D'koi Vs. Salamanders

His army:

2 Rhinos

Predator Annihilator

2 Tac Squads with Plas/Melta combo

2 Tac Squads with Missile Launcher/Plas combo

Dev squad with 2 Plasma Cannons/2 Las Cannons

Commander with Mantle

Thunderhammers wherever applied

My army:

1 squad of 4 bikes

Biker Lord

3 6x Storm Claw squads

10x Wulfen

5x Wulfen

Rune Priest

Long Fangs w/ Meltas

SETUP: (I've been making LOTS of mistakes lately... Mistake for this game: Splitting forces. Put a squad of Storm Claws on the far right, actually putting them out of the game for nearly four turns.) A Storm Claw was set up on each part of the board; Left, middle, right. Wulfen were in the middle, Bikes were in the middle. Lord was on the right.

TURN ONE: Sallies

Everything he had shot through the ruins that I was holed up behind, giving me a 4+ cover total. One Wulfen squad bit it hard, while the other was reduced to two men. Storm Claws, for the most part, were unmolested.

TURN ONE: D'koi

Everything moved up, Wulfen falling just short of assault. Lord Turboboosts behind some forests, while the bikes themselves hit a tac squad. Gated Long Fangs blow up both Rhinos that had moved, pinning both squads down. Lord and Bikes slam into the squad, dealing only five wounds total betweel Lord and Lightning Claws, leaving two Thunderhammers in contact. (One thunderhammer should have been removed [2" rule] but I didn't pursue it.) Regardless, eight Thunderhammer hits will level almost anything, and even my luck didn't stop the thunderhammer from auto-splatting my Wolf Lord. Bike squad dies.

TURN TWO: Sallies

One of the Tac squads with his many, many thunderhammers moves up to attack one of my Storm Claw squads. My Leftmost Storm Claw squad is peppered with weaponry, killing off three of the six, two of which by AP 3 or better weaponry. The Wulfen are destroyed by two squads worth of fire. Long Fangs are killed off, leaving my Rune Priest quite bare in the middle of enemy lines. The assault against my Storm Claws went unnaturally well; he rolled six Ones or Twos to hit, and the one that DID hit failed to wound. Needless to say, Storm Claws are quite mean back to them; All but two in the squad are killed. The opponent runs away.

TURN TWO: D'koi

Everything continues to move up, not quite getting to assault range on the running squad due to difficult terrain. Leftmost Storm Claws continue to move up, getting within 12 of the opponent's devastator squad. My rightmost Storm Claws continue to slog up their side of the board. They're hiding behind a forest; 7" from the squad inside of it . Hehe.

TURN THREE: Sallies

More shooting sees my Leftmost Storm Claws down to one man; the Terminator. The Terminator that has, on his own, won me five different games. The Terminator that has faced down a full turn of ALL A TAU'S FIRE and survived. The Terminator that took twelve Lascannon shots to the face without blinking (or dying). The Terminator that, before he was a Terminator, blew up two Land Raiders and killed an enemy Commander and his four-man Terminator Retinue ON HIS OWN within three turns, and still live to tell the tale. I gave it some thought, and realized that I was going to win th is game. The Middle Storm Claw squad dies terribly. The rightmost takes two casualties. Rune Priest is assaulted, and despite killing five Marines, is thunderhammered to death.

TURN THREE: D'koi

The lone Terminator passes his Man Alone. He rolls a 6 for difficult terrain to get to the Devastators. He rolls another 6 for an assault, needing at least a 5. The Rightmost Squad of Storm Claws assaulted the five-man Tac that had been hassling them. The Storm Claws killed off the squad. The Terminator hacked up four of the ten-man Dev squad. (At this point, I have three men on the board. He has around thirty six.)

TURN FOUR: Sallies

Sallies assaults my Storm Claw squad with a ten-man Tac squad. However, he didn't do it well enough to get his T-hammer into base; Therefore, my three-powerfist squad killed off seven of the enemy while taking only on wound in return. Lightning Claw finished off the Dev squad, consolidating 6 inches towards the next squad (now within 11 inches; a 5 wouldn't get me there, and leave me in front of buttloads of fire.)

TURN FOUR: D'koi

Storm Claws end up biting it, but take all but the Sergeant (with his cloak and invuln save) with them.

Pack Leader Hoare looked around him, finding that he was the only glimmer of metalic power armor amidst a field of green; The Warband was decimated. In the far distance, he witnessed a pack of Storm Claws being slaughtered, despite fighting back and bringing most of the enemy with them. They were buried under a pile of repeated thunder hammer attacks.

