I used the Winter Assault as base for my Chaplain:

Now I present my Chaplain:

My question is how do I recieve a simillar effect with gold and metal? I've never seen anything like it before.

Cheers

What really scares me about this model is the apparent lack of planning when sticking it together.

Remove the mould lines, please.

And, in all honesty, mentioning that you'd like a model to inspire fear, and then building a model which is kneeling and pointing simply doesn't do it for me.

If he were kneeling over a fallen foe, maybe, but still, he'd be kneeling. Try something with a standing pose, or something more dynamic. If he must be poised over a fallen foe, have him standing over it.

I don't see the connection to the DoW model =( Sorry Maybe it's just the pictures. Try to take pictures before you prime or after you paint. Black primer eats light and hides detail.

Hmm, I couldn't remove the mold lines from the arm but I'll try again. Is there anything I could to him in his current pose to make him stand out more? Also I might just edit the post if I completely failed to achieve a Winter-assault styled Chaplain

EDIT: And sorry the my Chaplain dissapointed so bad

EDIT 2: I might just drop the whole fear idea and just go for a chappy that looks like the Wintassault version since IMO like the kneeling position

I think it's the start of an interesting conversion.

If you're willing to go through some extra work, it might be an interesting idea to give him a scenic base, and then reposition the legs using wire and GS to make it look like he just leapt down from a higher point, and is pointing to a foe he's preparing to charge.

Try to actually model your pose yourseld - bend down in his position and se what is and isn't viable for the pose - I think that could be a very good pose for a chaplain, but only in some sort of conext - maybe he is administering last rites to a fallen brethren who is about to be killed by an apothecary as an act of mercy?

And yeah, remove the mould lines, that's always easier on a model before ou start conversion work..

A few more srolls, seals, chains etc would help add character. You can use the fol from say a tomato paste tube and stick it on as parchment, and use thin strips with a blob of greenstuff to act as the purity seals if you have no plastic or resin seals spare. There are some great bits omn the marine command sprues as well which you could use, such as the little shrine whoch you could stick to the backpack.

Hmm I'll change him into a more commanding look; like he is directing men into a charge over a fallen brother

EDIT:

Update:

I added more purity seals and cut away more mold lines I found. I didn't add a shrine to his back because it didn't seem to look right anyways; also I adjusted his Croz a bit more upwards so it looks more inspirational

I hope it's a improvement

I think it looks good! With the new base you've created a small diorama which is cool, just don't overdo it, simply glueing stuff to the base doesn't really work (been there, done that). It's an unusual pose for a chaplain, but IMO rather effective.

The adjusted crozius looks better. I also like the way you've painted the skull helmet, very menacing.

The metallics effects you mentioned can be emulated by painting the metallics on (perhaps starting with a base coat of tin bitz, then mixing tin bitz and boltgun, then adding mithril to the mix on two or three steps)and then carefully painting several layers of thinned inks over them (I would start with a 10:1 ratio of water:ink). Browns, greens, purples and blue can be used, you might want to stay away from adding black though, as it can kill the colour (unless you want a duller, more shadowy look of course).
