I'm not a expert on armies however I want to get a small Death Korps of Krieg force. Is it still worth it? Like in terms of gameplay rather then cost.

Yes and no. Competitively maybe not unless you are ok with fielding them using different/stronger regiment rules. For less competitive play I'd say yes, as long as you like them.

For rules support there isn't much, which can be both a good and bad thing. the good thing is that playing them shouldn't change all that much due to updates but then there's a lack of updates, which is something more competitive players than myself are interested in. But it's also too early to say because we're all still waiting on the next AM codex( for 9th edition)

So if you like them go for it is the best answer I can give you.

Astra Militarum as a faction is not top tier at this time. Recent supplimemts do not give a lot of hope for fundamental changes in the near future. That said there are lots of quality tools (fire support, chaff) in the roster that can round out imperial soup lists. Krieg is often picked for cool factor rather than raw efficiency.

Welcome to the B&C :smile.: As above they're not in the best place currently (not that the normal Guard codex is great). If you're not too worried about being that competitive then they're worth it, as they're great models and a great army.

That said with an official GW release now albeit limited maybe we can expect Kriegers to get brought into the fold so to speak, or at least get updated rules. As Warhead notes the updated Guard codex doesn't seem any time soon and I'd imagine that would happen first? Maybe there will be more information or clues when the DKoK models get a solo release?

However it goes none of this is likely to be soon, but that could be good time to get your collection going

In terms of models it might be worth waiting a bit longer. Death Korps recently got a new infantry squad released as part of Kill Team and that will be for sale as a stand alone in the foreseeable future. So I would wait for that before dumping a lot of money into older stuff from the Forgeworld range.

I learned the Astra Militarum were not the best. I decided to get them as I liked the model. As it currently my force is like 70% Cadian, 20% Space marine, and like 10% Genestealer Cultist. I feel like I chose the worst armies lol. Speaking of my Cadians, I need to get them painted.

Rules come and go, so try to build and paint something you like as chasing what is competitive will never make you happy, as what is competitive one month might not be garbage next month. If you build and paint something you like, you can always play them with your friends and in friendly environments you can easily adapt if you see there is some sort of lack of balance between both sides :)

Personally I just love my Krieg!

Yeah, they’re expensive, yeah they’re not top tier,

but (IMO) they’re the best looking models in the 41st Millennium!

It’s up to you if you want to wait until the plastics finally get released.

From what I’ve seen the FW and GW sculpts are similar in proportions.

Go for it!!!

Hey if you love the army go for it. Tournament competitive lists do not matter for the vast majority of games. We get side tracked and focus on hyper competitive events as the norm sometimes. It’s not.

As others have said the faction has a lot of things going for it, a great variety of miniatures, and newly released Krieg miniatures.

Be warned though infantry and vehicle heavy armies can be expensive to buy. I’m finding this out with GSC, as well as my small imperial guard army (still potentially high model count).

And finally you have a ninth edition codex to look forward to, hopefully that will be exciting.

Welcome!

The new DKOK models from the KT set are awesome and good way to dabble vs their FW counterparts which are quite pricey. If I was to invest in DKOK now it would be for the models and I'd play them as a different regiment rules wise.

The death riders are stunning models and I've always wanted an out rider detachment of them.

Again those are expensive and also require the Imperial Armour rules too.

What about your current force? Pics, WIP thread? :D

Here's something I prepare earlier if you're uploading to B&C

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348631-posting-pictures-from-bc-gallery/

If you're posting from an external source the link will need to end in a recognised image file type eg. Png, jpeg

And you can use the bbcode [ img ]link[ /img ] (removing the spaces in the square brackets)
