Space Wolf Venerable Dreadnought

Here's my version of Bjorn: Olaf of the Emerald Claw. I finally painted him up in my new, darker SW scheme. See what you think.

Nicely done, but you really should make the final step and black line the whole model (meaning paint a thin line of watered down black ink in all armour recesses and joints).

This will give more dept the the armour sections and help to improve the partly too thick paing job. You may try to water down your paints more next time...

But nice work overall dude!

Cheers!

the paint is thick yes but oh well. i think the decals need work. most people dont know how to do decals properly but thats ok. what you need to do is put gloss varnish on the areas you want to decal. after you apply the decal and it is dry use mark setter. use very little at a time going from the center out in a circular motion... basically it melts the decal right on to the model and you cant tell its a decal. after thats all done spray it with your flat sealer and your done.

Olaf will get a base just as soon as I can find one...

I know I'm kind of sloppy, I'm working on it. I also know don't thin my paints enough-it's a bit scary for me to get into that and I'm gradually working on doing it. I'm always afraid I won't get the right balance of water and etc.

You really think I need to blackline it? I don't really see any armour creases that aren't black...

Thanks for the help, guys.

rather than blackline - use a very thinned down wash of some dark grey - or blue and black mixed, and apply along the lines. Add a tiny drop of washing up liquid to prevent the ink from pooling (breaks the surface tension)...

Wash the areas around the small cut-outs in the armour - around teh rivets, just around the indidvidual plates e.g the claws on teh feet, and teh ammo box could do a bit more definition - use a 25/25/50 % mix of black ink, blue ink and distilled water and again a tiny dot of washing up liquid

Btw, you should ink the metals you have, it would do a lot to the overall look of the dread, if the metals didn't look so much like metallic paint. Just mix some black and brown with water, till it's quite thin, then just paint it over the metallic areas.

Cheers

Thick paint is my nemisis as well Alcyon Just keep working it. Remember it is better to err on having the paint to thin and doing additional layers v/s too thick. This is one of your best minis tho(from what I've seen). I definitley see some improvement.
