New Samurai Marine ++kill team++ WIP

Also he would 'technicly' be a ronin, as Samurai were dishonored by using two blades at once. ((Could be explained as the katana opens armour, and the wakazashi finishes it.

eh? wut?

anyhow :D thats one awesome mini :D have you decided on his head yet?

@Demoulius: Typically, Samurai will never use two blades at once. They may carry many, but only use one at a time. A ronin is like a rogue samurai, who has been dishonored somehow and thus has no objections to using two blades.

I hate to disagree with you, but that is not necesarily true. The samurai practiced all sorts of variations and subspecializations of Kenjutsu.

While I agree, for the most part, you will only see a samurai using one sword (more specifically the longer one, Katana) I wouldnt say that any samurai using two Katana would be ronin....as a side note, I havnt quite decided whether or not the second sword will stay as a katana :P

ok, now I want you guys to help me...I can leave the pose as is, or I can do what I initially planned.

what I have in mind is to add, the big japanese Kimono sleaves and pantlegs to the model...overall the model would look something like this...

(I put my 3 year old to work again...quality sucks...so hard to find good help these days :P )

I think it could add some really good dimention and samurai flavor to the model...but I'm afraid of covering up my (in my not so humble opinion) great GS work. (this pose, and the amount of GS sculpting is a first for me). What do you guys think. In the drawing I'm going for kind of a samurai, desperado/clint eastwood kind of feel.

good first model...the sword is a little thick and cus im a perfectionist on small details like that, it would drive me nuts....anyway the second one seems like a good design...i would try and cover up that wrist though...looks like he can extend his wrist at odd angels....i think if you just did a hat for the guy it may convay enough of the samuri look but putting a robe on him might help too...but i think it would be a little of a problem for you to do something with him like that....if you want a robe you might want to look at the Dark Angels sargents...they got some cool robes

more progress...once the GS dries, I still have to put more folds one the Kimono, but otherwise the lowerhalf of the body is done.

++EDIT++ I forgot to put in the pictures

ok, I've fixed the wrist and added some folds to the pants as well as a head...I think there are too many folds in the pants, so some will probably get filed off once dry. what do you guys think?

I agree that the hat should be a little wider, as in flatter, not taller.

I think you should angle the left hand up just a little more. It does not look like a powerful or comfortable way to hold a weapon of any kind. Or maybe you could try to rotate the hand so that the sword is in front of the model.

This kill team is coming along very nicely. I really like the various conversions and effort that you are putting into this.

Excellent work.

yeah the hat needs to come out further. i dunno why people complain of the wrist it looks fine to me. also people are getting to hung up on correct names for the parts of clothing, not everyone has gone into study the names of japanese clothes. just as someone was confused when the word ronin was used.

the pants look fine...maybe a little too much folds but i think it would be nice to just alter that wrist a little...either bring it up a little more or even try inverting the hand so it looks like he is pointing it to the ground...or basicly in a stance....thats close to a stance i would use with 2 swords...anyway i think the hat also could lower a little bit...but its all good

You could always shave down a shield from the fantasy plastics line to make for a better hat. I remember seeing it on some Chaos Marine lord conversion in white dwarf a while back. Good looking stuff. Keep up the good work.

I made the hat bigger, and added some cloth to the sleeves, its supposed to simulate, being tucked in under the elbow and forarm pads...
