D'koi vs. Salamanders

Decoy

Recommended Posts

This was to be the final determinant. Nine games, nine draws later, and we were matched evenly almost every time. The last game had come down to one terminator wiping 25+ models off the board on his own. This would be the final conflict.

Same lists as the first Salamanders game.

Setup went slightly different. Learning from my last game, I had my entire force set in a bulk in the middle, with Bikes taking the right flank, and that being the only variation. He was lined up in a sort of phalanx, with two squads in the rhinos, the Predator in the middle, and to the left, two five-man squads. To the of the Pred, a Dev squad.

TURN ONE:

He unleashes hell, killing off two Wulfen with all his combined shooting (thank you, 4+ cover save!) The only moving he had done was a disembark from his Rhinos and speeding them off to either side. Later, he revealed that he was merely attempting a bluff should I get first turn. What sort of bluff, I don't know.

TURN ONE: D'koi

Rune Priest gates in front of the Pred but scatters back, so that only two Meltas can even hit it. However, it was enough to immobolize the vehicle, in addition to breaking off the TLLC. Wolfen rage a full 12" both, while my Bikes sweep up the right flank, crashing into a tac squad there, my Lord turboboosting directly in front of his Devastators squad; Now, having just seen what my Lord can do on his own, my opponent was faced with a difficult decision. Shoot at the 2+ invuln Lord, or shoot at the rest of my stuff. In order to effectively shoot at the rest of my stuff, my opponent required the use of his Dev squads.

At any rate, the Storm Claw bikers destroyed most of his tac squad, and thanks to my careful assault, avoided the doom of a powerfist striking back, at the expense of only being able to kill five guys.

TURN TWO: Sallies

After one of his Rhino squads moves foreward, the shooting begins. Ten bolt pistols into the weakened Wulfen squad resulted in only one dying to Bolter fire, but another dying to Plasma Pistol fire. The third died to a Melta. There's only so much you can do. Two Plasma Cannons fire at my turboboosted lord, from the Dev squad. Two 2+ saves. Sixteen Bolter shots from the same ten-man Dev squad. Eleven 2+ saves. Two Lascannons from the same Dev squad. Two more 2+ saves. Two Lascannon shots from the Predator. Two 2+ saves. Two missile launchers, 16 Bolter shots, and four Plasma Gun shots later, T'lash the Wulfen Lord had lost one wound, to a plasma gun. (Yes, we kept track, for all you cynics. :P ) MORE fire into T'lash saw another 15 2+ saves. What's this total? 2+11+2+2+2+13+3= 35 2+ Invulns out of 36. Oh yeah, baby. Can't hurt what's movin' too fast to see. Bikes on the flank take out all but two of the Tac Squad, with one of them being on the Cloaked sergeant. (Deja Vu, anyone?) They all died in return to eight Thunder Hammer attacks.

TURN TWO: D'koi

T'lash slammed into the Plasmagunners, while my Rune Priest disengaged from his squad and moved to assault the missile squad to the left of the Pred, while four Wulfen hit the enemy lines containing a chaplain. Rune Priest demolished his enemies, the Wulfen dragging two basic marines down in return for being thunderhammered to death. My massacre was a pitiful 1, and he was consolidated in to by the Wulfen-assaulted squad. My Lord, however, didn't do as badly. Seven of the tac squad lay dead with nothing in return; however, there was a Sergeant with a thunderhammer, something I don't like, sneaking up behind me. He'd have to be dealt with...

TURN THREE: Sallies

Not much for shooting. Rune Priest failed miserably to wound the Commander of the sallies, and was thunderhammered for his trouble. The Sergeant attacked my Wolf Lord, but you don't assault a Wolf Lord when he's got the initiative on you. He died very quickly. The squad smacked on T'lash's armor a bit, failing to get past the ancient ceramite.

TURN THREE: D'koi

Storm Claws moved up towards the squad that had killed the Rune Priest, assaulting eagerly, whereas the squad led by Hoare similarly smashed into another such squad. Much death all around; I lost about five Storm Claws in the entire rounds of assault, in return for eighteen Sallies. My other squad of Wulfen, however, decided to have some fun! They ran up and clawed at the sides of the Predator, claw claw clawing, and blew off another Lascannon, and ensured that it couldn't shoot the next turn around.

What a difference a little bit of placement makes!

Running with a cluster of army instead of a dispersed army is incredibly powerful. Everything hits at once, and there's total target saturation.

In the end of this game, I ended up losing both Wulfen squads, my Bikes, and roughly seven to eight Storm Claws. He lost everything.

Finally, managed to whomp this guy. Took me long enough... ^_^

Good job Decoy! I've been eagerly reading your bat reps and have to confess I'm learning!

Your point about your army hitting all at once makes a lot of sense to me. I'll be looking for a way to do that in some cover for my next game.

I also stole your Wolf Lord on a Bike idea in my last game against Biel-Tan Eldar. He was the MVP of the game for me :P and was awfully tough to wound (but I don't think he made 35 out of 36 armour saves!). While the Eldar was busy trying to fend off two packs of wolves, he got his heart ripped out by the Lord, Storm Claw bikers and Rune Priest.

Thanks again for the bat rep. They're really useful to me!

No problem, Mike. There'll probably be some more up by the end of the day, as today is my other major game day; potentially four to five more batreps coming, depending on who shows up. Two or three if only the kiddies show up (I don't post kiddy reports, or even count them in my final score tally.)

And yes, Ragnarok. Runic plus Bike. Expensive as sin. Had to give up the Belt on him in order to do it, but worth it in the long run.

