Yet another dred conversion

Recommended Posts

Although not as cool as the spinning assault cannon job that has been shown in the past. (that was a great conversion) I have just added LEDs to light the twin-linked lascannons and some blue leds to light the eye slit with a bit of a twist.

I smoothed out some of the plastic along the sides of the sarcoughagus above the wires and cables. this will allow the light to spill out along the sides of the front.

the dred is a chaos conversion. I have it assembled and will post a pic or two when it's complete.

Inside shot (painted it chainmail to help the glow effect.

close ups of the side cuts, the purple will be the final colour of the armour plates with some chainmail trim.

please ignore the wires. they will be tucked in when i can locate smaller coin batteries or use a 12 volt fob battery. the LED hanging out is a blinking LED. makes it easier to make a blinking circuit.

well the prices following are in Can currency:

Digikey, Electrosconic, and mouser are good sources. (all .com s i think)

Superbrights:

blue LEDs are anywhere between $1.50 and $3.50

green LEDs are about $1.50

the blinking LED is somewhere around $2.00

the batteries are 3V lithium coin batts and about 2.50 a pop.

you can also get surface mount LEDs, they cost a bit more.

a 100 foot roll of wire wrap wire (extremely thin solid core wire. its worth getting the tool for the wire stripper) will run you 2.50 ish ( $5-10 for the tool)

add in a soldering station, some flux, and a bit of solder and away you go.

i do suggest getting a breadboard and try out your circuit first.

have fun. any electronics issues, pm me i can help. (the diploma says so :o)

will be working it over the next few weeks and will post more pics as i go.
