HQ conundrum

Hey guys, so I have a battle coming up against Thousand

Sons, and I’m concerned about what HQ choices to take against them. Lots of our HQZ choices are psykers, and the Sons have a really good secondary against armies with small amounts of psykers in them, can’t remember the name of it, but they score 3 points per turn if they killed more units with psykers than Their opponent.

With that in mind I’m wondering what to do as far as HQ choices. We can’t have more then one lord per detachment. So I’m a bit lost as to what I should do! It would be nice to take Abhor the witch against them also!

A counter, not a good one, but they only score if you have a psycher alive if I am correct? Is put your psycher up front to take the damage, so if they kill him they score nothing, then you CoF the unit behind him. Leaving them with either kill their 15 points turn one or let you live. So put your DP out there and see what happens, but build around him not being there.

"You can only select this objective if your opponent has one or more PSYKER units in their army. Score 3 victory points at the end of the battle round if more enemy models than friendly models were destroyed this battle round as a result of psychic powers."

In your list, not necessary on the table. They select this at the beginning of game.

Is it worth taking a second detachment? yes you are taking the hit on command points, but it would get you extra slots and get around the one lord restriction so you could take a LoC and a LoV if you wanted?

I played against thousand sons in a tournament a while ago and I did have my psykers and he did take wrath of Magnus but I still managed to win by playing the objective game. It also depends on what you are taking. For example my army has 40 poxwalkers and then it's terminators and vechicles. He has to choose to either waste MWs on poxwalkers, thus gaining him wrath of magnus points, or use his spells to target my elite units and risk being outsmited. If he's using his offensive spells on your zombies then rejoice, since your elite units will probably make him pay for it.

I say ignore it and go with your daemon prince,  typhus or plague caster and just try to dominate the board.

Thanks for the replies guy! Some good stuff here, part of me was thinking about taking 2 patrols and a LoC and LoV as my two HQs, like what was suggested, that way I can take abhor the witch also. I’ll still lean into pox walkers and terminators, I feel the poxwalker screen in even more important in this match up.

I played against Thousand suns with my GK and even with the 5+++ to mortals he still did a ton of damage with psychic powers.