Wolves have an equivilant to a Salamander mantle/Daemonic Rune?

I put D.rune on my bike D.Prince, similar stories but with feel no pain, I had a further NECRON save added as a bonus to anything str of a plasma and below.

That is mean, very mean, and it has won me many games throwing 3 packs of daemons in their face every time. They know if he dont die, those things come in next turn from his base. Teleport Homer as well, hehe.

Albeit I like your battle report, where was your army posted? I would like to show some troubled SW players a working list. My chaotic tactics dont seem to be doing well for them I'm afraid.

Keep up the good work, perhaps I'll post the next game between myself and a SW player on this thread.

Mutt, of all my eccentricities, one of which is that I don't post my list for anyone, anywhere, in public. If someone wants to have a list, fine, but I won't post it here. Check the old post, originated by Spyrer, entitled "13th Company Armies". There, y ou'll find a rough overview of my armylist, but it is by no means static.

yeah nice report. Gah, If only I could get a game at my local club, but, alas, settlers  .

Alternitevly Mutt-man!, you could direct them to this forum, much better then just a list, coz you've got to learn how to use it properly. (Eg-Deployment :P )

Why does no one post battle reports of their losse? And why does decoy roll like god? I wouldn't enjoy playing against you if you rolled like that.

+EDIT+

Out of curiosity, how many points were you playing and how much did you win buy?

Wolf, I post my losses just as often as I post my wins. I just very rarely lose. Search back for a while; Night Lords, Eldar, and Nids are my most recent losses. However, they are only something like... 3 of my 6 losses. I also drew recently; Last Salamanders report was a draw, even though I wiped everything he had from the board (GO HOARE!)

I think we were playing 1850 or 1500... Not entirely sure. And as for points, I ended up winning by... 280+280+144+60 odd... Between 600 and 700 points, roughly.

I roll like god because the Dice Gods have blessed me. Nothing more to say about that than that. My armor saves are ungodly, and my regular opponents don't even bother to watch me roll saves any more.

You only won because of that stupid biker lord. He should have died 3 times over.

Get your hairy wolf butt over here and play me again so you can write up a loss for a change.

Yeah, that's right. Make a nice 2,000 list for me to chew on.

Yeah, Sallie and I have a long-standing grudge match, namely since no one can really seem to win. Sure, someone comes out ahead by a couple models, but very rarely is there an outright win. This was just luck of the draw, as he fired everything at my Biker Lord.

And the D'koi back down from NO challenge. It's on like a chicken bomb. (I have about as much clue about that last statement as any of you.)

Firstly, I'm on hiatus for Batreps for a while, which bugs me, because I really wanted to write up that Brian one. However, the only reason you managed to eke out a win, my Sallie friend, is because I set up assuming that I'd get cover from that mazework of walls, et cetera. Do you really think that I'd pack everything as tight as I did if I didn't think I was going to get a save? The only thing that made that game for you was that devastator squad, which you put in the 8" high tower thing, with only one entry way, that was facing you, meaning at the very best, from the base of the terrain, it would have taken three turns to get to them. On flat ground, you never would have stood a chance.

The major fault to that game was assuming I got cover from that stuff. Hell, if I knew I wasn't getting cover, I would have put my wulfen IN the cover instead of behind it, and not nearly overlapping on bases to stay behind said cover.

You still pussed out of a rematch, though.

This Friday. Just bring it. ;)

confused: you were behind terrain and he didnt give you a save?

or

you were behind marine size terrain, not in it, and he was ontop of a building which means he could legally see over it?

if the former, thats not cool

if the latter, your a tool

(sorry it rhymed)

when are you guys going to post the bat rep?

I was a tool. ;) I just figured they could... ya know... duck, instead of standing straight up. But yeah, models can't move like that, can they? Hehe.

Honestly, Beav, I'm on indefinate self-imposed Batrep exile. As cool as the graveyard shift is, it's really hard to spend much time other than sleeping in your spare time, and when I AM up, batreps are not the first thing on my mind.

I'll let Midget handle this batrep, if he'd like. After all, it was his win, and history is written by the victors. But with this win, we're still managing a 1/1/9 record against each other; I think that the two of us are just too closely matched.

Why are you on hiatus for batreps? Anyway, I would like to see a betrep of this to. Also I know how you feel about rivals! My Necron friend and I usually play games and it end up in a draw most times. :( It's actually quite fun. :P

Anyway, good luck to the both of you. But in the end we know that the Space Wolves will have to win.....

;)

What I'd like to point out, however, is that despite the smack talk, despite the either outright slaughter or one-man-win games, either way, Midget and I have a deep respect for each other's armies, and I think it's a pretty sound statement that between he and I, there's no other pair of armies, except perhaps two Eldar armies, that would stand a chance in a teams battle.

Quite simply, we're about as evenly matched as they come. It's all in how you play the game. I made the (repeated) mistake of splitting my forces again, and it's quite obvious how I paid for it, although I'd also place the blame on me thinking that I got cover from a highly elevated position, and moving accordingly (2 full and 6 partials under one Blast, all my bikes base-to-base, et cetera.)

All in all, stupidly played by me, wonderfully played by him.

If you stop by, Jeff, will you be available to play tomorrow?

EDIT: Uh... Hehe. Today. Graveyard shifts are tricky when calculating what day it is.

Good battle report, enjoyed reading it. Hurry and get another battle report up soon!

Also, i know what you mean by the way you and the sallies seem evenly matched- its the same with my shooty blood ravens and my friends close combat marines- almost every battle between them is a draw!