This must not be allowed to pass; These green-armored intruders would feel the wrath of the Wulfen.

Hoare roared and charged towards the nearest squad of green-armored warriors, lightning claws clicking into place and crackling with power. His armored bulk slammed into the warriors, his claws tearing chunk after chunk, limb after dismembered limb from the limp bodies of the surprised enemy. As soon, however, as the battle had started, the enemy was in a mad stampede away from him. Left out in the open, Hoare looked to one side, spying another squad of the accursed lizard-marines. Roaring defiantly, he raced towards them.

Sergeant Volta of the Salamanders chapter had witnessed the devastation of his brother marines at the hand of the monster that was the 13th Company Pack Leader. Calmly, as he had been trained to do all his life, he spoke to his squad.

"Target him, pick your shots carefully. In the name of Vulcan, strike that foul beast down."

Hoare's ceramite-plated feet pounded the ground, his body straining to make the Terminator armor move even faster than it already was. The rage of the Wulfen was upon him. As he was almost upon the enemy, he finally noticed the prodigious amounts of weaponry pointed at him; he barely registerred the threat.

Volta dropped the thunderhammer that he had raised into the air. Bolter fire filled the air, the whine of a meltagun piercing the dynn. Rising above all, however, was the sound of an exploding plasma gun; Looking over his shoulder, Volta saw the melted remains of one of his battle brethren. Waste.

Looking back at the beast, Volta was satisfied when he saw nothing but smoke and chips of ceramite where the Wulfen had previously been. The roaring had stopped, the insane roaring of an insane beast. His men were eerily quiet, and Volta quickly risked a glance towards his men.

They were dead. There was nothing bigger in the giant field of slaughter bigger than his fist; everything in the Salamanders squad was simply gone. Volta looked around himself quickly, turning around in place, trying to spot the infernal beast that had wrecked his squad.

A piercing howl split the air like a melta torpedo. It seemed to come from everywhere... Volta's heightened senses couldn't place the source, despite the fact that it was so loud, it could have been right next to him. Volta raised his thunderhammer, ready to strike... The howl continued, unending, it seemed. Volta slowly backed away, the howl finally cutting off, but echoing through the mountainous area, following Volta all the way back to the withdraw point.

Hoare grinned widely, fangs glinting in the dim light. Cutting his revere short, however, the high-pitched sound of a melta weapon discharging brought him back to the situation at hand; he felt the hair atop his head singe slightly as the shot whizzed over his head. With a click and a loud hiss, the discharge of a plasma pistol carried by what appeared to be a sergeant washed back over the man, scorching his armor. Tossing the weapon aside, the sergeant dropped into a battle position, extending his hand, palm up, and curling his fingers. Hoare was all too happy to oblige.

Hoare barreled towards the enemy, lightning claws extending yet again, soaked in the blood of the enemy. The meltagunner raised his weapon to strike at the terminator, but the attack never came; the soldier's head hit the ground long before his body crumpled. With that minor distraction out of the way, Hoare looked to the sergeant. The thunderhammer was raised... The meltagunner had cost too much time. Thinking with nothing but pure survival in his mind, Hoare charged into the Salamander, underneath the swing angle of the thunderhammer. Hoare's bulk knocked the sergeant down, and with superhuman speed, the sergeant was pinned beneath the Terminator armor.

Lightning Claws flashed.

Blood arced high into the air.

The mountains resounded with the howl of victory.

Total Running tally of the final few moments of the game:

Sallies: 36 Losses

D'koi: 2 Losses

Again, my lone Termie has won me another game, and again, is the only thing left alive on the board.

You know, with all of this defiance of odds Decoy, one day your dice are going to explode due to extreme temperatures, a shard will fly into each eye and blind you completely, while you're simultaneously struck by lightning, shot by a stray bullet from a distant war, and abducted by aliens. Don't worry though, you'll survive to tell your story. ^_^

He'll also get bitten by a shark (which had just won the lottery) and survive an airplane crash after flying in space ^_^

On the upside Decoy, hindsight is 20/20. To get better at the game, you have to lose, so look at it as a needed evil :P

Of course, DC. You learn and you grow better.

This was the ninth time that I had drawn with this guy ( I consider this a draw, of course, because he put up a hell of a fight.) Neither of us had beaten the other, so for the last game of the night, I asked him for a rematch.

If you'd like to know who won the tenth game between us, and therefore gaining the win, just give me a nod, and I'll write it up.
