2K New Core Crons List

The new balancing update has me wanting to bring my Necrons out of edition retirement to see if the new buff to core units will really change that much. It goes without saying that Necrons still have a long list of problems and shortcomings in their dex, but now at least Necron HQs feel more viable in a lot of respects. The following list is intended to lean into some of the synergies new core units bring us but I don't claim it as a meta competitive list in any way.

2K Custom Dynasty

+3" to range of all non pistol guns

-1 Toughness to all non vehicles in 1"

Command Barge: hand of the phaeron, enduring will, voidreaper, gauss cannon

Illuminator Sezeras

Technomancer: Canoptek Control Node, implacable conqueror, hyper material ablator

X5 Immortals: gauss

X5 Immortals: gauss

X5 Immortals: Tesla

C Spyder: particle beamers

C Spyder: particle beamers

C Spyder

Cryptothralls

X3 Skorpeth

X3 Skorpeth

X5 Scarabs

X5 Wraiths: claws

Tomb Sentinel

3 Lokust Destroyers: X1 heavy gauss

3 Lokust Destroyers: X1 heavy gauss

3 Lokust Destroyers: X1 heavy gauss

Plenty of high value high damage targets for my will be done, resurrection, and illuminator buffs. Nothing but the swarm and Technomancer under T4 to blunt the effect of small arms fire and a good mix of melee and shooting as a take all comers list. Let me know what you think.

I had a game with this list yesterday vs a friend who wanted to bring his Drukkari back out after the points change. He was pretty rusty on Drukkari and the point changes had hit his list hard enough he had to cut his voidraven bomber out so he was feeling the crunch.

He called the game after my second turn because he had had a pretty poor turn 1 and by the end of my second turn I had killed 2 ravagers, 2 raiders, 2 venoms, and two of his coven HQ. It was mostly an issue of some early game missteps and being very rusty with the army so I'm not going to ring the bell and say Necrons are meta-setting with their core buff now.

Being able to give My Will Be Done to destroyers and Skorpeth was a big bonus but not terribly game changing. I did res a destroyer and I can see they are the biggest winner of this core change. The Skorpeth and Canoptek were too far forward to ever catch a res because Technomancers are waaaay to squishy to leave the back line.

I would say many of the units still cost to much for how they perform. Command protocols are still laughably bad and mostly irrelevant. Dynasty traits still are weak compared to the bonuses of other dexes.

The biggest hidden winner of the CORE buff is our HQs. With more important units benefiting from HQ abilities and auras, our HQ slot feels like there are a lot more good choices and many of them feel like they are worth their points or are even value adds to a list.
