone. I find it easier to start with a few ideas to discuss.

1. Sector or Sub-sector responsible for providing drinking water for a majority of the segment.

- This area of space has multiple ocean planets and a central industry planet focused solely on desalination. Copious amounts of water are shipped there for processing.

2. A native aquatic species/mutant becomes infected with the Genestealer genotype. Creatin 40k terrifying pseudo merfolk. These end up being shipped around the entire Sector (see above)
3. A mass Genestealer Cult uprising occurs (Both "merfolk" and humans). Space Marine Chapters are called for aid, tasked with quashing the upsurges and protecting the vital drinking water hub. Begin a counter-insurgency on said hub and mass orbital bombardments on the outer ocean planets.

4. Not fast enough as the cult have managed to beckon a Hive Fleet currently called Rusalka. Tracked by more nautical chapters

5. Resulting onslaught results in said desalination hub becoming the ocean floor.

6. Impossible to eradicate genetype merfolk; therefore, each chapter assigns one marine to form a permanent kill team tasked with fending off this threat from ever happening again. They are referred to as "The Guardians of Atlantis."

Have the Storm Riders ride killer whales the way Space Wolves ride Thunderwolves? Ragnar Blackmane demonstrated the ability to SWIM IN ARMOR, in William King's classic novel Ragnar's Claw, so you can justify whale riders wearing power armor, to ease modeling.
Previous projects: Wolves of Catachan (the Wolfbrothers Chapter reborn), Steel Crusaders (Codex: Iron Hands), Iron-hearted Angels (Codex: Blood Angels supplement).

Current projects: Knights of Renaissance (Star Wars: The Force Awakens Marines), Grim Knights of Grimm Nights (Red vs. Blue Marines).

Haha, no
They're classy sons of the Khan, focusing on air strikes, rapid insertions and void warfare. I'm trying to avoid such levels of Wolfy Mc'wolf themes.

But I have some wolf/ whale hybrid for a different chapter, the Argent Claws.

Ooh, there is a campaign…

/tries to ignore pile of unfinished projects/

For the sake of completeness I’d like to share this IA on the Void Barons,

created by our frater Vazzy -IIRC- for the War of the false Primarch:

https://warofthefals...oid-barons.html

There may be all purged by M41, but should be mentioned for the sake of their “ war shanties” alone !

Philip Sibbering's version of the Space Sharks  are privateers, and his Aquamarines are argonauts

Can easily have been reborn in the Ultima founding - like the Soul Drinkers - with them not knowing that their forbearers was declaired traitors.

That's actually an interesting idea for the War of the false Primarch project, since most of the information we creat is presented as something found in later ages could somebody be racing to find any information about one of the 11 lost Chapters that has been reborn and decide what parts of the information to give to the newly created Chapter, and what to purge.

I have a guard regiment from a heavily watered world as well for the first idea.
They have actual naval units in the lore.
And I have a gunboat model that can be used for a special game.

I have not post this Chapter here earlier but here is a DA successor with a mostly Francis Drake/16th-centery navy theme: They begun as a world play idea, from that the BA are vampires > Dracula is the most famous vampire > alternative ways to use that theme = Dracula means Son of the Dragon > another name for dragon is drake > Sir Francis Drake.

Sons of Drake

+ BA successors

+ 16th-centery coastal Western Europe (including GB)-ish

+ Black armour, with red as spot colours, collar and wrists are white. The spot colour is gold for veterans. Many of them wore fine leather glows over their armour glows. Officers and heroes often had feather plumes on their helmets.

+ Symbol: on black, a red wyvern, wings displayed and tail nowed gules, a six-pointed star in white in each upper corner.

+ Followed the BA system of showing company and disposition (with the exception that the colours for the 5th, 9th and 10th company are inverted), but used low gothic numbers on kneepads to show squad belonging.

+ Rounded crowned high hats with decorated hatbands and/or feather plumes were common headgear when not in combat.

+ Did not have as much angel-themed bling as the BA. Most bling/accessors are dragon, sea- and voidsmen themed – if modelled suggest using Freeguild heads, leather wings from WHFB/AoS Vampires’ armours, the “belt bits” from Imperial Fists and Iron Hands upgrade kits, and the measuring/similar instruments from Helblaster Volley Gun, rapier-like swords for heroes/officers. Maybe use the Black Ark Corsairs’ drake-skin cloaks (could be any colour but suggest red).

+ Specialised in void combat and the hunting of pirates, both human and xeno.

+ Was closely allied with the Imperial Navy in their homeworld’s sector, and also often worked with the Imperial Navy outside of the sector. All battle-brothers were trained in the etiquette and politics of the Imperial Navy.

