Aerion the Faithful Posted April 22, 2006 Share Posted April 22, 2006 Salutations, brothers... Here i am (yet AGAIN! :P) bringing you the last Primarch i did while the B&C was down. I was asked a lot to do a Traitor, but i still couldn't figure out wich one. Mortarion sounded good, and there were also Perurabo, Magnus the Red and... well; the list goes on, you can imagine. I was luckily struck by the sudden idea of trying to do an illustration that represented how Chaos lured the Primarchs into it; how it whispered at them. And this is how Fulgrim came to be in this image. The daemonettes whispering at him, and his expression are something i was really pleased with, and i hope you enjoy it too. I would have to agree with Tubal, the bare stomatch is a little bit of a let down. Remember Sanguinius used to fight naked and I don't see why fulgrim couldn't do the same. This was my last Primarch piece for a while, because i was kind of 'overloaded' with them and had to do something else for a change. However, i'm back at it, and soon there will come another of te Emperor's finest... And now, to some answers... is that watercolour, or markers? It's actually a blend of the two. But lately i'm leaning more towards full marker work, because i believe it gives me a better finish. Although i'll always keep the watercolours for the backgrounds, because they make for a nice contrast with the markers. Is it digital or hand coloured? It's all hand-work, mate. I actually have had the 'faces' discussion a thousand times, and what i can say in my defence is that: Faces are one of the most important items of the human figure. If you 'lose' them in rendering, they won't come across to the viewer. The more simple the face, the more people will relate to its expression and mood. Brilliant job, Aerion! My only suggestion is to try to vary the faces of the primarchs as Fulgrim and Sanguinius's faces appear almost identical in your illustrations. Against regular damage maybe, but I would hardly call the damage inflicted by choppas or power weapons regular. I think the primarchs would all have been armored from head to toe. I'm really sorry that you think that about the work done on 'Clone Wars', because to me that was amazing and very inspiring. Actually this is a question of taste: some may like it and some may hate it. And that's pretty much what happens with any form of art, music, sculpture, etc. But i thank you for your honesty and the fact that you could see past the thing you didn't like and still be able to compliment me on the technique. I plan on doing all of the Primarchs, so Vulkan may not be far ahead ;). About the armour, well, i felt that since the Emperor's Children (in their final chaosyfied state) had a lot of 'gaps' showing skin in their armours, their Primarch (whom they followed devotedly and without question) may have had something to do with that. I believe that the Cahpters tried to somewhat emulate their Leaders not only in their mindset, but also in the way they ornamented their armour. Thanks again to everyone!
