Introducing The Jackal!

The idea was to create a better sentinel, and in doing so try some things I've been meaning to experminet with, one being fully articulating joints! This guy is fully magnetic and poseable like a action figure. I drew a lot of inspiration from the FW Titan Warhound, somehwat making a mini Warhound: hence the name Jackal!

After I simplified the Sentinel Legs and magnetized them I built a base from both Sentinel and Dreadnought Exhausts. It didn't look like much at that point and sat on my desk for months while I worked on other things. The Feet were what really transformed this piece and got me going. With a little cutting and pinning I converted them to look like Warhound Toes, which IMO totally contributes to the look and feel of the model!

After a little diggin through my bitxboxes, I found the perfect piece to make the shoulders, from the Dreadnought Sarcopagus- cut in half and pinned together. Then once I determined the height I searched for pieces to use and found a spare IG Dozer Assembly and cut them up as needed, utilizing two bitz to make comumns to support the shoulders. The back was made from the other piece to the Sentinel IIRC and I cut up a spare landspeeder to use the seat.

Then I fashioned supports out of paperclips to hold the shoulders up while I deatiled the space in between. Lt Varras donated his torso, perfect since I'd already removed the legs and arms for some other reason. I gave him some arms and positioned him to be the pilot. I wanted to have some sort of 'Umie in there to give it more Machina and less Robot.

The arms/shoulders just fit perfectly in the space! also the pin used to hold them up also secured the Dozer Blade Supports to the chassis or the base of the model. 1/4" ball bearings were drilled into the arm joints to allow articulating Weapons.

The Front piece is the bottom piece of a Dreadnought Torso, The "Waist" being a perfect neck, and the "Crotch" transformed into a head!!! Rather nice look if I do say so myslef, and again here the head was modeled to mimic the look of the Warhound Titan. After making the head the Jackal seemed like a fitting name. The neck was also given a ball bearing and two points of contact, to keep it straight up.

Here he is Kneeling:

Jogging:

and Direct Shot Head On: (still without weapons)

I'm detailing the inside of the removable front plate, right now there's afolding stock and some controls and I've finsihed most of the pilot even gave him a knife on his belt. Please bear with me, as this project might take at leat another week to complete. Seeing as my weekend is booked.

I'm still thkning about all sorts of arm combinations such as a lascannon and missile launcher on each arm, to count as a dread with 2x Las & MLS... I like the look of the PlasmaCannons alot although that is nowhere near legal in game terms.

Thanks!

I've added Dreadnought Leg Guards to the Legs to bukl them up a bit, still undecided on the knees but the arms have been worked out, at least the lascannon/missile launcher ones. Building them out of Shortened Lascannons and HK Missiles.. I haven't even thought of the CCW/AssaultCannon combo yet.. and while I was working on some other projects, I slipped and sliced through my fingernail! :P OUCH!

I'm not sure if I like the head much at all anymore, it was fun to build and I like the way it moves, but... I think I'll keep the plate but remove the whole neck and head and replace it with something definetively Marine! Any Suggestions?

I do think it would look cool with missiles on its shoulders, though that make it too Mechwarrior, so everything is going into the arms. And since the legs are magnetic, I'm making tracks for it sorta like Johnny 5 :)

Why not go the "tiger Raja" route and plasticard a head, or else use a head from a Zord or a Transformer model. The head just needs some work, not a massive amount though. Some sloping plates around strategic parts of the body would be good as well.

niiiiice, hopefully your counting this as a dread, instead of a sentinel

VDR? :P

you might want to consider making the weapons swappable.

using the vehicle design rules, you can actually add some custom flavour to it:

2 long barreled multilasers and a Twin-linked heavy2 missile launcher?

though that might be a tad light :)

Nice one!

While the head looks cool and looks alot like the warhound one, I don't think it suits this one.

On the titan, the head is the cockpit(sp?), but on this model I can't really see the point of having a "head". Sure, cameras and searhlights might be good to install in a "head" to allow them to look around but then again it would be better if they could move separately.

Since the driver is inside the machine (as in a real dreadnought) why not try to replicate the sarcophagus(sp?) look? Should be possible to do by removing the head and adding plasticard on the front plate.

Ohh, and please make an AC/DCCW combo! A suitable big DCCW that is...

Other then that, I really like the look of the model. Keep it upp!

I think if the upper part of a SM or IG torso was added onto the Pilot, it could be used as both a Sentinel and a Dreadnought.

With the front plate on, Dreadnought.

Without front plate, Sentinel.

On the top you could embed a few small rare earth magnets in (I'm guessing you're using those anyway), then you can place removeable search lights and smoke launchers on the top. Either that or some Cyclone missile launchers from a Terminator squad. A truely mech feel!

In place of the head, you could just use a bog standard sarcophagus on the front. Boring but effective and definately a Marine way of doing it.

Love the model, looks very dynamic!

Lol - great minds think alike there ^_^

Actually, if you look at the Knight Paladin - it uses a head that looks a lot like a space marine head - if you could get an =][= scale marine helmet, you could use this as the "helmet" and put a cowl round it, like the Venerable dread...

This isn't nearly as large as a Knight, much taller than a normal Dread though... and I found a solution to the Dread Head issue: I re-worked the head to have a stronger Dreanought image. Many people suggested leaving the cockpit open like so:

Problem was he could easily be shot dead! maybe the next one I could build a giant glass (blister plastic) plate to protect him... but I didn't much like the idea of exposing him.. so I cut out the "neck" hole

Which was a good idea but doesn't look that cool.. so I found the perfect solution and a way to distinguish him as a Dreadnought, yet still have the removeable plate to see the guy (instead of a corpse) inside there!

Needs some work here and there.. but I like it! Still a Dread but not as Stompy! Looks like he can actually stride forwards instead of a fat mans waddle...

More later-

Just an Idea.. But dosent the newish Sister of battle tank (Imolator I think) have that neat looking glass sheild between the guns? I think that would look kick butt with this set up below.

I'm building a Adeptus mechanics army, i'm useing the Lost and damned/allied Iron warriors rulebooks for them al la dave taylor. It's designed to be a support force for my titans. I was at a total loss on what to build for my sentinals, and then i saw this. If it's allright with you, may i steal your desgin for the glory of the omnissiah? In addition, may i request more pics please? ones from the side and the back as well, please? i do hope you'll take this as flattery ^_^

That was going to be my suggestion.

Has a good overtone as well.

I absolutely LOVE the jogging pose. looks great. I'm not sure about that head. one part of me likes it, one part thinks it a bit too much cliche. I think you should try out something else. I dunno, a little box or something, that's is fixed to the torso, ooooor just a little head that is more just a few goggle visor thingies, like the sight thing on top of the land raider lascannons. if you get it. :P
