I must say im impressed at how many colours you have on the mini and yet it dosen't look busy!!

I agree ith the purity seals comment though, only a small thing but these small things could be the difference . . .

Cheers,

Aye, I only noticed the purity seals on the Crozius after I had painted them (and at that point I really didn't feel like hacking the handle up. Some tweaks. I think the Crux Terminatus might require a few more glazes. I'm still not liking how it's looking (in terms of the transitions of the blends).

I've also included closeups of the mural and of the skulls on the base.

Is it just me, or is the base a bit 'happy' compared to the mini? Well, apart from the skulls which I think look a bit out of place (contrasting?) compared to the mushroom..

Great Mini anyways, and that cloak is awesome

DV8,

I haven't really been around much lately and I only noticed this thread yesterday. I've read all of it with great interest. I think you have a splendid model here, the conversions are subtle but effective, and the paintjob is really really nice.

The purple works very well with the deep yellow, that's a perfect colour wheel example if I ever saw one. The yellow shoulderpad is awesome and the little gems are extremely well done.

The freehand on the cloak is amazing! The original artwork was very cool and you've done a great job transferring it to the model.

(Actually, this is the first termie chaplain I've seen so far that I liked, the model is usually quite static but you've created a nice sense of movement with the cape and censer. ;))

The base lets the model down, however. I'm afraid it can cost you your demon. It's just too plain compared to the model. The skulls are arranged rather than naturally part of the image itself, where did they come from?? The grass is too obviously just glued on out-of-the-box static grass. Chronophague suggested that you ink and drybrush it, I agree 100%. Also, some larger rocks and perhps battle debris could help make the base look less plain.

Here's an example of painted static grass, IMHO it looks better:

You could also consider sinking the model into the big base, rather than placing a small base on top of a bigger one.

Good luck! ^_^

Chaplain Desmodus. How did you go about painting the grass? What inks did you use and what colors? If I could get it looking like that, I'd definitely paint it, but my little experiment didn't turn out that great.

you should find out if bases matter ive heard they only judge the model itself(although ive never been/entered or anything involving a gamesday/golden daemon yet)

however i do agree the painted grass would look better, green just doesnt suit the deathy look of a chaplain or for that matter his little cartoon friend the reaper

i think the brazen censors need mroe character, they are kinda looking flat in comparison to the rest of the model

if i didnt like that cartoon reaper so much id have to say the best part of the mini is the parchment writing, they look perfect, now i just need to figure out how you did the writing so well

im not sure if i like the yellow crozius much, mostly because the right side of the model is so exciting with all this detail and the left side is like oh...hi how ya doin

i think you may of been able to balance things out a bit better with more detailed stuff on the left side

but hey im picky :)

Starks

Even if the base does not matter at all by the rules, judges are humans and easily affected by the apperance of it, even if they won't to :D

All in all it's perfectly executed and a well thought of mini. Most have been said so I'll just add one little note. The handle of the crozius seems to be a too big bright part. Try to minimize the yellow by adding black or darkpurple ornaments on it. (If I doubted that you're able to do so, I wouldn't have suggested it :( )

The cape is great, a bit too cartoony for my taste, but my taste does not count at all.

Can't wait for more.
