Only IF list at Coventry GT

I'm going to the 3 day Coventry GT. Will post some tournament reports here when I get back next monday/tuesday.

Went with Space Marines because its 8 games and I can play them while tired. The lists are up and I'm the only marine player using the IF supplement and of course my semi-highlander army is wildly off meta with not a Vanguard Veteran or dreadnought in sight. I've also only used the army once at the start of 9th but ran infantry BT at my last two tournaments so I shouldn't be completely off in secondary choice.

I'd be a real leg up against all the -1 damage vehicles that seem to be the meta if I still got +1 damage on those heavy bolt rifles but oh well. Wouldn't have dropped my eliminators if they still got the +1 damage either. Should still be able to down a few dreadnoughts and shouldn't have to fight admech more than once unless I make the mistake of winning the first two games. No idea if Architect of War will do anything but had to bring it to find out.

Still expecting to somehow go 3/8 and will be very happy with anything above that.

Thanks for sharing CS. This is an interesting list and looks very different to the one I use. What's yours plan around secondaries? How do you see the list synergising?

How have you found the Judiciar with fists? I think my main worry would be there are quite a few assasinate points there and how best to stop that.

I've only used the Judiciar with BT and he was useful. Its not a list based on experiance from this edition as the 9th ed codex wasn't even out the last time I took this army to a 9th ed tournament, its a list that punched above its weight in 8th with some 9th ed stuff added. He's there because he's a good thing for 9th ed lists and I wanted to cover the bases.

I'm used to have 13 points for my enemy to assassinate and don't think having 15 is going to matter that much. If they can get through to the Apothecary and Ancient I'm on the back foot already.

I've got a lot of stuff to infiltrate and deep strike for Retrieve Octarius Data and Engage on All Fronts but I tend to just play around with secondaries to be honest and look at my opponent's list and the mission. Oath of Moment is great but doesn't work in every situation.

I can always do To the Last which would be the Infiltrators, Eradicators and Inceptors. I can use Guerilla Tactics to put a combat squad of Infiltrators off board until turn 5 and keep the inceptors off board until turn 3. But that's only if I don't think I'm going to win and just want to maximise tournament points.

Short story is I did a little worse and a little better than 3/8 in that I went 2/8 with three close losses (between 8-4 points).

First game against SoB melee list I was just figuring things out and only got 46 against 93. I killed Morgan Vall, the Zephyrm and Repentia while the Sacrosancts hung back and got all the points. He placed 91st and dropped the last game. I went first and had nothing to shoot turn 1.

Second game I played a Iron Hands successor minotaurs list abusing character dreadnoughts and spamming Vanguard Veterans because he drew his first game. I scored 0 primary all game but killed most of the Vanguard ending 26 vs 97. Again went first and had nothing to shoot turn 1. He ended up placing 7th.

Third game I lost to House Krast Knights 72 to 91 and ended up that player's only win. They placed 164th. My eradicators failed to do more than 6 damage to a knight over the whole game, I only managed to kill 1 big knight in melee and would have done it a lot earlier had it not been slowed down by failing an early charge.

Round 4 I beat a cool converted Chaos Knight list 87/66. Killed everything but one of the big knights, did most of the damage in melee with the Eradicators only getting a few hits through ion shields and rolling low.

Round 5 I beat Space wolf successors with born heroes and whirlwind of rage 96/45. He only had 3 units of 5 vanguard and I managed to kill them pretty early.

Round 6 I lost 79/71 against Primaris Dark Angels. I went second for the first time. He would have lost the game from a 10 point swing on a 4+ die roll on a morale test for one of his obsec units that was giving him a powerful secondary objective along with 5 primary. Failing to raise a banner on a home objective thanks to a first turn charge from a bike squad  that I just couldn't kill due to not having enough units in the area also hurt my points a lot. I did beat his Bladeguard but failed to do more than tickle his dreadnoughts. Having access to extra secondary choices one him the game. I kind of waisted my infiltrators this game.

Round 7 I lost 65/61 against Ultramarine successors with whirlwind of rage and master artisans. He may have been the only other Marine player with no vehicles. I went second for once but couldn't remove his banners from objectives fast enough and the terrain set up let him claim points out of LoS and massively favoured his more melee based army build. I killed all but 3 of his models though with my 6 strong Inceptor unit tearing his gravis armoured units to shreds.

Last game against Deathwing mixed with guard I lost 83/80, would have drawn if a single infantry squad hadn't passed their morale on a 1 and claimed Direct assault. Killed all the deathwing but 1 bladeguard and all but 1 infantry unit but failed to kill either tank commander or the artillery hiding at the back.

Three players with my first name placed worse due to dropping but I ended up 154th

Changing my list for the Leicester GT. Ditching the Heavy Intercessors for an Outrider squad, taking a risk by swapping the Infiltrators for Incursors as that frees up just enough points for an Eliminator squad.

Thinking about maybe taking some Assault Intercessors for the next one but I don't want to lose all the backline shooting even if the terrain makes that almost useless.
