Our Chapter Approved Points Changes

Yeah, the PBC going down doesn't make sense (the fact that Gladiators get the same drop is almost insulting). One poster brought up that the entropy cannons may go up so I'm waiting to see if that's the case, but I don't get it. I do wonder with DC going down in points if WG with jump packs will stay at the same price point.

As a primaris player I'm hoping outriders go down a bit, and that bladeguard & eradicators hold steady because I play against DG a lot and if it is just a straight points-drop I'm going need all the help I can get.

So far

TWC down 5 points each (hopefully extended to characters) good

Wulfen down 2 points each meh

the wulfen points cover the biker chaplain points for my list

the PBC going down just pisses me off though

I think everyone had the Biker Priest :)

Jump Guard may go up a point or two each

Wonder if our flyers will also get a 15/20 point drop?

the point drops for wulfen and TWC are really good news... Maybe their gear got some discount too... who knows...

Anyway wulfen are in a really good place with 20 points each...169 for 4xhammers /shields and the leader with claws is looking good combined with successor tactics (whirwind of rage and born heroes). They are better than bladeguard vets for me right now (1 less wound but they hit like a ton of bricks)

I'm hoping most vehicles go down some, especially with tau and Eldar on the horizon, there's looking like less and less reason to take em, especially at their current cost. Otherwise, I honestly think we are in a decent spot points wise especially with the revealed drops. I doubt wolf guard will go up. Its good but its not ripping apart the meta, dominating every tournament. But we will have to wait and see I suppose.

Most Marine tanks are DOA at the moment. The only vehicles in the game that seem viable are those that are:

  1. Cheap enough to spam
  2. OR fulfil a vital tactical niche
  3. OR have some damage reduction or Invulnerable save (likely to become irrelevant once Tau railguns hit the scene).

GW's problem is that they always seem to playtest balanced armies. They never seem to try playtesting spamming units to the gills.

They defo dont playtest forgeworld or allies or mixed detachments either

Fighters are viable but can only take 2 cos Orks/Admech

That sounds a good tactic for Wulfen. Can also do a 125 point frost claw unit with 26 attacks hitting on 2s with exploding 6s S6 AP-3 rerolling wounds, possibly worth gamble of on the hunt with inbuilt charge reroll

I do want to clarify one thing about PBC, I don't mind that they dropped them. I don't see DG as broken, so a change like that helps them stay relevant is fine. I just don't see the point of giving a crummy unit the same discount.

I really like the marine elite choice spread. For me it's the best part of 9th that we can see a fairly wide range of units in successful lists.

I think a lot of it is the how impractical 40k is to playtest in the first place. With 2 plus hour game times you just aren't going to be able to get a decent sized sample without an army of playtesters. I've been playing a 2d fighter and I was reading an article where a user compiled data from over 3.3 million games to make a matchup chart. That amount of data really allows the publisher to make informed decisions (the poster was only using PC data, and I'm sure the publisher had access more), and it shows the worst character has a 47% a win rate which is crazy (there still were lop sided matchups but typically the characters that had the best ones, tended to have some hard counters).

Its why the point changes bother me because I think GW has to respond with them more than they do, because sites like goonhammer are assembling decent sized samples. I mean even their US open series is going to provide more data than play testers could, and they should be taking advantage of that data.

So wulfen dropped 2 points and their hammer/shield loadout dropped 6 points (30pts for each hammer/shield dude and 25 points for pack leader) so in a squad of 5 with 4xhammers/shields we get 34 points discount...

Time to start my 13th company army theme :smile.: . I am definately using 2 squads of 5 now.

They are very affordable now for their statline and abilities

The Wolf Guard points catching up to Vanguard Vets really hurts, but isn't unexpected. My List went up by 60 (ouch) but my word don't Hammer and Shield Wulfen look tasty at 145 a unit?

Our TH/SS WG still have a trick others cant copy though

We can give them morkai bolts and use savage strike

Have the chapter master tap them on the shoulder for full rerolls then go absolutely annihilate whatever you touch

Wulfen are super decent now...you get +1S,+1T,+1 A, +3" move, 3 inbuilt abilities (reroll charges, fight on death and always angry :smile.: ). Also the hammer + shield is very well priced now. All those cost as much as an intercessor with a power fist per TH/SS model. They dont have jumpacks and they dont have core but missing those justify the new cost.

Also using keen senses, +1 to wound strat and the morkai bolts along with the double exploding sixes, wulfen can one shot almost anything. I am super happy with that cost.

PS: I mostly play 1000 pts games cause of time and now i can fit 2 squads of 5 along with other goodies so yay :smile.:

They got +1' move and fight twice was watered down.

Always fight angry is good though, literally and figuratively

Larger games I would say missing core is so so huge, well before this points drop anyway. Wouldnt take them to a tournament but for casual/smart casual games Im looking at 2 packs

what is +3 move and fight twice referring to?

wulfen move 8" and fight on death but cant double fight with it under current rules

did wulfen get a datasheet update?

Sorry I meant fight on death not twice and the +3" was compared to the intercessors datasheet (what you get point for point).

I always thought wulfen should be a glass cannon in order to be cheap and not an expensive tanky unit like they used to be. In a game like 40k were multi-damage weapons are becoming more and more reliable and bodies on the table matter the most, it is better to be able to field more squishy cheap units that pack a punch than expensive durable ones. Thunder wolves for example... You pay top dollar for a unit that has durability but can be one shot from a dark lance even if you roll a 1 damage on D3.
