Hi,
So, considering the schedule for the first phase of the project Kelborn has put up, thought it might be a good idea to compartmentalize discussion around the different factions and the planet.

This thread is for discussing the Astra Militarum and Inquisitorial presence on the world (I figured I'd lump them together as there'll probably be less discussion surrounding them and we don't want to have toooo many threads in the Liber :P)

So yeah, put forward any regimental homeworld ideas, heroic guardsman kill teams, and dastardly inquisitors that might wish to take part.

  • I love the look of Vostroyan firstborns, and think they deserve more screen time.
  • While I think the Ordo Xenos is an obvious choice of inquisitor taking part, is it not too obvious? As there was a lot of discussion around the Dia de los Muertos necron cultists, perhaps an Ordo Hereticus is sent to investigate first, before the Imperium is able to discover necron involvement (by which time it's too late for the Ordo Xenos to send their own representative). Further, if we do create an Adeptus Mechanicus bio-transferance cult, the Ordo Machinum might be alerted to weird happenings on their home Forge World/Ark Mechanicum/Explorator Fleet?

I've voted for "Other minor Ordos" because "No Inquisition presence" wasn't an option.

I've also voted for DIY faction (which I did in all the polls) because I think it's baffling when the same few regiments/dynasties/Mechanicories or whatever the real word is for AdMech forces /Chapters show up in every conflict the galaxy has.

Also since this is, you know, the DIY faction forum. tongue.png

Gotta show my support for my fellow homebrewers thumbsup.gif laugh.png

Good point for the "no inq" - I've added the option to the poll :)

This is indeed the homebrew section, but homebrew needn't mean only faction homebrews ;) (imo at least) also, to me, there are so many regiments from any given world (for the larger imperial guard recruitment worlds at the very least), that it's entirely feasible to see them dispersed all over the galaxy - still, I agree with your point to a large extent, especially with space marines and their chaotic brethren

I just don't want it to become canon forces all the way.

This was the first poll I replied to, so I was worried they'd all be the same. laugh.png

Also I don't think we've had a group-developed Imperial Guard force before - there's got to be some fun to be had there, surely.

That said, Guard being Guard, and thus the most numerous Imperial force overall, there's more scope for a mix of regiments from different places, canon or otherwise, being called in to solve a problem. happy.png

Agreed on all points I think :)

So I have a couple of ideas to present here. And when I can get to computer I can link them properly. But My Lunar Venatorii Cavalry Regiments are known to work with Inquisition and Admech and also would somewhat be disadvantaged at certain points. They are Scion grade Bikers and Buggie drivers who may help with the fight in the hives.

The Second is I have a Ordo Mechinum Inquisitor who may be too far for this particular conflict but could have one of his network of contacts and agents be apart of my regiment group’s people to be a representative without there being a full inquisitor.

My vision for the IG regiment present:

Air Cavalry - Performing Air to Sea Halo jumps sounds awesome. Equipped with the Imperial equivalent of Ekranoplans-Valkyries (Allowing them to land on water)

If people have money to burn do I think that the Solar Auxilia figures are perfect for representing underwater troops, either a native force or an water environment specialist IG regiment that sent to stop the xeno attacks

I really do not think an underwater regiment is going to work.

We see when IG or in the real world, when they are put into a new environment we tend to just adapt the vehicles. Vietnam Air Cavalry being a prime example. Water offers similar challenges to fight in as space does. I think that is why I would understand Space Marines arriving later (Needed for such a task).

A lot of the vital targets (so far) would be on the surface.

Have we actually decided on vital targets? Maybe the Imperials expect a main attack on the hive/s but instead the necrons only send toke force that way and their main force somewhere else

Nope, I personally think these need locking until the world is better written.

I still like the idea of my Cavalry regiment come from being bikers and buggies to jet skis and motor boats is a nice transition with Chimeras and what not already Amphibious.

A stormtrooper regiment like that would be cool

That is what they are for intents and purposes.

215th Lunar Venatorii Light Cavalry Regiment

The Light Cavalry Regiments of the Lunar Venatorii as analogous to some other world's Rapid Reconnaissance Regiments. The Mechanized Cavalry Scouts Battalions with permission from the Techpriests of Mjorn use Tauros and other rapid vehicles like the Venatorii class Combat bike to perform rapid reconnaissance for regiment with a Rider Battalion. Mounted on Scout Bikes, Scout Quads, and Tauros Rapid Assault Vehicles, they rapidly transverse across the battlefield and behind enemy lines, performing hit and run attacks on enemy units and armor, while reporting back to command enemy disposition and movements. Those forces not able to be dealt with regiment themselves are reported back to command, so that allied forces may ensure their destruction. They are particularly skilled at acting as forward air controllers for allied Aeronautica forces, their presence serving to enhance the accuracy and devastating effect of close air support and bombing missions.

One of the battalion is specialists in organic mounts such as Horses and Tarakonian Wyrms. So they would act as more restricted reserve in this scenario. Further such battalions come with limited Air Support with medical and Vox warfare Valkyries.

If this is an ocean world, I think Skitarii will be more appropriate as defenders. A Skitarii legion can more easily acquire Onagers modified to fight UNDERwater as well as on land, than an Astra Militarum regiment can acquire amphibious tanks useful in both environments; a Skitarius can more easily acquire and then use augmetic gills to let him fight underwater, than a guardsman can acquire and then use scuba gear; and we all know who can get their hands on dual purpose guns (both infantry small arms, and self-propelled artillery) that can fire supercavitating projectiles to hit underwater targets, and regular projectiles to hit those outside the water.

Nothing says both can’t be happening.

Unaugmented guardsmen will probably better serve as "naval infantry"- what used to be called "marines," before the Emperor created the Astartes- aboard wet navy ships. The units will probably use different terms, e.g., organized as "frigate complement", "cruiser complement" (referring to the number of naval infantrymen assigned aboard a ship of that size), "flotilla complement," and "fleet complement" instead of "platoon," "company," "battalion," and "regiment." They will have few land vehicles, but plenty of Valkyrie shuttles and Vendetta gunships- useful for search-and-rescue (e.g., if someone falls overboard), replenishment of shipboard stores, antisubmarine warfare, and fast attack, like M2 and M3 helicopters.
