Yes, it is. A pet project to gradually incorporate more sculpting into my work. Paintjob I'm very fond of, but because it's painted with zenithal lighting and the colors aren't as saturated, it's easy to think he wasn't hilighted or that he lacks hilights. His belly plate is my favorite feature, and I'm quite proud of that right hand, entirely sculpted (so is the weapon).

You guys give it a try and paint using a completely different style and see how comfortable you are

Truly excellent advice - It really does make a lot of difference and opens up new ways of approaching things - (only try doing it on a single mini... not an entire army.... :tu:)

I too think that the metals look rather bland compared to the rest of the minis. Maybe it's just the pics like you said but still.

Mhm .. I agree. Also, why DIDN'T you use NMM?! I figured once a person learned that amazing technique, they never went back. I feel like if you had used NMM the judge would have had no choice but to award you gold, hoist you up to the heavens, and lavish you with praise as only the Chosen one can be.

But that's just me.

NMM is not the only way to paint. Look at the Paris GD thread, most of the European stuff use Metalic. Its more of a western way of thinking that NMM is the be all and end all of painting tequniques. It is merely another tool. It has its uses, and there are times it should not be done. Personally, I think NMM looks a bit funny of races like orks and Imperial guard. Sure, the painting may still be excellent, but it doesnt always suit them. To do Metalics well is just as hard, if not harder than doing NMM.

NMM is simply a tool, not the only way to paint.

Highly unlikely. Mostly because I always paint with gaming purpose in mind. That is a big handicap (limiting basing options for instance) and I just don't expect to play grey knights anytime soon. Squads also take a lot of time, and I enjoy the conversion aspects of the hobby most, grey knights aren't suited to this very well being metal. And it is too much work to make identical additionnal features on a whole squad.

I see your point. Now you point it out, its pretty much how I paint my models. If Im not going to game with it, its usually going to sit on the side lines. Even if I do game with it, its more likly to get some colour if Ive done some sort of conversion work.

But now Im determined my next army is going to be some converted Grey Knights, although I wont be using NMM on them (way above me that one).

Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Beutiful models. I like the helmets but that may be my love of comicstyle of painting.

As a side note, what happened to your nurgle ideas. Still kicking around to impress us or at the bottom of the bin as a failed experiment? Would really like to know as the titan you made looked nice.

Congratulations on the statue. I like the shark theme. It could work with a whole army. And the faces on the purple areas look good too. I like the black with the grey highlights as well.

What I don't like is the colour scheme. I don't know why exactly. I think it's because I have seen one or two slaneesh armies that had the silver/purple/black theme and these were not that nice, so it could be just a defensive mechanism. I like the indiviual colours but together they don't work for me. And it doesn't help that I really don't like the metal frames that Games Workshop's chaos marines have around all possible armour plates.

The individual parts look nice and good but I think that the squad's composition is not as good as your gold winners from the other events. And you wanting the squad to still be playable/useful leaves less room for diorama style coverting for squads. So ^_^

I could write more but I think that would be my antipathy for that colour scheme and style combo speaking. I like the shark idea and it could make a very characterful and nice slaneesh army but I just don't like (the new) slaneesh marines (fantasy is another story) that much and can't stand the black, purple, and silver combo.

WOW ur models are great, Youre a master with GS and a brush. Do you have like before pics of the project?

Its very impressive to see what you have used. Some things i recognise but some stuff... the sword, did you make it yourself or did u get it from some specialist range?

Love the shoulder pads and the weapons. great heads too ^_^

By the way my Deathguard has been completed since last November... The vehicules have a neat effect and I like how my DP turned out, but it's all metallics and basic troopers are drybrushed, so nothing out of this wortld.

The swords were made with LEman russ hull plastic plates, but plasticard would do just as well I'm sure.

ANd clearly, making only one of these would have given a higher result than 6 identical ones. But I wanted a custom squad with metallics experimenting, and in that respect I think I succeed admirably. I understand to each their color preferences, I for one love the gothic feel they have in real life, on these pictures it does not show.

I don't have much to add about the miniatures, they look great!

What I'd like to see is a group shot of the whole squad, maybe from alittle further away. The metallics doesn't come out very good in the closeups. Second, you stated these ones where some 30% bigger then those serving the Emperor, would you mind some shots next to such a model for comparison?

Lastly, I admire your courage to try something new and learn new techniques. We all know your skill with NMM, it's nice to see that you try real metallics allso. They are equally hard if not harder to paint then NMM if you're going for 'golden demon' standard.

Keep upp the good work, a bronze shouldn't be that discouraging =)

I am sure those "that know" can appreciate just how georgeous these minis must look "in the flesh" so to speak.

The only place i get to see mini's of this calibre is on the web, and nephelim is right i can only guess at how much the constraints of photography is detracting from your work. As you seemed to be hesitant to post these pics i would like to say a big thank you for doing so. And if these pics arent showing the models in a good light then i think my eyes would dissolve or something if i saw the real minis! :D

I also cant imagine the effort that must have went into painting some thing of this standard especially as you are exploring different methods.

Are you a saint? you have got to have the patients of one. ;)

I think i would die a happy bloke if i could achieve 1/2 of the ability i can see in the pics.

Very nice man. The purple is perfect and I particularlylike the screaming faces in the armor. My only advice is don't let Magmatrax see or he'll have your head.

First Khorne.

Then Nurgle and Slaanesh.

I'm getting the feeling that there needs to be a BIG BAD

undivided Chaos Lord to help tie everything together..... :)

Just as photography doesn't truly capture the overall

essence and greatness, words won't truly convey my

overall amazement.....

Great Job !!!

As many have already said - truly INSPIRATIONAL !!
