Will we get a plastic warlord titan for 30k?

Recommended Posts

In the recent warhammer community article about the things we may have missed in the trailer, they talked lot about the new tank, banners, and other stuff. But also about the Warlord Titans. I wonder if we will get a plastic Horus, but also eventually a plastic warlord titan, maybe in HH 2.9 wave 2 or so? I imagine they would be very expensive, but much cheaper than the forge world one, and folks who have 0 desire to work with resin and bad casts might scoop up a titan or two which they could use as the center piece of a H.H force.

I think a plastic titan is relatively unlikely, but with how heavily they featured in the video and article, and all veing warlord titans, makes me wonder if maybe we might see them in plastic?

Moved to the Amicus Aedes subforum as this is more of a speculative discussion.

I would be surprised if it happened, but it’s certainly a really cool possibility. I am not an expert on production methods by any means but the amount of investment required for creating the molds might not be worth it. They’d sell some, for sure, but enough to justify the expense?

I don't see them jumping straight to the Warlord, it's possible we might one day get a Warhound as the centre piece models get larger and larger, but I can't imagine we get a plastic Warlord without either the more gameable Warhound or Reaver coming first.

Looking at some of the large plastic Gundam kits, it is certainly technically viable. It will suck up a lit of manufacturing time, so will probably be a made to order kit out once a year or something

So having built several Gunpla kits, there's also this issue:

The "big" commonly available gunpla kits (specifically, Perfect grades) are considered very expensive.... At between 150 to 300 USD on average. PGs are of comparable size to GW titans.

The issue is this: We know GW wouldn't be able to control themselves, ANY 28mm scale Titans would be twice the price of even the cheapest Perfect Grade

I’d love it, but I also don’t mind that it is currently resin only. It is a big project in itself, even plastic wouldn’t be easy! I feel like a Thunderhawk might be more achievable, perhaps, given size and shape?

Plastic Warhound could be doable if they do the blocker Lucius-pattern. The Mars would be more difficult with the curved armour plating, but with the Lucius' plating could easily be constructed out of smaller, flatter pieces that would lend themselves better to plastic moulding. Added bonus is, if they price it appropriately (£200-300 mark) they could avoid eating too much into Forgeworld's offering and keep that around as an alternative, or allow FW to make resin upgrade pieces for converting into the Mars pattern so they don't have to produce the full Titan anymore.

Warlord in the HH trailer was 100% to represent Adeptus Titanicus. I think we're much more likely to see an introduction of Epic into the AT line than we are a plastic Warlord, or even a plastic Warhound or Thunderhawk. That said, given the way GW has pivoted towards releases based on long-time fan demand, I would be shocked if we don't see some of these larger kits released within the next decade or so.

What are their biggest plastic kits at the moment? Stormsurge? Valiant/Castellan? Nagash? I guess it depends on volume vs length of foot to silly hat tip.

I sure wouldn't count on it anytime soon judging by this comparison

I'd rather count on bigger knights first

I think from a discussion on feasibility a while back, the Warhound is very dooable, the Reaver is touchy and the Warlord right out. The Hip joints wont hold the load with GW plastic so they would need some tougher plastic skeleton like the PVC pipes a lot of scratch builds use.

Overall i would definitely expect the Warhound first anyway, at least as a testbed/demo to see if the tech and sales could support them. A Warlord would be a hell of a lot of sprues and they would have to significantly outsell their resin siblings to be worthwhile!

It would be interesting to see how that would play out too, from a pricing perspective. The amount of moulds required would make the upfront costs expensive as hell, but they'd have to be careful with its price to make it feasible. £200 is unlikely, £300 is (sadly) pretty unlikely too but probably the sweetspot for keeping the price realistic, but knowing GW they'd likely try and price it higher which, I think, would seriously hamper sales volume because the only real bump they'd get from FW sales would be those that would want to buy a Titan but don't want to deal with resin, rather than people who'd like a Titan but balk at the price.

Warlord Titan for $600 USD?

I'll take it. The resin ones are $2000.

How many units do you think Bandai shifts compared to GW? I'd wager they sell more PG kits in Japan alone than imperial knights sold worldwide on a year by year basis.

Plastic warlord Titan never going to happen. Even I wouldn't buy one and I'll buy anything.
