Tsons Rhinos

I had no idea the old FW front plate and doors aren't made anymore. I've got a Rhino and possible 2 more I need to assemble, and paint up, but I want to do a little more than just slap on some blue and gold / yellow and call it a day. I've not managed to find too much via google with the exception of 1 or 2 companies out there that make alternatives. But it seems like everyone uses these.

So how do you paint yours? Anything fancy?

I too ran into the same delima as years ago I used the "extra armour chaos" and "40k thousand sons doors" plus the top part of the old sisters rhino transport with the glass clear dome bit to customize mine. But like you, these cannot be found anymore.

The third party bits are fine, I avoided this in the end because I was afraid of GW's lame policy of banning models using 3rd party bits from tournaments if they spotted them. This in turn inspired me to teach myself how to 3d model and get into 3d printing. I now have a personal kit that looks pretty identical to the artwork found in the last codex with the eyeball on the front, fancy doors, bird skulls and all that. If you can, and really want to, try this route. I did the same thing with my defiler, it looks a lot less like generic chaos and spikey and way thousandson-e.

Sure do, but I admit I feel like an idiot on how to upload pictures here. Anyone got a quick guide on how to do that?

Up the top, under the Banner, click on Gallery, then to the right of screen is a red Upload button. Clicking this will allow you to create your own Gallery and upload pics. Keep in mind the limit for each individual pic is 2mb.

Once you done this, you can access your Gallery/s via your screen name at top left of screen.

A guide to uploading pics to the B&C gallery can be found here:

While a guide to hosting and posting images at B&C is here:

Hope that helps, I'm keen to see these models also!

Oh wow Ahzek, those look great. And you did the files and printed them yourself?

Indeed I did. Inspired by many reasons, but for the defiler I was always annoyed that the kit didn't include all the options for the guns(GW expects you to use the razorback for this) and so I made the twin linked las in the photo as well as a t.sons twin H.bolter.

Thinking of perhaps working on the biggest challenge yet and doing a less fleshy (and more like the old FW dread) helbrute.

I'll continue to work on mainly conversion bits and missing weapon options to fit the aesthetic. Our trouble right now is that as a new-ish army under the banner of chaos, having to barrow generic units shared by all means a weird clash in those aesthetics. T.sons are the least non-grungy-looking and least spikey of all. And so I partially cringe when I look at the mauler/forgefiend, helbrute, and heldrake and see models that don't look like they fit. But we all know why. We need SOME things to help fill out our book. We pretty much know that if GW had spend the energy and time to make more unique units for us, we probably would have lost access to units like the above much in the way death guard has. But here we are. And the thought that pesters me is how much energy should I put into converting these unit if GW ever does eventually axe access to these units when they do give us more toys. Again, like how the death guard lost the heldrake and mauler/forgefiend.

Shut up brain, get back to working on upgrade kits lol

I get that completely, but my feeling is that you can't let what might be in 3 - 5 years stop you from enjoying the army as it is today.
