Expanding my Fists - Primaris only

Recommended Posts

I have a small Primaris-only Imperial Fists army (a friend of mine wanted me to play something that wasn't fast and aggressive for a change). It's all Primaris, and mostly push-fit stuff from Dark Imperium and Shadowspear, plus a few extras:

Repulsor Executioner

Impulsor

ETB Redemptor
Invictor

Chaplain

Apothecary

I'm thinking of expanding it but I'm not sure where to go next - my pile of shame includes most of the Indomitus models (except the Outriders, they've gone to my Blood Angels) and an unbuilt Gladiator, but I'm not sure any of them are particularly useful in an Imperial Fists army.

Any suggestions for building on what I've already got? Thanks!

You could probably do with some more infantry. Assault Intercessors are Troops but don't strike me as particularly IF. Some Intercessor or Heavy Intercessors might be good and Infiltrators are a great Troop choice IMHO. Never leave the Phalanx without a squad. Aggressors seem very fluffy to me.

I do have 20 Intercessors, all ETB or from the old starter sets, plus 10 Infiltrators from Shadowspear.

What's the best Heavy Intercessor loadout for the Fists? Maximum shots?

I'm not sure I have enough anti-tank, I only have 10 Hellblasters and 3 Suppressors. I do have 3 Eradicators in my pile of shame, which might help?

Eradicators are definitely good for anti-tank. Dreadnoughts are another good option, either Regular/Venerable with Multimelta or Redemptor with Macro Plasma Cannon. When overcharging, it is equivalent to 3 lascannon shots which is not too shabby.

I like MM Attack bikes too but I know you want to stick to Primaris. Eliminators with Las Fusils are an option but I find them a bit anaemic for true anti-tank work.

Yes I think so. With Armour of Contempt, volume of fire is probably preferable to AP-1 and actually works better with Ignore Cover and Exploding 6s.

Plus if you find you need a bit extra speed (say to reach and Objective), then the ability to Advance and still shoot is handy.

That's how I've built the five I've got in my Deathwatch army and they seem to work OK... any advantage to using the Executor version to hold a rear objective, or is the volume of bolt shots a bit too low for Imperial Fists?

My experience has been that Heavy Intercessors are a bit wasted on the backfield. Their extra durability is more useful contesting the midfield. If your opponent manages to get serious melee units or firepower to bare on your backfield units then the extra durability probably won't be enough to save them. Against opportunistic pot-shots, regular PA Marines are normally tough enough, particular in cover with AoC. Bolt Sniper Eliminators are good as backfield campers although I accept they lack ObjSec.

What about the stormsoeeder, with bs2+? It can move and fire at no penalty, and also due to it's speed it can likely get good target turn 1. And that way, your super doctrine also is in affect.

I would go for the gladiator valiant, because the ETB redemptor already has a Gatling Cannon. You could consider tor garadon or, for less points a techmarine. Both help boost your bigger gun platforms. Also, with the CP changes, Tor feels like he is getting free relics and a neat special rule!