+ They impaled the corpses of captured pirates on their ships’ hulls (often after draining them of blood), and often did similar things at the battle-fields when fighting on surfaces.

+ Sent forces to the Defence of Baal.

+ Believed destroyed, with homeworld, sometime between the Fall of Cadia and the coming of Lord Commander Roboute Guilliman, the Primarch Reborn, to the Defence of Baal.

+ The single digit survivors from the Defence of Baal decided not to try to rebuild the chapter, feeling their failures had not given them the right to continue existing. Instead, the survivors were among them that joined up to become the “firstborn” core of the Leviathan Eaters.

Let's just not ignore the Age of Discovery.

My Knights Tempest are a 16th century Portuguese inspired chapter, so I would be interested.

HQ.gif KNIGHTS TEMPEST HQ.gif

FOUNDING: ..................ULTIMA FOUNDING[M.41]
CHAPTER WORLD: .............CRUSADING CHAPTER
FORTRESS MONASTERY: ........BATTLE BARGE ADAMASTOR
GENE-SEED: ...IMPERIAL FISTS

"Honor the Emperor for He beholds you."

Origins

T
he Knights Tempest are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter created from Dorn's Imperial Fists lineage and raised during the Ultima Founding.
The Chapters raised during this Founding consisted entirely of Primaris Space Marines who had been created entirely from a new stock of gene-seed -- crafted over ten millennia by Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl -- as the supreme contingency plan and the ultimate defenders of the Imperium of Man against the darkness that now encroaches from all sides.
A fleet based chapter, its single Battle Barge, Adamastor, is the Chapter's spiritual and operational center.

Recruitment

Knights Tempest take their potential recruits from many worlds. On each of these worlds they maintain a Chapter chapel. However they have no special rights as to where they recruit their neophytes. The Chapter also conducts ad-hoc recruitment as needed, which can involve intervening in ongoing conflicts to recruit the most talented warriors taking part in the fighting.Recruits are subjected to psycho-indoctrination and conditioning, strengthening their resolve and honing them into dedicated and merciless warriors.
Not all recruits survive the brutal training, and not all are accepted.

Organization

The Chapter is divided into 7 autonomous Companies, called Armadas, each one led by a Captain, except the 1st company that is led the the Captain-Major (chapter master) of the chapter.
The opinion of every Captain is heard before battle although final decision always rests on the Captain Major.
The rest of the chapter command roles are fulfilled by the chapter Knights.

Chapter neophytes do not see combat until their black carapace is implanted, and only use Phobos Mark armour until they are raised to battle brother.
Traditionally they are deployed as Eliminators, offering long range support to their brethren.

Doctrine

The Knights Tempest, with a few exceptions derivative of being a fleet based chapter, are compliant with the Codex in terms of organisation and battlefield procedures. They consistently follow the tactics presented in the Codex, efficiently making use of different standard units in the manner that the tactical manual requires. Their training is broad and all-encompassing, so that the Chapter can effectively counter opponents who use vastly different tactical approaches to battle.
The Knights Tempest also place great value in marksmanship and are renown for their accuracy with ranged weapons, although they consider the sword the most perfect and noble close-combat weapon devised by mankind.
This focus on blade mastery is exacerbated by the Armada Champion which takes upon him the role of seeking the enemy leaders, so that he can engage the foe's most powerfull warriors in a duel to the death.
This role is given to the most skilled Knight of the Armada, following the ancient tradition of Sigismund and his appointment as Emperor Champion, although in the Knights Tempest, this role can be compared to the Company Champion of other chapters.
Many of the Chapter Knights use "Montantes", or longswords, which they use to deadly perfection slaying scores of foes in wide arcs.

Chapter Librarians fulfill an indirect combat role, but non the less of the utmost importance.
Due to the frequency of the crusades taking them into the Nihilus side of the Imperium, Librarians are used to guide the ships trough the warp, instead of Navigators, guiding the Fleet using divination and astronomical charts with short jumps along the treacherous currents of warp. Secret pacts made with the Navigator House Zarco, ensures no problems arise from this arrangement.
They also serve as ship masters when the fleet is engaged in void combat, using their third eye gift to ensure victory.

Watch the first part of King Kong (2005), watch/read any of the sea based Tintin adventures, and read The Sea-Wolf  and you might get some useful ideas.

Popeye is comedy but you might also get ideas from that.

Yes, but they are not that good for when you are trying to comming up with lore for your faction. The comics/radioplay/movie/cartoons are better for that.
